The Bible Verses Kim Davis should be Concerned With

Since Kim Davis wants to follow God's Authority, she might want to look at the pages where she's at odds with the good book. Trust me there's more, but I thought these verses were a great place to start.

On Adultery

Mark 10:12 - And if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.

Ezekiel 16:38 - And I will judge you as women who commit adultery and shed blood are judged, and bring upon you the blood of wrath and jealousy.

Proverbs 23:27 - For a prostitute is a deep pit; an adulteress is a narrow well.

Jeremiah 3:9 - And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

Pride, Haughtiness and Discrimination

Proverbs 11:2 - When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.

Luke 16:11 - If then you have not been faithful in the unrighteous wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches?

Matthew 7:1 - Judge not, that ye be not judged.

Zephaniah 3:11 - In that day you will feel no shame Because of all your deeds By which you have rebelled against Me; For then I will remove from your midst Your proud, exulting ones, And you will never again be haughty On My holy mountain.

Proverbs 16:5 - Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished.

Proverbs 21:4 - Haughty eyes and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, are sin.

Following the law

Romans 13:1-7 - Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers hold no terror for those who do right, but for those who do wrong. Do you want to be free from fear of the one in authority? Then do what is right and he will commend you. For he is God's servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God's servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer. Therefore, it is necessary to submit to the authorities, not only because of possible punishment but also because of conscience. This is also why you pay taxes, for the authorities are God's servants, who give their full time to governing. Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

1 Peter 2:13-17 Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human institution, whether to a king as the one in authority, or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and the praise of those who do right.
For such is the will of God that by doing right you may silence the ignorance of foolish men.[Act] as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil, but [use it] as bondslaves of God. 17 Honor all men; love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

The Bill to make The Bible the Official Book of Tennessee Fails

So, I told y'all about the lawmakers who wanted the Bible to be the official book in my home state of Tennessee. The House voted yes, but THANK GOD, the Senate said no.

The Senate voted 22-9 on the dumb measure, pretty much killing the bill a mere 24 hours after the crackheads in the House sent it to them.

Gov. Bill Haslam and Attorney General Herbert Slatery basically said, "This bill is crazy" and completely opposed it. AG Slatery believes the bill violates the state and federal constitutions.

Religious Scholars reveal the The Bible doesn't define Marriage between a Man and a Woman

Three religious scholars (Hector Avalos, Robert R. Cargill and Kenneth Atkinson) got together and discovered something wonderful.

When haters tell us that the Bible says marriage is for a man and woman, that's a lie. Well, I knew that, but anyway these scholars wrote an editorial that points out how the Bible doesn't define marriage between a man and a woman.

HuffPo reports

The joint editorial was written by Hector Avalos, Robert R. Cargill and Kenneth Atkinson and published in the Des Moines Register on Sunday. The men teach at Iowa State University, University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa, respectively.

"The debate about marriage equality often centers, however discretely, on an appeal to the Bible," the authors wrote. "Unfortunately, such appeals often reflect a lack of biblical literacy on the part of those who use that complex collection of texts as an authority to enact modern social policy."

The Bible's definition of marriage can be confusing and contradictory, noted the scholars. They stated in their column that a primary example of this is the religious book's stance on polygamy, a practice that was embraced by prominent biblical figures Abraham and David. Furthermore, Avalos, Cargill and Atkinson point out that various Bible passages mention not only traditional monogamy, but also self-induced castration and celibacy, as well as the practice of wedding rape victims to their rapists.

This info will be met with plenty of push back, but it will start a fascinating conversation.

In Louisiana: GOP Lawmakers push a Bill to make The Bible the State Book

This is some mess!

A House municipal committee has put forth a bill that would make the Bible Louisiana's official state book.

This silly bill passed with an 8-5 vote, sending it to the House for discussion. Rep. Thomas Carmody is the fool who sponsored the bill. He claims he isn't trying to push Christianity in the state, but what does he call this foolishness?

The Bible the official state book... A book of tall tales as a state book.

I don't think this will actually pass, but seriously, lawmakers... Get it together.

Harsh Truth of the Day

Research shows that white audiences will not watch TV shows or movies which they judge to have too many people of color as characters. A historically accurate version of the Bible, which embraced the demographic realities of the era such as HBO’s epic series, “Rome,” would be a revelation. Unfortunately, many in the American public would be unwilling to hear such a basic truth, for it would be too upsetting for those who have internalized whiteness and white privilege even on matters of religion and faith.
