In Alabama: Senate votes to eliminate marriage licenses
Alabama is a mess!
The Alabama Senate voted to stop giving out state-issued marriage licenses all together. What? The vote was 23-3, and if legal, folks will have to file a form recording their marriage rather than the county probate offices giving them licenses.
I don't know why they think this is necessary. It seems for problematic than anything. But these fools can't accept that marriage equality is real. Looking at this make you realize that they will do anything to avoid following the law of the land

Alabama Supreme Court drops Petitions opposing Marriage Equality
Good news in Alabama!
The Alabama Supreme Court tossed out petitions by the Alabama Policy Institute, the Alabama Citizens Action Program and Elmore County's probate judge who claimed the Obergefell case had no effect of their UNCONSTITUTIONAL gay marriage ban.
After the loss, Alabama Policy Institute's attorney said they're done fighting the law. However, Roy Moore... Chile, he's still in denial. He thinks the ban is alive and kicking.
In his response, this fool wrote:
"Today this Court by order dismisses all pending motions and petitions and issues the certificate of judgment in this case. That action does not disturb the existing March orders in this case or the Court's holding therein that the Sanctity of Marriage Amendment, ... and the Alabama Marriage Protection Act, § 30-1-9, Ala. Code 1975, are constitutional," he states. Based upon arguments of "love," "commitment," and "equal dignity" for same-sex couples, five lawyers, as Chief Justice Roberts so aptly describes the Obergefell majority, have declared a new social policy for the entire country. In reality, the Obergefell majority presumes to amend the United States Constitution to create a right stated nowhere therein. That is a lawless act."Girl, you lost. You lost

Interesting Quote: Montgomery County Probate Judge Steven Reed
"I think he has jumped the shark at this point. I think it sets a bad example when the chief justice behaves like this. We don't get to pick and choose what laws we follow. ... If he can't follow those laws he ought to step down."Montgomery County Probate Judge Steven Reed on Roy Moore's foolishness.

In Alabama: Roy Moore issues order Blocking Same-Sex Marriage Licenses
This fool is still trying it.
Note this is NOT AL Supreme Court order, but issued in Moore's capacity as "Administrative Head of the Unified Judicial System of Alabama"— Equality Case Files (@EQCF) January 6, 2016He's issuing an administrative order because of the confusion from the U.S. Supreme Court case of Obergefell vs. Hodges. Confusion? Girl, there's no confusion at all, but anywho, he writes:
"Many probate judges are issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples in accordance with Obergefell; others are issuing marriage licenses only to couples of the opposite gender or have ceased issuing all marriage licenses."He also stated:
"Until further decision by the Alabama Supreme Court, the existing orders of the Alabama Supreme Court that Alabama probate judges have a ministerial duty not to issue any marriage license contrary to the Alabama Sanctity of Marriage Amendment or the Alabama Marriage Protection Act remain in full force and effect."Please read on Equality Case Files

Roy Moore orders Alabama judges to not issue Same-Sex Marriage licenses for 25 Days
Just when you thought Roy Moore was down, he quickly popped up with new mess to share. He's stalling marriage equality in the Alabama for 25 days.
Here's more AL.com:
Moore said his view of the order is that the U.S. Supreme Court ruling on Friday ending the gay marriage order is stalled in Alabama. You can read the ruling after the jump
Seven of the nine justices concurred with the order. Only Moore and Supreme Court Justice Greg Shaw joined Moore did not sign on.
"I am not real clear what it's saying .. it's very unclear," Jefferson County Probate Judge Sherri Friday said. At this moment, they are still issuing licenses to same-sex couples as her attorneys review the order.
Part of the order, Friday said, states parts of the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that were appealable for rehearing.
The order stems another issued by the state supreme court in March.
"As it has done for approximately two centuries, Alabama law allows for 'marriage' between only one man and one woman," the order issued in March stated. "Alabama probate judges have a ministerial duty not to issue any marriage license contrary to this law. Nothing in the United States Constitution alters or overrides this duty."
That order, called a writ of mandamus, had been requested by the Alabama Policy Institute and the Alabama Citizens Action Program in February.

