Someone lay a Hand on Arkansas!

In Arkansas, they have successfully added the banning gays and lesbians from becoming foster parents or adopting on the November ballot. At the same time, they also added the banning unmarried couples from adopting as well.

"Arkansas needs to affirm the importance of married mothers and fathers," Family Council President Jerry Cox said. "We need to publicly affirm the gold standard of rearing children whenever we can. The state standard should be as close to that gold standard of married mom and dad homes as possible."

Well Jerry Cox-in-a-box, it's not your will to do so. Just who do you think you are determining who will raise a child. I feel like reality is never considered in these things. The truth is marriage does not equal a perfect family. In fact, many screwed up kids come from married mothers and fathers. It's absurd to think otherwise.

But all hope isn't lost. Arkansas Families First is campaigning against the measure and may file a lawsuit to keep it off the ballot. The group has found numerous signatures that should have been rejected by the state as invalid and that they challenge the constitutionality of the measure.

So we will see what happens next, I will be watching.

Very backward ruling, and one that's obviously authored by a collective of backward archaic thinkers. It's 2008, & this is sad. Just plain sad.

One.

Perhaps, a fist?! ;-)

Will any of these backward thinking cretins ever make it into this century?!

WTF, 'the gold standard'?? What does that even mean?!

Sure, it would be great if we could all live in perfect families and have perfect lives and everything could be just perfect. (Of course, this would not be at all boring in any way. Ahem.) But can anyone really be dumb enough to think that that will ever actually happen??

I understand that some people out there don't think gay people should raise children. I don't understand why they think so, but I accept that they do feel that way. Ignorant as their opinion may be. But how can anyone think that the other option's better?? Cause that's where that standpoint leaves us. Option number one: be raised by a couple of gays who will give love and support and discipline and rules and a house to live in and clothes to wear and food to eat, because they love you and want to take the best possible care of you, or option number two: live in an institution where your caregivers are paid a wage to look after you. If those are the options, then ... It just makes me so mad. How can anyone not agree that we all, in every country, ought to do everything we can to give every child a real home, and that that can only be beneficial to our societies in the long run??

OK, rant over now. Hope it made sense. :-)
