Horror in Real Time

This is a story straight from the Lifetime think tank. I can't believe it's real.
A Lebanese pop star is brutally murdered in her luxury Dubai apartment, her throat slashed. Arrested in her death: One of Egypt's most politically connected businessmen, accused of paying $2 million to have her killed. The slaying of Suzanne Tamim has gone beyond a lurid crime story to something more serious -- a glimpse into the close links between Egypt's government and powerful business tycoons long viewed as above the law.
It is also exposing strains between societies like Egypt's, where wealth and political power increasingly go hand in hand, and Dubai, which recently launched a high-profile push against corruption.
People in the Arab world have long followed with fascination and moral clucking the tales of businessmen and politicians cavorting with actresses, belly-dancers and singers -- a sort of Hollywood Babylon in the conservative Muslim Middle East.
But even by those standards, the Tamim drama is a stunner. The 30-year-old singer, famed for her striking green eyes, was found dead in her Dubai apartment in July, with multiple stab wounds and a 20-centimeter (8 inch) slash across her throat.
This week, Egyptian authorities arrested real estate mogul Hisham Talaat Moustafa, said to be Tamim's former lover.
For many, the surprise wasn't Moustafa's alleged involvement -- but his arrest.
Egyptians are widely convinced their government won't touch influential businessmen. When Moustafa's name first appeared in media reports weeks ago, he denied a role and complained on Egyptian television that the rumors hurt the economy. The government promptly banned press reports on the murder, suggesting that Moustafa was off-limits.
My heart goes out to her family and fans.

BET, Your Days Are Numbered

Boy, the times have changed. HIP-hop mogul Percy Miller, or Master P, if you're nasty is launching a family-friendly cable network called, Better Black Television.
This network is suppose to pick up where BET failed and possibly reshape the Black image that is somewhat being destroyed. BBTV, set to launch in 2009. The programming will be will be a wide range of scripted, unscripted and news pieces and "responsible hip-hop music and videos."
And this is not a joke, apparently it is very serious. In fact, the advisory board includes Oscar winner Denzel Washington, NBA player Derek Anderson and hip-hop pioneer DJ Kool Herc.
Percy Miller said this: "I believe that there is a market in our community for a new diverse network that provides a new brand of superior programming that caters to all aspects of television, from reality to original programming."
Well you do your thing Percy, believe me, we'll be watching.

Gay Pimping Website CEO For McCain

People are upset with the owner of MANHUNT supporting McCain. In fact several of them are canceling their memberships. Towleroad posted the an automatic follow up to a former member:
Dear Sir, We are always happy to hear from our members, thank you for taking the time to express your concerns. The subject that you have brought to our attention is a personal matter and is not representative of MANHUNT. We thank you for your understanding.
Really, child cheese.
not representative of MANHUNT? Oh yes it is, honey. It's not just a representative, it's the owner! It's the owner that supports the very person that does not support us. Yes, Obama doesn't support gay marriage, but he's still reaching out to us.
To know that Jonathan Crutchley supports McCain sends a strong message out there. I feel that this is a slap in the face of our community. To create a site that support gay liaisons and then sponsor a candidate and party that would leave us to burn just doesn't make sense.
Many of MANHUNT's folks feel betrayed. And would too, if I thought the creators of this site was in my best interests. Maybe this is a good thing because MANHUNT isn't the best place to go for real gay socializing. There are other sites to go to that are cute and not so vain in its format. So could this be a weird blessing in disguise. Or, it could be an interesting look at the people in our "neighborhood".

Randomness on CNN's Black in America

I watched this special last week with no expectations. I thought I knew the issues, but I was wrong. The issues are worse than I thought and the job isn't close to being done. The issues of Black women and men are at times, one in the same, or a part of each others' dilemmas.
We are in crisis and it seems it's not changing. Black men are trying to be men through foolish images and Black women are left with a few options, let alone opportunities. One of their biggest and fast paying gig is a video vixen, and that comes with sexism and mess.
And the statistics are the ones that hurt.
- 45 percent of black women in America have never been married, compared with 23 percent of white women, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey in 2006.
- Black women outnumber black men almost 2-to-1 in higher education. But white women are also surpassing white men in college enrollment and completion, according to the National Center on Education Statistics.
- There is more Black Men in jail than in college.
- Many Black kids drop out of school

