The age factor

Does age really matter when it comes to dating? I hear about this all the time, and I mean all the time. Either if a guy’s too young, the other guy is trying to feel young or suffering from a mid-life crisis. Or if the guy is older, then he’s a sugar daddy or the younger guy has daddy issues.

In my time, I’ve dated both and luckily, didn’t fall in any of those situations. I did notice a difference, mostly from their experiences due to their age and self-awareness. Now, I know those were my experiences and everyone else’s is very different. But the reality is some people do experience the madness of dating over and underage.

Just the other day, I came across some interesting dating ads for gay guys. Some of them were very open to dating guys who were older or younger, and some were very specific. For example, there was a guy willing to be a sugar daddy and there was a 19 year-old guy looking for a older sugar daddy around 55 years old. Then there are the guys that need a younger guy so they can feel young. I can’t tell how many times I see this in West Hollywood. I was told those are usually escorts, but I wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

But, I can’t help to wonder about the draw to the older or younger male. When I was a teenager, I fantasized more about my PE teachers than my fellow classmates. Then in my 20’s I wanted guys my own age, and now in my 30’s, I find myself with partner that’s six years younger than me. I didn’t set out to get a younger man, but it happened. However, when I see the actor, T.R Knight, who is 35 with his 19 year-old college boyfriend, I take a second and judgmental look. Why? I don’t know really. I guess when I think about myself at 19 and now at 34, I realize there’s a huge difference. But I don’t know them to judge them. There is probably more than meets the eye. I couldn’t see myself dating a late teen, but that’s me. Love has no age limit, and lust don’t either. But…well it just interesting because, there are so many answers to this notion. I’m curious to know what others think about this.
