Family...Rick Warren ain't worth it so let's move on

For the past week, I have heard everything you can hear about Rick Warren this and Rick Warren that...it's getting to the point that Rick Warren has conquered the world.

Yes, I'm disappointed that he's speaking at Obama's cotillion, but I'm not going to let that ruin my hope for the future. Many of our family are up at arms over this, saying that we have been thrown under the bus, and Obama don't care about us. But I beg to differ, he does care about us, all of us. It's not just our party.

However, I have a few points to make about this Rick stuff. It may be crazy talk, but I have to get this out.

• Rick Warren is not in the cabinet or in Obama's smart team, he's giving a prayer. It's not a secret that Rick ain't a fan of us. But seriously, how many preachers are a big fan of the gays...not many. And how many of us are a big supporter of the Lord?
  
• We are giving Ricky too much power. I remember at the end of A Nightmare of Elm Street, where Nancy told Freddy, that she will take back all the power she gave him to be real. And when she did, he disappeared. We have given him too much power over us. We need to realize he can't hurt us or say anything that we can't deal with. We can handle his views, we have been for quite some time. We should let him speak. He can't harm us if we let him, we are stronger than that. Remember Ricky is only a man.
  
• Are we that fickle? After reading many articles and responses, many of our family are hatin' on Obama. Really, it's not that serious. Obama has said he is supportive of us, we have to trust in his words. To turn our backs this easily could backfire. We need to show that we can deal and continue to hold Obama to his word and support.
• Rev. Joseph Lowery is also speaking too. He supports us and provides a balance to Ricky.
• And it's a prayer, not a spell to cast out all of us from the world. Again, we are putting too much power in him.
  

I feel like this is getting way out of hand. Sure, I'm not feeling Ricky, but he ain't all that. We have dealt with tougher things than a damn prayer man. I know what Ricky thinks of us and I know what Obama thinks too. I'm holding on to Obama's words and promise. Ricky can't tell me nothing, I know who I am and I know what I believe. Okay I'm rambling, but I think we can deal with this. Obama will not let us down, we have to have faith...it's our greatest weapon.

My Favorite Christmas Specials

As the holidays steal all my money, I have to take this time to remember good ole days when I got gifts and I didn't have to spend a nickel.

Seriously, I realized there are no real Christmas specials anymore. I mean there's the annual TV parade and Broadway stuff, but what about the specials. BBC have Christmas specials, however I think we are too cool for them in the Americas. Yet, I remember the days I would curl up on the couch and watch my Christmas specials.

Here are a few of my faves over the years.

Emmet Otter's Jug Band Christmas-I loved this show just because it was about family and making the best with what you had. And it was the Muppets, how could you not love the Muppets!


Donny and Marie Christmas Special-I know, I know Mormons are not the "it" thing right now, but when I was 4 or 5, I loved Donny and Marie. They were the wonder twins even though they wasn't twins. However it was a great special and I've watched it every other year.


He-Man and She-Ra Christmas Special-Cheesy but cute...a couple of earth kids go to He-Man's homeland and bring Christmas to another world.

The Spirit's Sidekick, Ebony White

As y'all know The Spirit will be out on Christmas Day. So far we know everything about the femme fatales and Samuel L. Jackson.

But will Ebony White make appearance? Who is he? Ebony is the Spirit's sidekick who helped him out of tough situations and drives him in his taxi. If so I hope not this version.

The 1st version was a complete stereotypical version of Black folks. He talked and acted as the victim of the Jim Crow era. After much criticism over Ebony, the creator Will Eisner decided to change the character by sending him to school in the February 10, 1946 strip.

Years later he came back or revamped into this guy or kid.

They Won't Let Up

They are full of God's love. Our Prop H8 friends wants to end gay marriage now, nullifying all 18,000 gay marriages in the state.

The Yes on 8 campaign filed a brief arguing that because the new law holds that only marriages between a man and a woman are recognized or valid in California, the state can no longer recognize the existing same-sex unions. The document reveals for the first time that opponents of same-sex marriage will fight in court to undo those unions that already exist.

And they even have the help of the witch hunter himself, Ken Starr to argue their cause. But that was yesterday, before Jerry Brown urged the court to repeal the Prop H8. However, I'm a little shocked at their actions. It's almost...no, it is heartless. They don't want our folks to enjoy the limited time they have left. Have they no shame?

No, especially with this statement from the supporters:

"For this court to rule otherwise would be to tear asunder a lavish body of jurisprudence," the court papers state. "That body of decisional law commands judges _ as servants of the people _ to bow to the will of those whom they serve _ even if the substantive result of what people have wrought in constitution-amending is deemed unenlightened."

Repeal Prop 8? Did I hear that right?

Here's some interesting news on Saturday morning, gang. The California Attorney General Jerry Brown is urging the state Supreme Court to repeal Prop H8.

Jerry also filed a legal brief saying the measure that amended the state constitution to make marriage for straights only is unconstitutional because it blocks out a minority group (us) of a fundamental right.

Interesting switchorooie for Brown, who earlier in this game said he would defend Prop 8 against any legal challenges. But after deeper probing in the laws and constitution, Brown was to say the least, enlightened.

He said: "It became evident that the Article 1 provision guaranteeing basic liberty, which includes the right to marry, took precedence over the initiative. Based on my duty to defend the law and the entire Constitution, I concluded the court should protect the right to marry even in the face of the 52 percent vote."

This is a major move. I'm sure that the supporters of Prop H8 are pissed, but that's a good thing.

True Life...MTV continues their destruction of the Youth

As economy woes act as the 40 day flood to the TV networks, MTV has scaled back their spending and moved towards more and cheaper reality shows.

RADAR reports

"These new series reflect Generation 'Why Not?' -- living, working and playing on their own terms, 'adventure capitalists' if you will, pursuing a variety of thrill-seeking, 2.0, express-yourself enterprises," said Brian Graden, president of entertainment at MTV Networks Music Group.

We're not entirely sure what that means, but here's what they have in the gate:

The CollegeHumor Show, set in the offices of the twentysomething-run website CollegeHumor.com.

Rob Dyrdek's Fantasy Factory, with the co-star of MTV's Rob & Big, who is trying to grow his skateboarding business via the Fantasy Factory, a 25,000-square-foot warehouse that is transformed into a play house.

Daddy's Girls, with Rev Run's daughters Vanessa and Angela Simmons of Run's House. In this outing, they move to Los Angeles and open a store to sell their apparel line while Vanessa tries to make it as an actor.

The Girls of Hedsor Hall, inspired by the British Ladette to Lady, about a dozen foul-mouthed party girls who go to finishing school. Former Miss USA Tara Conner will be the "visiting instructor" and the winner gets $100,000.

An untitled reality show which follows students of Cincinnati's School for the Creative and Performing Arts.

A little more diverse than their past mess, but still, possibly...mess. And I hope they stop making the Real World, if I want to see amateur porn I'll go to Xtube.
