I cannot hide my concern for the family, which is threatened, perhaps as never before, from within and without. Fundamental relationships are being called into question, as is the very basis of marriage and the family. I can only reiterate the importance and, above all, the richness and the beauty of family life.”source

Religious Scholars reveal the The Bible doesn't define Marriage between a Man and a Woman
Three religious scholars (Hector Avalos, Robert R. Cargill and Kenneth Atkinson) got together and discovered something wonderful.
When haters tell us that the Bible says marriage is for a man and woman, that's a lie. Well, I knew that, but anyway these scholars wrote an editorial that points out how the Bible doesn't define marriage between a man and a woman.
HuffPo reports
The joint editorial was written by Hector Avalos, Robert R. Cargill and Kenneth Atkinson and published in the Des Moines Register on Sunday. The men teach at Iowa State University, University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa, respectively.
"The debate about marriage equality often centers, however discretely, on an appeal to the Bible," the authors wrote. "Unfortunately, such appeals often reflect a lack of biblical literacy on the part of those who use that complex collection of texts as an authority to enact modern social policy."
The Bible's definition of marriage can be confusing and contradictory, noted the scholars. They stated in their column that a primary example of this is the religious book's stance on polygamy, a practice that was embraced by prominent biblical figures Abraham and David. Furthermore, Avalos, Cargill and Atkinson point out that various Bible passages mention not only traditional monogamy, but also self-induced castration and celibacy, as well as the practice of wedding rape victims to their rapists.
This info will be met with plenty of push back, but it will start a fascinating conversation.

Haunted by the Wedding Bell Blues
For some reason, I've been thinking about marriage. I don't know why it's just been on my mind. I would like to do it, but I'm afraid that I will never have the chance.
And to be honest, that fear has made me bitter at times, jealous of others who have found that happiness. I know that's petty, but I'm human and flawed as fu*k.
I wonder sometimes if I'm really ready for marriage. I was in a long-term relationship and thought I was ready, but I wasn't... not even close to it.
I know it will take a lot of work, but I think I'm still in my selfish phase? I'm trying to break into entertainment, working on different projects and still trying to figure life out. I'm so busy being my own biggest fan, I wonder if I have the time to be someone else's cheerleader?
Basically, these thoughts are fueled by getting older and looking for love... I just... I just don't want miss out and get left behind.

What the Dictionary Says about Marriage
I just found out reading several blogs and news sites. I have to say I was a little surprised about this 'change', and apparently others as well.
You know the conservatives ain't feeling it and ready to release the power Jesus Fire upon us all.
One man was so bothered by it, that he created a Youtube video to express his feelings.
So the definition is changed, but now we need to do the same with the laws. If only it was that easy, right?

Do we threaten the Freedom of Belief?

The National Review, or rather the editors claim that we (gay folks) and our gay rights threatens the freedom of belief and conscience. I was lost on this concept and no matter how many times I read this article, I still don't get it. So my response may be off, but I have to rant about this idea.
How do we threaten the freedom of belief and conscience? The article points out this piece:
Churches oppose same-sex marriage in part because it represents an implicit threat to freedom of conscience and belief. California already had one of the broadest civil-unions laws in the country. There was little in the way of government-sanctioned privileges that a state-issued marriage license would confer. But the drive for same-sex marriage is in practice about legislating moral conformity — demanding that everybody recognize homosexual relationships in the same way, regardless of their own beliefs.
But does the religious right follow the same format? They are demanding we should not have the right to marry and demanding their beliefs to be followed by all. Churches stifles the freedom of belief. If you don't believe in their practice, you go to Hell. To believe in something else than God is blasphemy. And to think outside of their Bible box means that you are a sinner or possessed. Their very existence threatens the freedom of belief and conscience if you ask me.
Because we want marriage will not change the ticking of the clock. No moral wall will fall and children will not go blind if we got Prop 8 overturned. Our wish for freedom and rights don't threaten anything. However the only thing it threatens is the foolish institution religion has been standing on for centuries.

for impersonating a heterosexual male in a heterosexual marriage to squash gay rumors.
If the law won't allow us to marry, at least arrest the ones who makes a mockery of it.

Done with Esther

He couldn't take it. Guy is finished with Medusa.
A statement e-mailed to The Associated Press from Madonna spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg says the couple has agreed to divorce, and asks the media to respect their privacy.
The statement, co-signed by Ritchie's representative, says the couple had not agreed to a settlement.
The Sun newspaper -- a British tabloid -- first reported Wednesday that the couple would announce the split imminently.

