Producer Lauren Shuler-Donner Speaks about the Future of X-Men Films

If you're not tired of the X-Men movies, then I got some info for you.

Miss Lauren shared some news about the future of  the X-flicks and what we may or may not see:

On the 'First Class' sequels
“For now we're talking internally about the possibility of having another 'First Class', following our characters,” the producer reveals. “We're talking about doing them, but we're just in discussions now.”
She admits no decision have been as to whether any sequel would continue to be set specifically in the 1960s or possibly fast-forward to another era (the 70s are rumored), and was pleased that the unconventional choice to look at Professor X and Magneto’s Cold War origins, as stylishly executed by director Matthew Vaughn, went over well with critics and audiences.
 On Wolverine & Deadpool
“We're figuring out where we're going to shoot it and working on the budget and the script and all that sort of stuff – we're in good prep,” she explains. “Hugh and I wanted to do this originally. I showed him ‘The Wolverine Saga' [a comic book series collecting the integral moments of Wolverine’s once-mysterious life] and we're both very passionate about it, for years now, and so, yes, we're very excited to get this to the screen finally. It's a great story.”
Meanwhile, despite Ryan Reynolds’ defection to Marvel competitor DC Comics to play Green Lantern, Shuler-Donner fully expects to realize a “Deadpool” film with Reynolds, who originated the role in 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine.”
“Absolutely – I wouldn't make 'Deadpool' without Ryan,” she says. “I wouldn't be involved. He's been extremely involved in the process. He was involved with the script. He worked with the writers, throwing out a lot of ideas.
And X-Men 4
“In the future – way in the future – would I like to do an 'X-Men 4'? I would, but again there's no reason to saturate the market. So I would say no – I'm happy with what I'm doing right now.”
Well I hope Marvel takes the X-Men back. I would love to see what they would do with the series.

John Carpenter will bring the 90's hit comic, Darkchylde to the big Screen

John is back with a hot new comic book movie project. However, to us comic fans we are quite familiar with this comic... Do you remember DARKCHYLDE?

STYD has the dish

John Carpenter and Sandy King's Storm King Productions have allied with Randy and Sarah Queen's Darkchylde Entertainment to produce the film, following the release of that aforementioned test footage created by Richard Taylor's Academy Award Winning Weta Workshop.

John Carpenter says, "Randy Queen's hijacked angel, Ariel Chylde, is the best young female character since Laurie Strode in Halloween. Bringing Ariel and her dark mysteries to life should be quite an adventure for us all."

Adds Queen,
"I'm beyond thrilled that John Carpenter, one of our most important, and legendary genre directors, and the man responsible for such landmark films as The Thing, and Halloween has come on board with Weta Workshop to help bring the nightmarish tale of Ariel Chylde to the silver screen. As a horror fan, the thought of Carpenter and Weta together, beautiful dreamscapes, and multiple transformations, makes me incredibly excited. There is a reason nearly his entire catalogue has, or is being remade, and it's because Carpenter is a genius."

Offering a stark contrast to super hero comics,
Darkchylde was a breakout sensation of the late 90's and early 2000's, garnering immediate acclaim, and an unusually large female fanbase.

Which Characters will appear in Wolvie 2?

I found a list of characters that will appear in the next Wolverine movie. For you true comic geeks, you will recognize most of them from the very 1st Wolverine Mini-Series done in 1983.
So here is the list
Zen: A Japanese man “who arranges for Logan’s release” from a Candian prison and “offers to answer questions about his origin if he’ll accompany him to Tokyo”.
Shingen: Shingen’s father was the master of The Hand, an order of ninja. Instead of allowing his son to take leadership of the order, Shingen’s father killed himself and left the Hand without a master. This pretty much defines Shingen now. That’s how it works in these kinds of stories.
Kenuichio: Shingen’s illegitimate son, but not recognised as an heir. An expert Samurai, he will adopt his “Silver Samurai” guise in the movie and attack Logan “several times”.
Mariko: Shingen’s daughter, and Logan’s chief love interest.
Yukio: Logan’s bodyguard and lust interest.
Frank Sinatra: “Japan’s answer to Frank Sinatra. A Yakuza higher-up who provides Logan with information”.
Okay, this movie could be cute... We will see

Rhys Ifans cast as villain in new 'Spider-Man' reboot

New Spider-Man news
Rhys Ifans is playing the bad guy in the next "Spider-Man." But the filmmakers aren't saying yet which character he'll be.

