Buffy gets a Gay Male Slayer, Billy

Who says slaying is for girls! In the Buffy the Vampire Slayer comic universe, we finally see a gay male slayer!

His name is Billy.
Billy is about a young man who finds strength by standing up to vampires (a metaphor for bullies?) and defining who he is going to be rather than letting others tell him who he should be.
"Billy is someone who sees a need in his hometown and steps up to fill the void, even at great personal risk," says Greenberg. "He may not have the actual powers of the Slayers, but he's determined to be his own kind of hero, one who's sort of modeled after those who do have the power, and he sets out to make due with what he has. In the process, I think he hopes to follow the lead of all the strong, powerful Slayers who came before him and live up to the standard they set."
Greenberg admits that while working on Buffy together, they talked a lot about introducing a gay character to the television show.
Billy appears is issue 14. Here are some scenes from the comic after the jump

Doctor Who/Star Trek Crossover is coming in May

Two of Sci-Fi classics are crossing paths. The Doctor and the crew of the Enterprise are coming together in a new comic book.

Here's more:
STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION/DOCTOR WHO: ASSIMILATION2 will feature fan-favorite villains the Borg and the Cybermen as they create an unholy alliance resulting in potential disaster for all humanity. Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise find themselves joining forces with the Doctor and his companions, with the fate of the galaxy hanging in the balance.

"We are excited about this new adventure for the Doctor and the fact that he will be traveling with Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his iconic crew. This is a perfect partnership for not only Doctor Who’s incredible fans, but also for the brand.
This should be fun.

2010's Best Moments in Comics

Comics were pretty good this year and there were some moments that kicked ass in 2010.

Hope Summers/Jean Grey/Phoenix? -The X-Men saw hope for the mutant race in, well, Hope. The mutant girl was gifted with the powers of the Phoenix, but is she Jean Grey? Time will tell...

The Death of Rupert Giles - Our favorite librarian/Watcher was killed by Angel. Completely changed the game in Buffy.

The Return of Batman - Everybody thought Bats was dead, but he was stuck in time. However, he found a way back to the present.

The Blackest Night - New Lanterns, the Dead rises and Heroes restored. Great series.

Nightcrawler's Death - We lost our favorite demon as he risked his life for Hope Summers.

Wonder Woman's New Costume - Love it or Hate it, her costume cause everyone to talk about Diana.

Archie Comics goes Gay

Wow, first an interracial kiss in Archie comics and now, a gay character!

Check it out!

Kevin Keller, who first appears in Veronica #202 released on September 1st, 2010, is a teenager at Riverdale High School, the fictional universe that has been entertaining kids of all ages since 1939.

"In the last year or two, we've been introducing a lot of new characters: Diverse characters, characters with different ethnicities. With trying to be diverse, we wanted to have everybody at the table," said cartoonist Dan Parent, who's writing and drawing the issue. "We knew at some point we wanted to introduce a gay character, and when I came up with the story idea, we felt it worked in context with this story."

So cute.

Possible Wolverine Movie ideas?

To be honest, I don't care about Wolvie's past. It's long, crazy, complicated and a movie may never do it justice. And what was put together was a hot mess.

However, if I had a shot at this I would pose these ideas as possible storylines.

  • I would have used the 1st Wolverine mini-series as a possible plot. The story was excellent and it showcased many sides of Logan. Also we could have been introduced to the Silver Samurai, Mariko, and Yukio.
  • Madripoor would have been a great place to send Wolvie. This crime city is supposedly located in the Southeast Asian island port nations. It's divided between rich and glitzy Hightown and poor, crime-ridden Lowtown. A lot of things went down in that town and it would have a perfect setting for a movie. Wolvie could have crossed paths with the crimelord Nguyen Ngoc Coy and his famous niece, Karma. Viper, Tyger Tiger would be interesting folks and fun villains like Roughhouse and Bloodscream could have spiced up the flick.
  • If they had to deal with Wolvie's past, the Omega Red origin (X-Men issue 4-7) would have been fun. Sabertooth was there so he would have a purpose. Also we would have some interesting characters like Matsu'o Tsurayaba, Baron von Strucker and his twins/Fernis, Maverick, Omega Red and the Hand. I think the Hand would have been neat to see.

My Bullet Point Wolvie Review

So the Wolverine movie...What do I say after that 2 hours of mashed up images?

