Racism ain't what it used to be

No real shock here, but a new study in the journal, Science says many people unconsciously have racist attitudes, even though they see themselves smart and level-headed.

But Kerry Kawakami, associate professor of psychology at York University in Toronto, Ontario,
and lead author of the study, realized "People are willing to tolerate racism and not stand up against it."

Here's the breakdown:

The study divided 120 non-black people into the roles of "experiencers" and "forecasters." The "experiencers" were placed in a room with a white person and a black person, who played out pre-arranged scenarios for the experiment. The scenarios began when the black role-player bumped the white role-player's knee when leaving the room.

In the first scenario, the white person did not comment afterwards. In the "moderate" case, the white person said, "Typical, I hate it when black people do that," after the black person left the room. In the "extreme" case, the white person remarked, "Clumsy n****r."

Interesting...

The "forecasters," meanwhile, predicted how they would feel in these situations. Experiencers reported little distress in all three scenarios, much less than the forecasters did in the moderate and severe situations.

Immediately afterwards, the participants were asked to choose either the black person or the white person as a partner for an anagram test. More than half of experiencers chose the white partner -- regardless of the severity of the comment that person made earlier. As for the forecasters, less than half chose the white partner when a comment was made, but most chose the white person when no comment was made.

"Some people might think that they're very egalitarian and they don't have to deal with their prejudices, and that's not related to them at all, when in actual fact they may hold these hidden biases," Kawakami said.

Wow...I'm surprised with this study. But I would love to see how we are towards other races. I am curious to see a different format for once. Still interesting info though.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, which honors and commemorates the deaths of transgendered individuals who fell victim to intolerance, foolishness, and ignorance.

With so much happening to our brothers and sisters, we much protect our "family" as much as we can.

Prayer Power

I guess they are doing what they got to do. Hundreds of pastors are calling on their congregations to fast and pray for passage of a ballot measure in November that would destroy gay marriage in California.

The collective act of piety, starting Wednesday and culminating three days before the election in a revival for as many as 100,000 people at the San Diego Chargers' stadium, comes as church leaders across California put people, money and powerful words behind Proposition 8.

Some pastors around the state and nation are encouraging their flocks to forgo solid food for up to 40 days in the biblical tradition.

Jim Garlow, the pastor of the evangelical Skyline Church in San Diego County, said he expects up to 100 young adults to spend five-plus weeks on his campus, subsisting on soup, juice and the promise of societal salvation.

"This is not political to us. We see it as very spiritual," said Garlow, a leader of an interfaith coalition that has held monthly teleconferences, shared sermons and solicited donations for the ballot measure.

Okay, but it is political. If it was spiritual everything would just fall in place.

W.A.S.T.I.N.G.M.O.N.E.Y do you know what that means?

All of these useless family groups, Mormons, and religious zealots are really getting on my nerves with the Prop 8 malarkey.

According to a few articles: Focus on the Family, a Colorado Springs group headed by James Dobson, has given more than $400,000 to the Prop. 8 campaign. The American Family Association, out of Tupelo, Miss., has contributed $500,000. The Knights of Columbus, a national Catholic men's organization headquartered in New Haven, Conn., has put $250,000 into the campaign.

And there are other groups as well, raising over 5 million dollars to stop us from marrying. But on the treal, they are wasting money.

These groups are wasting money on this battle. Instead of putting money towards a losing battle, they should use that money to...(drum roll) HELP FRAKING PEOPLE!

There are people staving, homeless, the hurricanes just hit a couple states, the economy has belly flopped and these jokes on a rope are trying to stop gay marriage! Hey folks, that's not Godly, that foolish and almost vindictive. I ask these groups to do 2 things.

1. Read the Bible, remember what Jesus did, who he was, and why he believed in what he believe.
2. Redirect that money to HELP people.

It's a shame that people are not living up to a real purpose in life.

With the storms hitting the Gulf states, I hope that everyone is safe and out of there. This must be hard for the families who just got their lives back together. I can not imagine what they're going through.

And I'm glad Obama and McCain are trying to help the residents of those states. However, I hope that FEMA will be on their toes this time. They said that they are ready, but I don't know, they have screwed up and over so many people already.

Then, they're families and people who can't leave. They either have nowhere to go or can't afford to leave. Once again they're trapped between losing everything and losing everything. I believe they are afraid to leave because they don't trust the system.

The government failed big time with Katrina, why wouldn't they believe it will happen again. They need hope and trust back in the lives. As I said before, I can not imagine what they are going through, but my heart goes out to them.

Only God, Not Doctors, Can Save People

Well, I'm not surprised to hear this but a survey reveals a huge belief that divine intervention can save dying patients
More than half of randomly surveyed adults -- 57 percent -- said God's intervention could save a family member even if physicians declared treatment would be futile. And nearly three-quarters said patients have a right to demand that treatment continue.

And, researchers said, doctors "need to be prepared to deal with families who are waiting for a miracle."

I guess that's the hard part, dealing with these folks who believe that a golden angel is going to save the day. Maybe the doctors need a counselor standing very closely when the madness starts. Or maybe a person who can slap some sense in these people.

I think the race war may not happen

In 2050, minorities will be the majority in America according to projections in the U.S. Census Bureau. Minorities, classified as those of any race other than non-Hispanic, single-race whites, currently constitute about a third of the U.S. population, according to Census figures. But by 2042, they are projected to become the majority, making up more than half the population. By 2050, 54 percent of the population will be minorities.

Minority children are projected to reach that milestone even sooner. By 2023, the bureau said, more than half of all children will be minorities.

I'm interested in learning what states will see the "increase". With the balance slowly tipping, I wonder in the South will be a totally different place. I'm also curious to see how diverse the job market will be and if the glass ceiling notion will have much meaning. If the numbers are correct, will Affirmative Action be necessary? Will certain scholarships continue or fade out. Who knows, but I guess we will see...soon.

How Many More of these Fools...

Well I knew someone would try this, luckily he was stopped. Victim of youth, Raymond Hunter Geisel, 22, was arrested for threatening to kill Obama.

In fact this fool said, "If he gets elected, I'll assassinate him myself."

He was arrested Saturday in Miami and was ordered held without bail Thursday by a federal magistrate. Geisel also said, "he hated George W. Bush and that he wanted to put a bullet in the president's head."

When they search his Ford Explorer and hotel room in Miami, they found a loaded 9mm handgun, knives, dozens of rounds of ammunition including armor-piercing types, body armor, military-style fatigues and a machete. The SUV, which has Maine license plates, was wired with flashing red and yellow emergency lights.
