Sam Smith and the Oscar Gaffe heard around the World

Last night, Sam Smith won an Oscar for the his song that James Bond movie. In his acceptance speech, he said:
"I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen, and he said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar. If this is the case—even if it isn't the case—I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world."
Um, okay, Sam... However, you wasn't the first. There was Melissa Etheridge, Elton John, Stephen Sondheim. And that's just in the same catagory. Classical composer John Corigliano, songwriter Howard Ashman, Sir John Gielgud... Bill Condon won for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1999, Alan Ball won Best Original Screenplay for American Beauty, and Pedro Almodóvar won Best Original Screenplay for Talk To Her. And then, Dustin Lance Black who won for Milk and even talked about being gay in his speech.

So, no, Sam's not the first. It was a simple mistake... A mistake riddled in privilege and twinkism, but hey. I didn't expect Sam to be a wealth of LGBT knowledge, but if you have a chance to win an Oscar, you should be better prepared. And he wasn't, not only for that, but the backlash. Sam was dragged for that statement. He came off like a true gay millennial, only aware of the now. Then Dustin sent out this tweet.

Wow! Anywho, it was a mistake, a gaffe that I hope Sam learned from. He's young, so he will be forgiven. However, he needs to brush up on his LGBT history if he's going to play the spokesperson.

Jeff Sessions endorses Trump

Here's so early morning mess.

Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential bid yesterday. Is it a surprise? Maybe to Ted Cruz, who talked about the circle jerk he had with Sessions during the 2013 Immigration bill.

Jeff believes Trump can fix the immigration issue and tax agreements. It's the dumbest reason to support Trump, since he has NO PLAN for either. Jeff is nothing to brag about in the GOP. Yes, he's one of the Old Ones, but he's nothing to cheer about. This endorsement will be another one of his failures in his crappy political career.

From NY Daily News

Marco Rubio came for Donald Trump and Slayed

Last night in the GOP Debate, Marco Rubio came out swinging, knock Donald Trump out for the count.

Check out some highlights from the debate

Hillary Clinton addresses the SUPER-PREDATORS statement

About 20 years ago, Hillary Clinton called young Black males, "super-predators". This term was used due to a discussion about the 1994 Violent Crime Control Act. To quote her exact statement, Hillary said:
"They are not just gangs of kids anymore. They are often the kinds of kids that are called 'superpredators.' No conscience, no empathy. We can talk about why they ended up that way, but first we have to bring them to heel."
Fast forward to this week, when Hillary was confronted by an activist named Ashley Williams.

After that confrontation, Hillary finally addressed the issue. She stated:
In that speech, I was talking about the impact violent crime and vicious drug cartels were having on communities across the country and the particular danger they posed to children and families. Looking back, I shouldn’t have used those words, and I wouldn’t use them today.

My life's work has been about lifting up children and young people who've been let down by the system or by society. Kids who never got the chance they deserved. And unfortunately today, there are way too many of those kids, especially in African-American communities. We haven't done right by them. We need to. We need to end the school to prison pipeline and replace it with a cradle-to-college pipeline.

As an advocate, as First Lady, as Senator, I was a champion for children. And my campaign for president is about breaking down the barriers that stand in the way of all kids, so every one of them can live up to their God-given potential.
Okay, I think I'm good with this. Now Let's move on.

Uh Oh, A Man contracts HIV while on PrEP

Well PrEP may not be as safe as we thought.

There's a case of a man contracting HIV while using the drug. Scientists did say this was possible, it was never completely, completely safe. However, cases like this one will remain pretty rare.

Here is so more info
David Knox, MD, an HIV specialist at the Maple Leaf Medical Clinic and the lead author of the case study, presented findings at the 2016 Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI) in Boston. Evidence suggests that the individual in question, a 43-year-old man who has sex with men, adhered well to PrEP over the long-term. Nevertheless, after 24 months on Truvada he tested positive for HIV. Initial tests indicated that he was acutely (very recently) infected: He tested positive for the p24 antigen, which appears within about three weeks of HIV infection and disappears a few weeks afterward; and at that time he tested negative for HIV antibodies, which typically appear two to eight weeks after infection
Go here for more on this issue, and if you're on PrEP, please play safe reguardless

Check Out the First Episode of GAYCATION from VICE

Hi all,

So I want to show y'all this new series from VICE called GAYCATION.