Gay Marriage will make the World Totally Gay

Dr. Trayce Hansen has some news for us. According to her, societies which endorse homosexual behavior increase the prevalence of homosexuality in those societies. The legalization of same-sex marriage—which is being considered by voters in several U.S. states—is the ultimate in societal endorsement and will result in more individuals living a homosexual lifestyle.
Extensive research from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, and the United States reveals that homosexuality is primarily environmentally induced. Specifically, social and/or family factors, as well as permissive environments which affirm homosexuality, play major environmental roles in the development of homosexual behavior.
Interesting stuff, Miss Trayce.

iProtect Marriage Mess

These images are from the new webmess, iProtect. Their goal is to educate young folks about gay marriage in hopes to stop it. They even have facts to help spread their cause.- For centuries, marriage as a legal, civil and religious institution between a man and a woman has protected children and society in every country and culture.
- In March 7, 2000, 61% of California voters passed Proposition 22 — to keep marriage between a man and a woman.
- On Aug. 8, 2008, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control reported that 53% of new HIV infections in 2006 occurred in gay or bisexual men. More infections occurred among young people under 30 (aged 13–29) than any other age group (34%, or 19,200). African Americans, while comprising 13% of the US population, accounted for 45% of the new HIV infections in 2006.
- On May 8, 2008, a black administrator was fired from the University of Toledo, Ohio, for objecting to the comparison of black discrimination to same-sex marriage.
Marrying a same-sex lover isn't a civil right.
Prop. 8 isn't out to remove rights. In America, we all have the "right" to have a relationship. But what about the legal right to marry?
- For centuries, civil marriage protected society and children by making marriage a legal institution between a man and a woman.
- On March 7, 2000, 61% of California voters passed Prop. 22 — to keep marriage between a man and a woman.
- On May 15, 2008, four judges overturned the will of voters and said same-sex marriage was a "right."
The question is, why stop there? If gays have a right to get married, then how can they say a man doesn't have the right to marry his daughter, or a minor, or three women?
The same-sex marriage movement has more to do with validation and social respect than legal rights. But the cost to the rest of society is far too much to pay.

W.A.S.T.I.N.G.M.O.N.E.Y do you know what that means?

All of these useless family groups, Mormons, and religious zealots are really getting on my nerves with the Prop 8 malarkey.
According to a few articles: Focus on the Family, a Colorado Springs group headed by James Dobson, has given more than $400,000 to the Prop. 8 campaign. The American Family Association, out of Tupelo, Miss., has contributed $500,000. The Knights of Columbus, a national Catholic men's organization headquartered in New Haven, Conn., has put $250,000 into the campaign.
And there are other groups as well, raising over 5 million dollars to stop us from marrying. But on the treal, they are wasting money.
These groups are wasting money on this battle. Instead of putting money towards a losing battle, they should use that money to...(drum roll) HELP FRAKING PEOPLE!
There are people staving, homeless, the hurricanes just hit a couple states, the economy has belly flopped and these jokes on a rope are trying to stop gay marriage! Hey folks, that's not Godly, that foolish and almost vindictive. I ask these groups to do 2 things.
- Read the Bible, remember what Jesus did, who he was, and why he believed in what he believe.
- Redirect that money to HELP people.

Louie Loves Us

Brad Pitt has given us $100,000 to fight California's November ballot initiative that would overturn Cali-Cal's Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage.
"Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn't harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8."
Thanks Brad, we love you.

Gay marriage is a FAKE marriage

Loser of the Month, Timothy J. Dailey is Senior Fellow for Policy at Family Research Council. And for some reason, he wants to share some "facts" about gay, uh, counterfeit marriage.
Homosexual marriage degrades a time-honored institution
Homosexual marriage is an empty pretense that lacks the fundamental sexual complementariness of male and female. And like all counterfeits, it cheapens and degrades the real thing. The destructive effects may not be immediately apparent, but the cumulative damage is inescapable. The eminent Harvard sociologist, Pitirim Sorokin, analyzed cultures spanning several thousand years on several continents, and found that virtually no society has ceased to regulate sexuality within marriage as traditionally defined, and survived.
Homosexual marriage would radically redefine marriage to include virtually any sexual behavior.
Once marriage is no longer confined to a man and a woman, and the sole criterion becomes the presence of "love" and "mutual commitment," it is impossible to exclude virtually any "relationship" between two or more partners of either sex. To those who scoff at concerns that gay marriage could lead to the acceptance of other harmful and widely-rejected sexual behaviors, it should be pointed out that until very recent times the very suggestion that two women or two men could "marry" would have been greeted with scorn. The movement to redefine marriage has already found full expression in what is variously called "polyfidelity" or "polyamory," which seeks to replace traditional marriage with a bewildering array of sexual combinations among various groups of individuals.
Homosexual marriage is not a civil rights issue
Defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman would not deny homosexuals the basic civil rights accorded other citizens. Nowhere in the Bill of Rights or in any legislation proceeding from it are homosexuals excluded from the rights enjoyed by all
citizens--including the right to marry. However, no citizen has the unrestricted right to marry whomever they want. A person cannot marry a child, a close blood relative, two or more spouses, or the husband or wife of another person. Such restrictions are based upon the accumulated wisdom not only of Western civilization but also of societies and cultures around the world for millennia.
If victorious, the homosexual agenda will lead to the persecution of those who object on moral or religious groundsIf homosexual marriage becomes the law of the land, then children in public schools will be taught that homosexuality is a normative lifestyle, and that gay households are just another "variant" style of family. Those who object may find themselves on the wrong side of the law. Unbelievable? This Orwellian situation has occurred in Massachusetts , which legalized homosexual marriage in 2004. In April 2005, David Parker, the parent of a six-year-old boy, protested to the Lexington elementary school after his son was taught about homosexual "families" in his kindergarten class.
At a scheduled meeting at the school, when Parker refused to back down from his request that the school honor the Massachusetts parental notification statute, he was arrested for "trespassing," handcuffed, and put in jail overnight. The next morning Parker was led handcuffed into court for his arraignment, and over the next several months endured two subsequent court appearances before the school district backed down and decided to drop all charges against him. In 2007, Parker's lawsuit against the Lexington school officials was dismissed by a federal judge who refused to uphold his civil rights and to enforce the Massachusetts parental notification statute. Parker's shocking story will become commonplace in a society that forces the acceptance of homosexual marriage as normative.