Sony Pictures announced Monday that Ifans, widely known as a comic actor in such films as Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant's "Notting Hill," will co-star as the villain in the superhero adventure due out July 3, 2012.
The studio's announcement notes that the "filmmakers prefer to not reveal which character Ifans will be playing."
Will he be the Lizard?

All-Star Superman Comic will be an Animated Movie

DC Entertainment is about to take one of their acclaimed story lines and make it an animated film... All-Star Superman.

Here's more:

"All-Star" is the 10th DC Comics story line to be turned into an original PG-13 movie by Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Home Video. The comic mini-series has won three Eisner Awards, two Harvey Awards and three Eagle Awards.

Written by Grant Morrison and drawn by Frank Quitely, the story begins with the Man of Steel (Denton) oversaturated by radiation during a rescue mission near the sun, accelerating the degeneration of his cells. Knowing that he has a limited time before he dies, Superman sets out on a journey that sees him revealing his secret to Lois Lane (Hendricks), giving Lex Luthor (LaPaglia) an epiphany on humanity and ensuring the safety of Earth for when he is gone.

Bruce Timm will be the executive producer and Dwayne McDuffie wrote the script. The film will be ready in the Spring.

Now comes the Questions: X-Men- First Class

Bryan Singer has cleared the air about the X-Men: First Class plot. We now know it takes place in the 60s, focusing a lot on Xavier and Mags.

But after a few days of mulling about this, more questions have developed about this flick. I'd hoped my fears would die down, but really, they are at the same place.

So here are a few of my questions besetting this psychedelic mutant madness:
  • Why is Havok in this movie and not Cyclops? Scott is the older brother.
  • If this is in the 60s, why would Emma Frost be in it?
  • The Hellfire Club didn't get rough until the 70s, actually late, late 70s. What will be their role in this movie?
  • If they make Nightcrawler's daddy the creator of the Hellfire Club, I'm boycotting the film! Okay, that's not a question, but I had to say it.
  • Why even call it X-Men: First Class if it has nothing to do with the the ORIGINAL FIVE?
  • Will this movie feature another 1st group that includes Amelia Voght ? And if so, will they use the easy way out (time travel) to get back on track?
  • Will Xavier's school be up and running?
  • Will Gabrielle Haller make an appearance? She was around during that time.
  • Is it possible that Magneto will have a team?
  • Will other Marvel peeps show up in this film?
  • At what point will this flick tie into the X-Universe we know and love?
  • And will this be a flick X-Fans will love?
I want to like this concept, I really do. But I'm getting to the point that too much departure from the official comic book, is not the business.

The X-Men have a rich history. There's no need to remix the story or add in millions of mutants to tell it. They could stick with the original stories with a few changes... Minor changes.

I hope this comes together, because it this falls out, I'm done.

Unless Joss Whedon writes and directs the next one.

Bryan Singer gives Details about the X-Men: First Class movie

The giant cast, the odd story, rumors on Scott or Jean being absent and mixing of multiple characters from the entire X-Men mythos started to scare many fans about the next X-Men movie.

Now, Bryan Singer has finally gave us some much needed perspective. In ACIN, Bryan drops the 411:

First off - the film takes place in the 1960's. John F Kennedy is the President of the United States. Martin Luther King and Malcolm X are on TV doing marches. There is a spirit of a hopeful future that was prevalent in that time. We will see how Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr met - and how they dreamt of a future with Mutant & Human kind. They're going to be in their late twenties. Xavier - as played by James McAvoy will not be in his wheelchair to begin the film - but we will see how he wound up in a wheelchair. I asked if McAvoy would have a nice shiny chrome dome - and folks. We're going to see Professor X when he still had hair. We'll see McAvoy and Fassbender's Magneto formulate what it is they are attempting by creating the X-MEN.

Now Bryan wanted us to know this is not the conventional FIRST CLASS comic - but rather a new beginning for X-MEN. Set in the 60s - Vaughn is technologically inspired by JAMES BOND's tech of the time. The costumes will be far more comic bookish than we've seen before - and while Scott and Jean aren't here - Cyclops' brother Alex Summers aka Havoc will be, as played by Lucas Till.

With January Jones and Kevin Bacon playing Emma Frost and Sebastian Shaw - we will be getting the HELLFIRE CLUB. I commented that the HELLFIRE CLUB has always felt like something that it would be wrong to modernize, as it felt as though it were something specific to the swinging Hefner era of the 60s... and Bryan said that's exactly why they're making use of the HELLFIRE CLUB... the dress and the costumes associated with that glorious period of the X-MEN... belong in the 60s. I asked if Kevin Bacon would be sporting that little ponytail with the ribbon - Bryan laughed and said, "We'll see".