The show follows actress Ellen Page and Ian Daniel as they explore LGBTQ cultures from all around the world.
Here's the first episode and the premise:
In the first episode of the series, Ellen and Ian head to Japan, where same-sex marriage is still not legal and same-sex couples often bear a social stigma. However, certain cities have begun to recognize same-sex partnerships and the LGBTQ community continues to thrive in the country's vibrant culture and nightlife. Ellen and Ian find out what it's really like to identify as LGBTQ in Japan and meet some of the people struggling to find their voice in a country that refuses to give them equal rights under the law.

Interesting Quote: Harry Reid

“I think the middle class would be better served by Hillary. I think that my work with her over the years has been something that I have looked upon with awe. She was the first lady. She started the trend toward looking to do something about health care. She understood the issue well, she was the front on the health care during that administration. I also think she’s the woman to be the first president of the United states that’s a female.”

Is the White House looking at Brian Sandoval for SCOTUS?

Rumors in the street says Brian Sandoval is being considered for SCOTUS. Brian is a Republican governor of Nevada. He's a kind of a centralist who is pretty fair on most issues. And he's loved by Republicans.

He could be the ideal choice, because what can the GOP say about him? He's too cute? Well, he is kinda cute, but in all he's rumored to be one of the nominees.

First Look at Elektra from Daredevil season 2

But he isn't alone, Elektra makes her debut in the season too. The Greek assassin is coming to kill and steal Matt Murdock's heart and I can't wait!

Here is a first look at Elektra, she's played by Elodie Yung... SO EXCITED!

Interesting Quote: President Obama

First and foremost, the person I appoint will be eminently qualified. He or she will have an independent mind, rigorous intellect, impeccable credentials, and a record of excellence and integrity. I’m looking for a mastery of the law, with an ability to hone in on the key issues before the Court, and provide clear answers to complex legal questions.
Second, the person I appoint will be someone who recognizes the limits of the judiciary’s role; who understands that a judge’s job is to interpret the law, not make the law. I seek judges who approach decisions without any particular ideology or agenda, but rather a commitment to impartial justice, a respect for precedent, and a determination to faithfully apply the law to the facts at hand.

The White House will screen Black LGBT Documentary

As a part of Black History Month, the White House will screen the documentary "Holler If You Hear Me: Black and Gay in the Church"

The engaging doc is written and directed by Clay Cane. He created this doc to continue the conversations about being Black and Gay in our community.

Holler If You Hear Me explores the issues besetting our Blackness, sexuality and our religious backgrounds. To see and hear the struggles these Black LGBT people reminds me of the drama I experienced down in Tennessee and Kentucky. This doc really gets to the heart of matter and if you haven't seen it... Poof, watch it here

CDC Study: Black gay men in the United States have a 50% chance of getting HIV

A new study from the Centers For Disease Control got me pretty sad today. According to the results, Black gay men in the United States have a 50% chance of getting HIV. Then, there's this... all men who have sex with men face a 79-times higher risk of contracting HIV than do heterosexual men.

The CDC study was just released and it's chock full of info that will leave you with a heavy heart. While the numbers are down overall, gay men of color are still quite high. Sadly, this is the norm. It feels like we stay at high risk. I know there are so many programs and outreach events to educate our communities of color. Still, it seems like we continue to lose.

I personally hate to see any study that show us at high risk. I want to believe these numbers are wrong, but... I guess the numbers don't lie. We have to better, folks.

Protect yourself, protect yourself, protect yourself!

You have to do this in order to stay alive and healthy. Yes, we have stronger medications and prEP, but you always have to protect yourself at all cost. No dick is worth your life, guys. Please love yourself, respect your partner/trick/fu*kbuddy enough to be safe.

These number have to drop, before it's too late. Skip that, It IS too late. We have to stop being reckless! Please... I can't say this enough, protect yourself.

