Taking it to the Streets...in South Central!

This is horrible, and I know I'm bad for this, but I would love to see how it goes. If we continue to protest about Prop 8, we need to take it to South Central and East LA. Home of Dr. Dre, Cheech, N.W.A., $1 tacos, Yo-Yo, and Eazy E.

Why? Well, that's where most of Yes for Prop 8 votes came from. If we're going to hit the target, we need to go into the communities that wouldn't invite us for dinner. However, I almost doubt that a gaggle of twinks will come to Compton or Crenshaw. But you never know, there could be a new historic riot on the way.

But let's hope not.

Real Problem/Rant on Poor Education

Living in L.A., we forget about the real people and the children. Reading articles like this reminds me about the issues our children are facing in a society caught up in rich teens and empty campaign promises. Schools are failing our children, if it's not in a rich district, it doesn't matter. Schools in the poor areas are hanging on by string, one particular is Jefferson High, which is featured in the article (highlighted below).

In Jefferson High, students are losing hope in school
. 58 percent of these students, nearly six out of 10 students, drop out. They leave to either join a gang, work, or they just don't want to be there. But what's happening there that making kids walk?

It's sad and disheartening. I feel that this is one of the issues that gets pushed aside for anti-gay stuff and other things that really don't matter.

Education is key, we need to get our schools back on track and our kids believing in their futures again. That's one of the true moral dilemmas in our country.

Horror in Real Time

In my own city, a serial killer is on the loose. Detectives believe this person has killed at least 11 people, many of them prostitutes, over a 23-year period.

Los Angeles Police Deputy Chief Charlie Beck said DNA evidence and ballistics tests have convinced detectives that the same killer is connected to the slayings in Los Angeles and Inglewood.

The victims were prostitutes or drug users who were sexually assaulted and then shot and dumped in alleyways or inside dumpsters, police said.

The most recent killing -- in January 2007 -- was tied exclusively to DNA analysis to another case after 13 years. However, detectives have not been able to identify the killer through state or federal DNA databases of convicted felons.

So they are still out here

Noah's Arc lied!

Since I've been in L.A., I have yet to see a vibrant Black gay community. We have a couple of clubs, but I haven't seen anything else. Before I moved here, I heard great things about L.A. And after watching Noah's Arc, I hoped to see a strong community of color. Well, that hasn't happened yet.

I've been to the club, Catch One, and to a celebration of black queens, which no one showed up. I haven't heard or seen much from the gays of color. I know they're here, but where? I haven't given up, but goodness, where's the party? Besides the clubs and West Hollywood. There's got to be a ball, poetry group, book club, or a Black writers society somewhere in this seedy town.

A legend

Today on Rodeo Drive, I saw Stan Lee! I saw Stan Lee in Beverly Hills. I should have said something, but I didn't. I didn't want to bother him.
Maybe next time.
