Time and again, people from other parts of the country find out that I am from Nashville and say, "Oh, I've heard that's a great place to live." My answer is, sure it is if you are a member of the right church. A nice way of saying that it's a great place to live if you are white, Christian, republican, straight, and have money. A friend of mine has a mother in law who is a big shot member of the local Republican party in Williamson County where all the rich white country-club Christians live; when he he told her that he was going to vote for Obama, she furiously asked him, "Why do you live here?" She didn't mean her house, he didn't live with her. She meant a 'nice' part of Tennessee.
