Someone lay hands on Arizona!

Check this out, y'all

Arizona Proposal Would Prohibit Race-Based Student Groups

An Arizona legislative committee has passed an amendment to a routine homeland-security bill that would prohibit students at the state’s public universities and community colleges from organizing groups based on race. The amendment was approved by the Arizona House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday. It still awaits a vote by the state’s full House and Senate.

The amendment, introduced by State Rep. Russell K. Pearce, a Republican, would also allow state officials to withhold funds from public schools sponsoring activities that “denigrate American values and the teachings of Western civilization.” The proposal was added to Senate Bill 1108, a measure that has nothing to do with education but was intended to allow designees of mayors and police chiefs to serve on homeland-security advisory councils.

“This bill basically says, ‘You’re here. Adopt American values,’” State Rep. John Kavanagh, a Republican, told The Arizona Republic. “‘If you want a different culture, then fine, go back to that culture,’” he said. —JJ Hermes

Are you kidding me? Who is this Pearce? And what is he thinking, hell, what is Arizona thinking? I actually worked at Arizona State University last year before coming to L.A. and I tell you the racism was thick. Regardless of the huge Latino population and growing black population, I was reminded that I shouldn't be there. Now seeing this makes me think they don't want any students of color there, or at least gathering as a group.

I find this very appalling. This amendment is saying we don't care about your culture, we don't care about your race. If it's not like ours, then it's mush. But when you break in down, all of our cultures make American traditions. These student groups should exist to continue educating others about different cultures. I rather get it in school than on the Real World or Big Brother (Josh is a disgrace to us, btw). Also these groups help educate and motivate within the culture as well. I learned a lot about my culture due to my involvement in the Black Student Council.

I don't know what's they are afraid of, what they think may happen. But if anything, they are showing the lack of education and common sense they have in that state. I trying not to be too upset, but please, get real. We are in the 21st century, Arizona. Get with it and get it together.

This is crazy!

Seriously, people need to grow some balls and just come out as the racists they are.

Under the guise of Homeland Security, they can pawn it off as directed toward Middle Eastern terrorists.

Did any of us really think this country wasn't seriously fucked in the head, to put it politely? I can understand patriotism (in theory, since I have little), but really. Sure a lot of us don't like some labels, but this is supposedly a free country...