In regards to the cast, Bryan was especially excited to land Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy/Beast. Nicholas was set for FURY ROAD, but their start date shifted which opened up his availability for FIRST CLASS. Also - Rose Byrne is playing Moira MacTaggert, I liked her in KNOWING. And I think she's fairly perfect for Moira. The cast list over on IMDB is correct (with the exception of the Rosamund Pike rumor).

Looks like filming will begin with Xavier at Oxford University in the 60s. And Bryan is excited that the film is going to have a much more international feel than the prior X-MEN movies.

We will see costumes in about a month or so. Hopefully, this calm some doubts. I will still wait until I see the script. But, I do feel a little better.

New Casting for X-Men First Class

Well, this is becoming something larger than Marvel itself.

The casting of Emma Frost has changed. Now January Jones is the White Queen and Miss Zoe Kravitz is Angel?

Deadline reports
20th Century Fox has rounded out the cast of X-Men: First Class, and the big surprise is that Mad Men star January Jones has been signed to play the role of Emma Frost, the gorgeous mutant with telepathic powers. At the same time, director Matthew Vaughn has set Zoe Kravitz to play Angel; Jason Flemyng will play Azazel, the father of Nightcrawler; Bill Milner to play the young version of Magneto (Michael Fassbender), and Morgan Lily to play the Young Raven. They join Fassbender, James McAvoy (Xavier), Nicholas Hoult (Beast) Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Caleb Landry Jones (Banshee), Lucas Till (Havoc), Edi Gathegi (Darwin), who round out the mutant contingent. Kevin Bacon is playing the villain, Rose Byrne will play McAvoy's love interest Moira MacTaggert, and Oliver Platt is playing The Man in Black. Production begins August 23 in London.

I'm still trying to figure this out. I guess this will be a Hell of a ride.

My Top 5 Other Mutants the X-Men: First Class movie could use

Well since they are putting everybody and their Mama's cousins up in this movie; I thought I could give them some other "mutants" to overdrive this flick.

Ratboy

Powder- I kinda thought that Powder was cute

Tina - She battled Jason and won

Laura Mars - She could've been Professor X's Assistant teacher for Psychic Arts

Manimal- He was the original Sam Merlotte

First Look: Thor, Odin and Loki

What do you think?

Mark Ruffalo is in Final Discussions to be The Hulk

Wow, this something new... Cutie Mark Ruffalo is in final talks to be The Hulk in The Avengers movie.

Deadline has the stuff:
Imagine the Hollywood actor whom you'd least expect to play The Incredible Hulk in The Avengers, and maybe, just maybe, you'd come up with the name of Mark Ruffalo. He's always been an actor's actor and is getting critical raves in Focus Features' The Kids Are All Right which oepned last weekend. But I've learned that he's now in late-stage discussions between Marvel and his brand-new agency United Talent to play this key member of The Avengers ensemble. Like Edward Norton, whom he'd be replacing, Ruffalo would bring real chops to the role. But, unlike Edward Norton, he wouldn't an on-set asshole.

My Concerns with the X-Men: First Class movie, so far

I'm start to worry about the X-Men: First Class film. It seems they are going for Twilight/Claire's crowd and leaving the comic book fans behind.

To give you some insight to my fears, here's a piece from io9:
We're nearing critical mass with all the casting rumors flying around right now, so let's see if we can't sort this out. First of all, Fox hasn't confirmed any of this, so at best we're talking about decent probabilities, but definitely not certainties.

So, let's see...
- Nicholas Hoult, who played the kid in About a Boy and more recently appeared as Eusebios in Clash of the Titans, is said to be playing Beast. That was the part Ben Walker was going to play before he dropped out. [Deadline]

- Aaron Johnson, who played Kick-Ass in Kick-Ass, is maybe reuniting with director Matthew Vaughn to play Cyclops. Or maybe not. One source says "this is one hundred percent locked at this point" and another says he definitely isn't appearing. [Ain't It Cool vs. Entertainment Weekly]

- Lucas Till, whom hopefully none of you remember from Hannah Montana: The Movie, is reportedly playing Havok, who is, among other things, the younger brother of Cyclops. He's sort of a minor character for an X-Men reboot, and people are speculating that this is another misdirection, a lot like that Willow rumor we reported earlier.