Gov. Pat McCrory Vows to Attack Charlotte’s LGBT Non-Discrimination Ordinance

Two days ago the Charlotte City Council voted in favor of the LGBT Non-discrimination Ordinance for Charlotte, then yesterday North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory vowed block the bill.

Pat believes this bill is "misguided" and "overreaching," and that's not all. He and his band of fools are planning to block other jurisdiction in the state with a similar policy.

He said:
“As I communicated and predicted prior to the vote, state legislative leaders have notified me about introducing legislation that would correct this misguided government regulation and ensure it will not happen in any town or city in North Carolina. I am disappointed and saddened Charlotte city government initiated overreaching regulations that change basic standards and expectations of privacy regarding restrooms and locker rooms.”
It seems the only thing that's overreaching and misguided is Pat McCrory. He believes he's protecting women and kids with this charge. Sir, you are using the same tired argument about the bathrooms and predators. There's no record or case in the state that supports this foolish action.

I need for him to sit his ass down and deal. And I need for the LGBT groups in the state to fight HARD!

Charlotte passes LGBT Non-discrimination Ordinance!

The Charlotte City Council voted for the LGBT non-discrimination ordinance in the city. It was a long, crazy and at times, funny hearing but in the end, equality won. A HALLOWEEN TV Series on the way?

Rumors are flying about Halloween, the movie Halloween, becoming a TV series

According to Fangoria, there's a series coming around the bend. The series would be a limited series event, and boxed in a 3-to-5 season commitment.

The series could reboot the original story or continue the tale.

There's a lot they could use for the series. They could focus on the survivors, the Myers family, the curse or Laurie Strode. If I was doing this, I would focus of the family who survived, trying to solve the Myers curse. There's a lot of history they could use to make this series work. I just hope they don't go the Scream TV series route. That show sucks so baddd!

But right now, it's all rumors. Nothing is set in stone, yet. However, if this idea becomes a real product, I pray they don't fu*k it up.

New Study Proves Hollywood's Whitewashed as F*ck

A new study shows no major progress in Hollywood.

The Media, Diversity and Social Change Initiative at USC gives us the receipts about the Whitewashed industry. This study looked at 10 major media companies which includes Disney, Hulu and Netflix. The results were not cute, in fact, no network or studio came out winning.

The study shows there's a huge disconnect between Hollywood and the country's racial population. As more cultures grow, the networks continue to stay behind in casting, directors, creating and producing content.

Let's look at the receipts:
In the 414 studied films and series, only a third of speaking characters were female, and only 28.3 percent were from minority groups — about 10 percent less than the makeup of the U.S. population. Characters 40 years or older skew heavily male across film and TV: 74.3 percent male to 25.7 percent female.

Just 2 percent of speaking characters were LGBT-identified. Among the 11,306 speaking characters studied, only seven were transgendered (and four were from the same series).

"When we start to step back to see this larger ecology, I think we see a picture of exclusion," said Smith. "And it doesn't match the norms of the population of the United States."

Behind the camera, the discrepancy is even greater. Directors overall were 87 percent white. Broadcast TV directors (90.4 percent white) were the least diverse.

Just 15.2 percent of directors, 28.9 percent of writers and 22.6 percent of series creators were female. In film, the gender gap is greatest: Only 3.4 percent of the films studied were directed by women, and only two directors out of the 109 were black women: Ava DuVernay ("Selma") and Amma Asante ("Belle").
There's more info and it isn't good.

If you know my blog, I've posted about this before. I thought things were changing and moving forward, but it isn't. This whitewashing crap is hurting business and killing the creative process. This is why we continue to have shitty shows, remakes and boring concepts. They keep the same folks at the table, eating the same old food, drinking the same old drink. If Hollywood get their head out of their asses, maybe things would pick up. Maybe Hollywood could return to greatness. But until then, prepare for more mess on the screen.

Interesting Quote: Michelangelo Signorile

“But with gay leaders kind of clueless about what to do, or still heady after the Supreme Court win, they’ve not organized the community. Many LGBT Americans aren’t even aware of what’s playing out. And the national media, too, appears to have blocked it out almost entirely, as these stories play under the radar. It’s not surprising then that national politicians aren’t talking about these alarming bills. They’re not getting any direction from a community that seems itself not to even notice how anti-LGBT bigots continue their crusade against equality right before our eyes.”