Marriage Works...Civil Unions too

A study states that legalized same-sex couple relationships appears to last longer than those without a legal status.
Conducted by researchers from the University of Washington, San Diego State University and the University of Vermont, the study is the first to examine the experiences of couples in the five years since Vermont legalized civil unions.
The Vermont study followed-up on a 2002 project that was the first to focus on legalized relationships of same-sex couples in the US, following establishment of civil unions in Vermont in 2000.
Sixty-five male and 138 female couples who entered into civil unions during the first year they were available were asked to provide information. They were compared to 23 male and 61 female couples not in civil unions and 55 heterosexual married couples who were related to the same-sex couples in civil unions.
Same-sex couples not in civil unions were more likely to have ended their relationship than same-sex couples in civil unions or heterosexual married couples in the study. This finding supports earlier research by Lawrence Kurdek at Wright State University and by Green, Bettinger, and Zacks at Alliant International University that compared same-sex unmarried and heterosexual married couples and found marriage was linked to longer lasting relationships.
This is very interesting info, but I wonder if legalized couples fair well in major cities...like Los Angeles, New York, or Boston. I'm curious to know more.

How Are We Destroying Marriage Again?
Some ideas
The Bachelor and shows like this takes the whole affair of courting and pound it into twelve 1 hour features. And if you watch this mess, none of the relationships last. Getting a fake prince charming to find a cheerleader of his dreams is borderline high school and silly.
This event puts arrogant young business boys with silly fashion girls in hopes to create their lasting love affair. So far, it's increased drunken one-night stands and stained dresses.
This is the quickest trip to divorce court. Sugardaddies.com claims that the classy and prettiest people come here, hoping to find that perfect person to complete their lost and lonely lives. Basically this foolishness only pushes the notions that women are gold diggers and men are...well, men. Then, TV undermines marriage as boring and celebrates cheating and uber sex, according to the Parents Television Council. I usually don't agree with their stuff, but they do have a point with their recent research.
The study analyzed four weeks of scripted shows on the major networks at the start of the 2007-08 season, noting content including depictions of sex; implied sex; discussions on the subject, and visual references to strippers, pornography and other aspects of sexuality.
Among the networks overall, references to adultery outnumbered references to marital sex by 2 to 1. The "family hour" -- the first hour of prime-time TV, which draws the most young viewers -- contained the highest ratio of references to non-married vs. married sex, the study found.
So, I think it's safe to say we are not causing the increase in divorce. Our counterparts are doing a great job without us.

Do y'all do anything besides being thorns in our sides?
American “Family” Association and Campaign for Children and Families are two major organizations that are hell bent on protecting families and the vaguest thing on Earth, moral values. But every year, especially during election year, they come out in numbers to fight the main thing that is destroying our American lives...HOMOSEXUALITY.
This is their main charge, to stop gayness before it takes over the world. Out of all things to do, they come for us. As a group all about protecting the families, it would be nice for them to fight high gas prices that's causing schools to go from 5 days to 4 days a week. And because of the soaring gas prices, food is becoming too expensive to buy. They could focus on the closing Arts programs in schools. They could explore the lack of diversity education kids receive. Equal pay between women and men, more benefits for maternity leave, stronger after school programs, foster care, and more. But no, they come after us. Makes you wonder if they even know what their priorities are.
It's sad to see these groups abandon more important issues that affect families to attack issues that has nothing to do with them. I think I should send them a list just to remind them of what the can do for families. Gay marriage isn't dangerous to families. Straight marriage has been screwing things up way before we could arrange the colors of our tuxedos. So Campaign for Children and Families and Foolishness, look at the bigger picture for once.

Will Gay Marriage ever be a Black thing?
I was asked if Black people were ready for gay marriage. And I had to think about it for a minute. Are we ready for it? Well we should be. At one time, there was a lot things we couldn't do, in fact, some would say it was God's law for us to be 2nd class citizens.
So with that in mind, I would like to think so, but I'm not sure. With the Black church being such a big, big string puller in our culture, it will take years before half or more are ready for gay marriage. Also the myth that anything LGBT is a White thing, is still prevalent. I can't tell you how it irks me to still hear that mess.
I'm hopeful; we are in a period of change. However, I really feel that Black religious leaders have a lot of clout. So, until they take on a more social change perspective or when people challenge their views and question themselves regularly, it will take years before its truly accepted in the Black culture. That's just my opinion, hopefully I'm wrong.
