Hera Help Us...More X-Men Spinoffs

I don't if I should laugh or cry. I wish I knew how this madness worked, but I guess money talks and...well y'all know the rest.

Here's the breaks
Twentieth Century Fox has begun development on "Deadpool," an "X-Men" spinoff that will be crafted as a star vehicle for Ryan Reynolds, who played the character in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine."

The character is one of the most popular in Marvel Comics' X-Men universe. Deadpool is Wade Wilson, a mercenary who, dying of cancer, submits himself to the Weapon X genetic alteration experiment and emerges as an indestructible semi-sane anti-hero. Reynolds seemed destined to play the character. In one reference in the Marvel Comics, Deadpool is described as a mix between "a Shar Pei and Ryan Reynolds."

Fox is also in the formative stages of a "Wolverine" sequel that will encompass the samurai storyline that was hinted at as Wolverine sat in a bar in Japan as the film concluded (Daily Variety, May 4).

2012...Things will be back to normal (Marvel takes it all back). Am I sure I want to be in this field?

To Fox Studios...No More Mutants (movies)

Warning...Rant Ahead

Wolvie did well this weekend, making close to 90 million. And now folks in Hollyhell are thinking about the next mutant movie.

However, I'm thinking... What is the next Mutant Massacre?

If y'all don't know, I'm a huge, huge comic book fan; been in it since I was 14. The stories, the heroes, the villains and the art has always been a part of my life. So when I see a movie of my favorite comic books, I want them to be the best.

But what do we get? Movies for dumb people...yes I said it. The stories that has created epic tales and legends are reduced to explosions, bad acting, overdose of CGI and scantly clad girls. I know these movies have to make money, but please don't insult me with overpacked plots and silly actors.

If folks took the time to tell the story so many geeks fell in love with, we will keep coming back. I think about Joss writing Buffy and how loyal we are several years after the show was over. How Batman Returns and Dark Knight kept fans in awe and gave Heath an Oscar. That's the type of product we would like to see in all Comic Book flicks.

But when we get crap like Daredevil, Ghost Rider, Elektra, Transformers, Fantastic Four, The Spirit, X-Men 3, Catwoman and Wolverine, it just breaks my heart. These movies are insulting to many of us who have major respect for the characters. It almost hurts to see any movie relating to anything geeky.

So to end my rant, I beg the Gods for these things:

  1. NO MORE MUTANTS (movies that is, unless it's by Marvel Studios)
  2. Let the writers of the comic WRITE THE FRAKKING MOVIE and they should pick the director.
  3. Stop selling the comic book rights to foolish studios who will abuse the frak out of it.
  4. Stick to the story. Don't change it up, if Chris Claremont or Alan Moore didn't go there, then neither should some overzealous writer.
  5. Do Not use Megan Fox in anything!
  6. If the story is too big (X-Men 3/Pheonix saga), do it in cartoon style.
  7. No more CW style comic book shows (Birds of Prey will always haunt me)
Okay...I feel a little better now

X-Men Origins: Storm?

Well, after the big opening of Wolvie, someone else is thinking it's her time to have a movie.

Halle who played weather-controlling mutant Storm in the first three films, would love to return to the franchise with her own X-Men Origins picture.

"I think that would be great. Storm deserves her own movie - if I can still fit into the suit," she said.

Interesting...Do you think it would work?

Possible Wolverine Movie ideas?

To be honest, I don't care about Wolvie's past. It's long, crazy, complicated and a movie may never do it justice. And what was put together was a hot mess.

However, if I had a shot at this I would pose these ideas as possible storylines.

  • I would have used the 1st Wolverine mini-series as a possible plot. The story was excellent and it showcased many sides of Logan. Also we could have been introduced to the Silver Samurai, Mariko, and Yukio.
  • Madripoor would have been a great place to send Wolvie. This crime city is supposedly located in the Southeast Asian island port nations. It's divided between rich and glitzy Hightown and poor, crime-ridden Lowtown. A lot of things went down in that town and it would have a perfect setting for a movie. Wolvie could have crossed paths with the crimelord Nguyen Ngoc Coy and his famous niece, Karma. Viper, Tyger Tiger would be interesting folks and fun villains like Roughhouse and Bloodscream could have spiced up the flick.
  • If they had to deal with Wolvie's past, the Omega Red origin (X-Men issue 4-7) would have been fun. Sabertooth was there so he would have a purpose. Also we would have some interesting characters like Matsu'o Tsurayaba, Baron von Strucker and his twins/Fernis, Maverick, Omega Red and the Hand. I think the Hand would have been neat to see.

My Bullet Point Wolvie Review

So the Wolverine movie...What do I say after that 2 hours of mashed up images?

I will review this movie in bullet points, pros and cons (SPOILERS AHEAD)

Pros
  • The guys are HOT! Hugh, Ryan, Liev, Taylor, Daniel (in fact, Liev brought the sexy in his version of Sabertooth)
  • Some of the action was good...just some.
  • We saw Hugh's butt and he wore tight jeans a lot.
Cons
  • The plot made no sense, it completely crapped on Wolverine's past.
  • The 1st 30 minutes were a blur of storylines that just confused everyone.
  • There were no mention of Wolvie's Asian past.
  • Too many explosions.
  • They took too many liberties with the characters. Gambit's powers and The Blob's powers were remixed and overhauled. Emma Frost's diamond shell is a secondary mutation. It was too much.
  • Silver Fox and Emma Frost were sisters...WTF?
  • They never talked about the Wolvie's healing factor.
  • The fight scenes were predicable.
  • Fox Studios made this mess.
  • Sabertooth could have done more, he was boring, hot, but boring.
The movie was better than X-Men 3, but by an inch. The folks at Fox should stop and look at the mess they are making with Marvel Comics. I am so glad that Marvel Studios take back the mutants in 2012.

So the movie was bad, but you may to see it to believe it.