I will review this movie in bullet points, pros and cons (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Pros
  • The guys are HOT! Hugh, Ryan, Liev, Taylor, Daniel (in fact, Liev brought the sexy in his version of Sabertooth)
  • Some of the action was good...just some.
  • We saw Hugh's butt and he wore tight jeans a lot.
Cons
  • The plot made no sense, it completely crapped on Wolverine's past.
  • The 1st 30 minutes were a blur of storylines that just confused everyone.
  • There were no mention of Wolvie's Asian past.
  • Too many explosions.
  • They took too many liberties with the characters. Gambit's powers and The Blob's powers were remixed and overhauled. Emma Frost's diamond shell is a secondary mutation. It was too much.
  • Silver Fox and Emma Frost were sisters...WTF?
  • They never talked about the Wolvie's healing factor.
  • The fight scenes were predicable.
  • Fox Studios made this mess.
  • Sabertooth could have done more, he was boring, hot, but boring.
The movie was better than X-Men 3, but by an inch. The folks at Fox should stop and look at the mess they are making with Marvel Comics. I am so glad that Marvel Studios take back the mutants in 2012.

So the movie was bad, but you may to see it to believe it.

This Man could be Thor

Thor is coming to the screens and this guy could the Norse god.

Charlie Hunnam confirmed that he has indeed screen-tested for the role of the god of thunder. He has only shot one screen test so far, and when asked if it involved running around with a helmet and a hammer, he replied with a smile, "Something like that."

Hunnam didn't know what the status of the casting was but said that his people have been talking to Marvel. He believes that since Marvel pushed the start date of Thor back a few months the studio is taking its time to make the best decision for the film.

My Top 7 Storm Stories

Storm...my favorite X-Men character has been through it over the years. But through each issue, she remains strong.

So I wanted to share some of my favorite Storm stories

Marvel Team-Up 100- Ororo meets her future husband, The Black Panther. It was a cute story which gave us a glimpse of her childhood.

UXM 122- Ororo visits her childhood home in Harlem and learned the harsh truth about life. We saw a human side of her in this story.

UXM 151-152- Emma Frost switched bodies with Storm. After the switch was reversed, Ororo had to give Emma the beat down

UXM 170- Storm had to save the X-Men, so she toughen up and stabbed Callisto in the heart. I gain respect for her in this issue

UXM 188- Storm lost her powers, dealt with the shock of that and fell in love with Forge.

UXM 198- She came to terms with her fate and rediscovered her purpose.

UXM 290-Forge asked for her hand in marriage, but her hesitation caused Forge rescind his offer and leave Storm heartbroken...I cried after reading this issue.

Creepy is Coming Back!

I'm excited!!

Creepy the comic is coming back!!!

According to Shock till you Drop:

Dark Horse Comics is resurrecting the macabre anthology series "Creepy"!

Original "Creepy" artist Angelo Torres teams up with devilish Dan Braun on "Hell Hound Blues"; Michael Woods and artist Saskia Gutekunst serve up a dose of "Chemical 13"; Neil Kleid and Brian Churilla provide "All the Help You Need" at a weird weight-loss camp; and jaundiced Jason Shawn Alexander brings his phenomenal painting skills to Joe Harris's "The Curse"! Plus Bernie Wrightson, the return of "Loathsome Lore," and more.

All this, plus one classic story from Uncle Creepy's dank dungeon, and you've got 48 freakish pages of terror to bring home to mummy! Gaze in fear at Eric "The Goon" Powell's painted cover!
"Creepy" hits comic shops everywhere on July 15th.

Love it! I have some classic Creepy comics and I hope the new stories are just as good.

Meeting a Great Gay Comic Artist...Belasco

So this Saturday, I took a little trip to WeHo (West Hollywood) to see one of my favorite artist, Belasco.

If you haven't heard of him, then you are missing out. He is the creator of his own gay erotic comics featuring men of color. The stories are fascinating and very sexy. I remember reading Brothers of New Essex when I moved to New York.

The art and story was alluring and completely stimulating. I was easily drawn to his work and hoped to see more. Over the years, I would run into his art in Meatman and various gay erotica, and he never disappointed me. Then, I found out that he had a blog and became a follower.

He announced that he would be at the Tom of Finland Erotic Art Fair, so I had to go and support. Once I met Belasco, I found out that he grew up in the South as well and he enjoyed the Wonder Woman animated DVD. I was also got him to sign one of his graphic novels for me. I would show y'all, but I can't find my camera. I was very pleased with Jail Trade Unleashed and I'm purchasing Boo vs Oasis today.

So folks check out his blog here, and I thank you Belasco for all the work you do to promote gay men of color erotic art.

Nubia's Brief Return to Comics

Wonder Woman's Black sister, Nubia, is back in the last chapter of Final Crisis, in her sister's role. I won't spoil the reason, but it is good to see her again.

Even if it's brief.

Spidey Loves Obama Too

Obama loves comic books and he really loves Spider-Man. So with that in mind, Marvel comics wanted to join in on the historic moment with their special inauguration day comic book.

According HuffPo:

The comic starts with Spider-Man's alter-ego Peter Parker taking photographs at the inauguration, before spotting two identical Obamas.

Parker decides "the future president's gonna need Spider-Man," and springs into action, using basketball to determine the real Obama and punching out the impostor.

Obama thanks him with a fist-bump.

Cute...the comic will be regular price, so get yours on the 14th