Mississippi House Panel moves Anti-LGBT Bill forward

The South just keeps on serving up these discrimination bills.

In Mississippi, House Speaker Philip Gunn presented a religious liberty bill that is pure Anti-LGBT legislation. It's called the “Religious Liberty Accommodations Act,” or H.B. 1523.

In this messy bill, someone/business/whatever could use religion to justify their discrimination not only to us in the LGBT community, but to unwed mothers, veterans and others. Under this bill, faith-based organizations could openly deny us of everything. Adoption, schools, homes, business regardless if the organization or business receive government funding.

H.B. 1523 would also give foster families the power to force a queer kid to conversion therapy, and deny trans people access to facilities, that matches their gender identity. Sadly, that's not all. There's more to this heinous bill.

The House Judicial Committee received H.B. 1523 due a 14-3 vote. I hope it dies, but then again... It's Mississippi.

If you're curious about what's in the bill, read it here

The Pope had something to say about Mr. Trump.

Southern Poverty Law Center reports: Hate Groups are on the Rise

I saw this coming.

Due to a Black president and civil rights issues back at the forefront, more hate groups are on the rise. America is getting more hateful.

In the latest Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) report, we now know that hate groups grew by 14% in 2015 in the U.S.

The research reveals there are 892 active hate groups in 2015. Also, anti-government patriot groups went from 874 to 998 last year as well. These groups are mostly led by uneducated White men who feels the country is falling apart. Meaning, they don't like the fact that America's becoming more open and diverse place. These groups are coming from the pits of the South and other rural areas in the country. Oh, and a good chunk of these hate group followers are Trump supporters.

However, they are not the only ones. Because of the killing of Black folks by the police, black separatist organizations are growing too. It's an interesting read and I encourage y'all to take a look at the findings.

This is interesting.

Nikki is putting her eggs in Rubio's basket. Reports are claiming that she will endorse Rubio for president. You may ask, "Does that matter?" Actually, it does.

Her endorsement was highly sought after in 2012 and seriously courted this year. Plus, Nikki has an 81% approval rating in South Carolina. So her words have power... I guess.

Marco is said to be happy about this endorsement, it could be very helpful to him over the weekend.

South Dakota: Transgender Bathroom Bill advances to Governor

This is so stupid!

South Dakota could be the first state in the country to directly discriminate against the Transgender community. The Senate just approve a law forcing transgender students to use bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond to their sex at birth. These fu*kers believe they're doing the right thing, claiming it will protect the privacy of the students. Child please, we know what this really is. It's flat out discrimination!

The bill was send up to Gov. Dennis Daugaard. While he seems to support this backwards bill, he said he will need to look at it closely before making a decision. Advocates and LGBT groups have called on the governor to veto the bill. Hopefully, he will wake up and see what this bigot bill will do to the trans teens in the state.

Please, governor, have a frakking heart!

“I hope this changes (but) I think it’s probably harder to be gay. I think sexuality is still marginalised in a way that is pretty open. I think it’s tough. I think for one’s own piece of mind, for one’s own sense of self and psychological health, I feel like that’s the horrible thing about ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and all that fucked-up shit, because it produces a sense of shame, and therefore this sense of being ‘less than’, you know? John Kasich will not go after Marriage Equality as President

On the campaign trail, Kasich was asked about Gay Marriage and repealing the law. This has become a trending topic since some of the GOP presidential candidates have vowed to overturn the decision.

Kasich is the only candidate who has said he's not touching it.
“If I see discrimination in anything, like I said earlier, I’m willing to do what I can. Whether it’s executive order or legislation. That’s fine with me. As for marriage equality – let me be clear I’m for traditional marriage but I’ve been to my first gay wedding. A friend of mine is gay and got married. I went home and said to my wife, we’ve been invited to Steve’s wedding and you know, said this is going to be unusual for us. She said, well I’m going. Are you going? And I went. And I had a great time. And there was great champagne."
When pressed on his answer, Kasich made it clear
“Well, we’re not changing any laws. We’re not changing. We’re not going to allow discrimination on this.
I have to admit, John is looking like the only leveled headed person in the GOP room.

