The Best of Both Worlds

Being a part of two underrepresented groups can drive you crazy sometimes. Especially when you can't explain some of the foolishness your groups can get into. On the gay side, it seems we are the first to get on the trendy bus and the very last to get off. And on the black side, sometimes we can't leave the ghetto aspects at home.

Let me elaborate on the negatives:

Gay side:
more invested in clubs, shallowness, and drugs
love artists that are not really talented, but clearly tragic
tend to copy one another in looks
afraid to get older
worship Madonna
struggle with being faithful
over-sexed

Black side:
have warped sense of gender roles
accept the thug culture as a part our main culture
more of us in jail than in college
believes that pimps are credible beings
afraid to step out of social and emotional boxes

Now, I'm only focusing on the negatives because these things are our worst aspects. I would sell my soul to erase this list from my groups. But until we recognize these issues and move forward, we'll be carrying this baggage forever. I have to remember that a change have to start somewhere. And it starts with one person at a time.