In that case, these obscure mutants are being used to mask the
real characters these actors are playing. Which could be the case, except the actress auditioning for Willow accurately described that character's powers, so... honestly, I don't know. All this second-guessing makes my head hurt. [EW again.]

- Finally, Caleb Landry Jones, who we previously mentioned is maybe playing Banshee, has been upgraded to quite probably playing Banshee. Of course, with all of this, nothing is official yet. [EW once more.]
With all of that, I have to wonder... What in Frak is going on? This doesn't seem like a X-Men movie, it's coming off like CW version of the horrid series, Mutant X.

So here are my concerns:
  1. Too many mutants. The first class should be about the original five, adding folks who didn't appear in the comic until 20 or 30 years later is ridic. Stick with the super 5 with a few folks like Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Mastermind running around.
  2. Why is the White Queen in this movie?
  3. There are many stories from the X-Men mythos, don't make up some mess like X-Men Origins- Wolverine.
  4. Willow's character is supposed to be Black, but the girl who may have the role is White.
  5. Don't make this about Magneto, please!
  6. Banshee is older than Scott and others. He should not be their age.
I'm sure there will be more concerns. And if my list reaches 30, I'm not seeing it.

Is this the X-Men: First Class' Emma Frost?

I think we may have our Emma Frost.
Deadline reports:
Alice Eve is now in negotiations to play Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class, the 20th Century Fox prequel that Matthew Vaughn will direct. Her power in the mutant universe is telepathy, and she was voted Hottest Comic Book Babe of 2005 in one poll. She started out as an X-Men nemesis and became an ally. Eve joins James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, previously set as lead mutants Xavier and Magneto. Also in the Marvel pantheon, Tommy Lee Jones has been confirmed to play Colonel Phillips in Captain America: The First Avenger, the Joe Johnston-directed Marvel Studios film that Paramount will distribute.
Not sure why Emma is in the movie. But I guess since Fox has screwed up the X-Men continuum, why not keep it going.

My Crazy Idea for a 3rd Batman Movie

The 3rd Batman movie is coming in 2 years. And I got to thinking, what I would do if I had to make this flick?

I thought about it and came up with a crazy plot. So, here is my idea for Batman Trois:
  • Batman has been absent for almost a year. Bruce is afraid of causing more harm to anyone and ponders the need for a Batman.
  • Crime is back up and the crime lords are battling for control of Gotham.
  • One crime lord (I'll call him, Bam) has a powerful string of hookers doing more than just selling sex. Some of thieves and some are hit girls. Selina Kyle is one of his best girls. However, she wants more out of life.
  • A new criminal is using riddles and deadly mind games to gain control of Gotham. This person is also becoming the new vigilante of the city. After eliminating a few major criminals, 'The Riddler' is gaining clout, sending a strong message to the others mobsters.
  • Meanwhile, Bruce has been watching all of this and decides to sneak back into the madness, but not as Batman. Bruce takes on another persona (Jack).
  • Jack/Bruce meets with Bam in hopes to get close to The Riddler. Later he meets Selina. They become close.
  • Bam wants to take The Riddler out. He plans on sending in his girls to do it. One of the girls (Kip), a 13 year-old who very eager to please. Selina is also one of the girls.
  • Selina is close to Kip and really doesn't want her in this line of the business.
  • One of Bam's girls is a double agent and rats him out. The Riddler sends in a team to take out Bam.
  • Bam, Kip and several girls are killed. Bruce and Selina barely escape the attack, however Bruce doesn't know if Selina survived. She does.
  • Bruce realizes The Riddler must be taken down, so he comes back as Batman.
  • The word gets out that Batman is back. Selina decides to go after The Riddler too, but as a someone else... The Catwoman.
  • Then the show really starts.
So that's a crazy idea I had. Nothing award winning, but I thought it could be fun. I've always liked the idea of Selina being from the streets and super tough. Also having a book/street smart Riddler. But it's just a crazy idea.

Jeremy Renner in final negotiations to be in "The Avengers" as Hawkeye

Hot Avengers News

Jeremy is in final negotiations to join The Avengers.

THR reports:

Renner will play the bow-and-arrow-carrying hero Hawkeye, who, while not one of the initial members of the team when it was created in the 1960s, became an integral member soon after when the misguided villain switched sides.

Renner will join Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Don Cheadle as War Machine.

I think is a good choice.