Supreme Court Justice Loretta Lynch?

Scalia's death is causing a lot of drama over his replacement. It seems that everyone has an opinion on what President Obama should and shouldn't do. However, the SCOTUS Blog has weighed in with their suggestion... Attorney General Loretta Lynch.

The SCOTUS blog write:
“Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who is fifty-six, is a very serious possibility. She is known and admired within the administration. At some point in the process, she likely would have to recuse from her current position, but the Department of Justice could proceed to function with an acting head. Her history as a career prosecutor makes it very difficult to paint her as excessively liberal. Perhaps Lynch’s age would give the administration some hesitancy. They would prefer to have a nominee who is closer to fifty. But because the nomination would principally serve a political purpose anyway, I don’t think that would be a serious obstacle.”
I agree, she would be a great choice

Marco Rubio creates a Board to Repeal Marriage Equality

This fu*ker...

Marco Rubio has formed a Marriage & Family Advisory Board to attack Same-Sex Marriage. His plan is to repeal Obergefell.

From his website

This morning, the Marco Rubio for President campaign is excited to announce the formation of Marco Rubio’s Marriage & Family Advisory Board. Marco believes the family is the most important institution in society. He understands that in a vibrant culture of marriage and family everyone benefits, but in a culture where the importance of families is neglected all sorts of problems result. You cannot have a strong nation without strong people, and you cannot have strong people without strong values. Right and wrong. Good and bad. That is learned from your values instilled in you in the family. It is irreplaceable.

“The Supreme Court’s decisions in Windsor and Obergefell are only the most recent example of our failure as a society to understand what marriage is and why it matters,” said Eric Teetsel, the Rubio Campaign’s Director of Faith Outreach. “For decades, we have taken for granted the unique and necessary contributions of moms and dads in the lives of their children, from lax divorce laws to marriage penalties in the tax code and the failure of husbands and wives to live up to their marriage vows. Marco understands the many causes of family breakdown and the consequences. He has pulled together a board of experts who understand the same and have devoted themselves to rebuilding a vibrant culture of marriage and family.”

Rubio, girl... Have a seat.

Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa, the paper reported.

According to a report, Scalia, an associate justice, arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

The U.S. Marshal Service, the Presidio County sheriff and the FBI were involved in the investigation, the paper reported.

A federal official who asked not to be named told the paper there was no evidence of foul play and it appeared that Scalia died of natural causes.

Well... If this is true, President Obama can appoint a new judge!

Freedom Indiana demands Answers from Gov. Mike Pence

Yesterday, at a Town Hall meeting, Governor Pence was asked: Should it be legal to discriminate against LGBT Hoosiers?

He gave a poo putt answer that ticked off LGBT organization, Freedom Indiana. The created this video

They wrote on their blog
If Governor Pence thought this issue would just go away because lawmakers lacked the courage to advance LGBT protections this year, he couldn’t have been further from the truth.

Because even if he refuses to answer, Hoosiers won’t stop asking the obvious question. If the Governor truly believes, as he said today, that “no one should ever be discriminated against,” then why does he flat-out refuse to support a simple solution to add “sexual orientation, gender identity” to our state’s civil rights law.

Let’s make sure the Governor and members of the General Assembly have no doubt in their minds: We aren’t going anywhere until our state law fully protects LGBT Hoosiers.
I'm glad FI is holding Governor Pence accountable. He needs to lead and do what's best for Indiana.

Interesting Quote: Meryl Streep

“I’ve played a lot of different people from a lot of different cultures. There is a core of humanity that travels right through every culture, and after all we’re all from Africa originally. Berliners, we’re all Africans really.”
Uh... Okay

City of Cleveland sues Tamir Rice's family for ambulance ride

The City of Cleveland has sunk to a new low. They have the nerve to sue the family of Tamir Rice over Ambulance and Paramedics fees.

Seriously, folks.

