I think all legislative efforts currently underway (DADT, ENDA) are dead, and they'll be no movement whatsoever on anything introduced in the next Congress. And I don't mean just gay rights issues. I mean all issues. We will have two years of gridlock.
As far as the courts, we have two big cases in the 9th Circuit now (DADT and Prop. 8) and if those end our way the lack of movement in Congress will be moot.
I hope I'm wrong with the gridlock prediction, but I feel the GOP would have no qualms destroying this nation if it would make Obama look bad.
V, I completely agree with Larry on this one, although I don't think they are singularly focused on destroying Obama. I think ultimately the goal is to destroy as much progressive thought and action as possible.
I grew up believing that the Democratic party believed in social change and the Republicans opposed social change. With that said, I do not anticipate any forward movement on GLBT issues. I suspect that there could be one or two giant steps backward, regardless of what the 9th Circuit Court decides regarding DADT and Prop 8. And I predict that the Supremes will not step into the fray, leaving it up to the State level. And that, as we all know, plops us right back to where we started.