A Secret a Day Keeps the Doctor Away

A question to the gay readers. When you go to the doctor's office and he/she ask you personal questions, are you answering them truthfully or to the best of your knowledge?
Well according to this article, a lot folks are not telling the Doc everything.
- A survey of 452 New York City men who had had sex with other men within the past year found that 39 percent had not disclosed their sexual orientation to their doctors.
- While 78 percent of the men who had sex with men and identified themselves as homosexual said they had discussed their sexuality with their doctors, none of the men who had sex with men but identified themselves as bisexual had told their doctors.
- 60 percent of black men who had sex with other men said they had not discussed their sex lives with their doctors, compared with 48 percent of Hispanic men, 47 percent of Asian men and 19 percent of white men.
- Men who were 28 or older were more like than younger men (69 percent vs. 52 percent) to be out to their providers. Those born in the United States were more likely than immigrant men to disclose their practices, and those who were better educated disclosed at higher rates than the less educated.

Be all that you can be, including gay and lesbian

California-based research center released a study that proves "don't ask, don't tell" is truly bogus. The study was conducted by four retired military officers found out the gays in the armed forces are unlikely to undermine the ability to fight and win.
According to the officers, "Evidence shows that allowing gays and lesbians to serve openly is unlikely to pose any significant risk to morale, good order, discipline or cohesion."
To support their study, the panel looks to the British and Israeli military, where it says gay people serve openly and it's doesn't affect the morale or the cohesiveness of the soldiers.
I always thought it wouldn't matter. I mean, when bullets are flying and bombs are dropping, I think homosexuality is the last thing on people's mind. But you never know.
Attack the gays, if you want to win the election, McCain.

During an appearance on Fox News, Repub political commentator and fool of the week, Fred Barnes is advising John McCain to exploit gay issues as a strategy if he wants to beat Obama.
Fred, Fred, Fred don't you get it. Fighting us is like fighting clouds, you will never reach us or touch us. For every attack, we come back. Besides, people are too broke, out of gas, and fighting to keep their homes to care about us. And newsflash Barney, gay people are not raising gas prices and screwing up the economy.
To follow that empty battle will get you nowhere, so Barnes, advise yourself to check the facts and shut it up.

In Arizona?

My former place of employment and one year nightmare state has shocked me.
In the AZ central:
A measure to place a constitutional ban on gay marriage on the fall ballot was narrowly voted down in the state Senate on Wednesday, but the referendum could still come back for a revote in the final days of the legislative session.
It's a start, but who knows. That state was an eye opening experience for me. I've never been exposed to such foolishness in my life. And I'm from Tennessee. So much ignorance, racism, and sexist views ran like running water, which they barely have. But, maybe things are changing up in the Sun-dried state.

Chinese is the New Black...seriously and literally

Yahoo News teased me with header about the Chinese in South African are now, considered Black. So I thought, that's something you don't hear everyday. I searched the nets until I found the article.
Turns out, a South African high court reclassified Chinese-South Africans as “black,” which includes black Africans, Indians and others who were subject to discrimination under apartheid. Also the "newly named Black people" will receive benefits from affirmative action policies aimed to end the mess of apartheid.
This is nothing new to them, in fact, it's been done before (see article hidden in the title). But could imagine if this happened here? Oh my goodness, it would be smoke in the city. If the courts changed the race classifications of a group, it could be WWIII or a great shift in cultural knowledge. But judging from my Southern folks, I doubt there would be any positive cultural shifting going on.

Will and Grace: The Science Project

Gay men and straight women think alike. That's nothing new, right? I mean, I've always known about that considering all my females friends in high school and my love for Dynasty, Days of Our Lives, and other dramas. But a new study confirms that notion to some degree.
Researchers wrote in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, that gay men and straight women share some characteristics in the area of the brain accountable for anxiety, mood, and emotion. Explains a lot doesn't it.
And they also found similar stuff in lesbians and straight men. In some ways this isn't a surprise, but it's interesting to think about science decoding some of the mysteries of our sexuality and gender. Soon, we will know why many gay men love musicals, Madonna, and cocktails.