The city is suing Tamir's family over $500. $450 for "advance life support" and $50 for the mileage. That's rich, considering that this "advance life support" didn't save Tamir's live!

With everything that's happened, the City of Cleveland could've waived the fees. They should not be doing this, in fact it's so disrespectful of them to be suing the family. Haven't they gone through enough?

The City of Cleveland should be ashamed of this.

Justice Department Files Lawsuit to Bring Constitutional Policing to Ferguson

Here is the Press Release
Justice Department Files Lawsuit to Bring Constitutional Policing to Ferguson, Missouri

Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch announced today that the Department of Justice filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against the city of Ferguson, Missouri, alleging a pattern or practice of law enforcement conduct that violates the First, Fourth and 14th Amendments of the Constitution and federal civil rights laws.

“Today, the Department of Justice is filing a lawsuit against the city of Ferguson, Missouri, alleging a pattern or practice of law enforcement conduct that violates the Constitution and federal civil rights laws,” said Attorney General Lynch. “The residents of Ferguson have waited nearly a year for their city to adopt an agreement that would protect their rights and keep them safe. They have waited nearly a year for their police department to accept rules that would ensure their constitutional rights and that thousands of other police departments follow every day. They have waited nearly a year for their municipal courts to commit to basic, reasonable rules and standards. But residents of Ferguson have suffered the deprivation of their constitutional rights – the rights guaranteed to all Americans – for decades. They have waited decades for justice. They should not be forced to wait any longer.”

“Our investigation found that Ferguson’s policing and municipal court practices violate the Constitution, erode trust and undermine public safety,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta, head of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division. “As shown by our lawsuit today, the Justice Department will continue to vigorously enforce the law to ensure that Ferguson implements long-overdue reforms necessary to create constitutional, effective and accountable policing. Ferguson residents and police officers deserve a law enforcement system that productively and fairly serves the entire community.”

The lawsuit, filed pursuant to Section 14141 of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VI), alleges that the city of Ferguson, through its police department and municipal court:

  • conducts stops, searches and arrests without legal justification, and uses excessive force, in violation of the Fourth Amendment;
  • interferes with the right to free expression in violation of the First Amendment;
  • prosecutes and resolves municipal charges in a manner that violates due process and equal protection guaranteed by the 14th Amendment; and
  • engages in discriminatory law enforcement conduct against African Americans in violation of the 14th Amendment and federal statutory law.

The lawsuit follows a comprehensive investigation of Ferguson’s police department and municipal court conducted by the Civil Rights Division. In March 2015, the department detailed its investigative findings in a 104-page report. The department found that Ferguson’s focus on generating revenue over public safety, together with racial bias, has a profound effect on Ferguson’s police and court practices, resulting in conduct that routinely violates the Constitution and federal civil rights laws.

The complaint alleges that from October 2012 to October 2014, African Americans were more than twice as likely to be searched, to receive a citation or to be arrested, than other stopped individuals. Of all incidents from 2010 to August 2014, African Americans account for 88 percent of all incidents in which a Ferguson police officer reported using force. For municipal offenses where Ferguson police officers have a high degree of discretion in charging, African Americans were again disproportionately represented as compared to their relative representation in Ferguson. While African Americans make up 67 percent of the Ferguson’s population, they make up 95 percent of manner of walking in roadway charges; 94 percent of failure to comply charges; 92 percent of resisting arrest charges; 92 percent of disturbing the peace charges; and 89 percent of failure to obey charges. The department also found that Ferguson’s law enforcement conduct has created a lack of trust between the police department and the community members it serves, especially African Americans.

On Feb. 9, the Ferguson City Council voted to reject the consent decree that the city’s negotiating team had negotiated. Unable to reach a mutually agreed upon court-enforceable settlement to remedy the department's findings, the lawsuit was filed today in order to seek declaratory and injunctive relief to remedy the unlawful conduct identified by the department’s investigation.

Carly Fiorina is Out of the Presidential Race

Carly Fiorina is leaving the Republican presidential race.

She said

"While I suspend my candidacy today, I will continue to travel this country and fight for those Americans who refuse to settle for the way things are and a status quo that no longer works for them."

She never had a shot, but she tried.