Alabama Supreme Court halts Gay Marriage
Alabama, I swear!
Tonight, the state Supreme Court put a stop on gay marriage!
NPR reports
Tonight, the state Supreme Court put a stop on gay marriage!
NPR reports
In a 134-page opinion, seven of the nine justices said the U.S. Constitution "does not require one definition of marriage."Read the opinion
"As it has done for approximately two centuries, Alabama law allows for 'marriage' between only one man and one woman," the court wrote. "Alabama probate judges have a ministerial duty not to issue any marriage license contrary to this law. Nothing in the United States Constitution alters or overrides this duty."
Of course the big conflict here is that a U.S. District Court judge struck down Alabama's ban on gay marriage. That was appealed, but the Supreme Court refused to put a hold on that ruling while it decides on the issue of same-sex marriage itself.
This means that that today's ruling from the Alabama Supreme Court throws the state into conflict with the federal judiciary. Remember, it was Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore who issued a similar order in February.
U.S. District Court Judge Callie Granade, who struck down gay marriage in the state, said that probate judges should should follow her order, not that of the chief justice.
Moore recused himself from Tuesday's ruling.

White Supremacists lend a hand to the "Stop Gay Marriage in Alabama" Rally
Over the weekend about 300 people got together at the Alabama's State Capitol to rally against gay marriage.
Sanctity of Marriage Alabama held this event, but what was noted by JoeMyGod was another group that was present... League Of The South.
This group is pretty much a hate group. Here's a description from SPLC
The League of the South is a neo-Confederate group that advocates for a second Southern secession and a society dominated by “European Americans.” The league believes the “godly” nation it wants to form should be run by an “Anglo-Celtic” (read: white) elite that would establish a Christian theocratic state and politically dominate blacks and other minorities. Originally founded by a group that included many Southern university professors, the group lost its Ph.D.s as it became more explicitly racist. The league denounces the federal government and northern and coastal states as part of “the Empire,” a materialist and anti-religious society. This group has an interesting history and with them publicly supporting Roy Moore and Sanctity of Marriage Alabama, it will only go downhill from there.

Alabama Judge threatens to Abolish Marriages altogether
The craziness in Alabama continues to grow.
Justice Glenn Murdock wrote a document that could get rid of marriages all together.
Think Progress reports:

Justice Glenn Murdock wrote a document that could get rid of marriages all together.
Think Progress reports:
Justice Murdock’s opinion is attached to a brief order from the state supreme court as a whole declining to offer further guidance to Alabama probate judges regarding whether they must comply with a federal court order holding that same-sex couples are entitled to the same marriage rights as straight couples. In a brief opinion concurring in that order, Murdock hints that, if this federal court order is permitted to stand, then his own court should strike down all marriages within the state of Alabama.
Murdock suggests that, had the state legislature known that its decision to exclude gay couples from the right to marry was unconstitutional, it might have preferred not to permit anyone to be married in the state of Alabama. This potential preference for no marriages over equality matters, according to Justice Murdock, because of a prior state supreme court decision holding that, when part of a state law is struck down, the law may be declared “wholly void” if “the invalid portion is so important to the general plan and operation of the law in its entirety as reasonably to lead to the conclusion that it would not have been adopted if the legislature had perceived the invalidity of the part so held to be unconstitutional.”

Federal Judge orders Mobile County Judge to Issue Gay Marriage Licenses
Moments ago, U.S. District Court Judge Callie Granade issued an order to Mobile County, Alabama probate judge Don Davis to get off his ass, and start giving marriage licenses to gay couples.
Don Davis was one of the defiant judges who wasn't issuing gay marriage licenses, now he has no choice.

Liberty Counsel begs Alabama Supreme Court to Stop Gay Marriage
From their broke ass press release:
Today, Liberty Counsel is asking the Alabama Supreme Court to join Chief Justice Moore in ordering all probate judges to refrain from recognizing marriage inconsistent with the Alabama Constitution, namely same-sex marriage licenses. Here's their petition
Liberty Counsel’s petition is in response to a US District Court ruling late Monday afternoon in a contempt case against the Honorable Don Davis. When the probate judge followed the law and did not issue same-sex marriage licenses, homosexual couples asked Judge Granade to hold Judge Davis in contempt. The US District Court agreed with Chief Justice Moore and ruled that the federal court injunction does not apply to any of the probate judges.

The KKK issues ‘Call To Arms’ over Marriage Equality in Alabama
This is the 60s all over again!
The KKK issued this statement
The Mississippi Klan salutes Alabama's chief justice Roy Moore, for refusing to bow to the yoke of Federal tyranny. The Feds have no authority over individual States marriage laws. The fudgepackers from Hollywood and all major news networks are in shock that the good people from the heart of Dixie are resisting their Imperialist, Communist Homosexual agenda! This proves that the South has a long way to go.
Alabama has a Constitutional amendment, that clearly says marriage is defined as being between a man and a woman. But much as they have since the 2nd war for independence was lost in 1865, the Federal Government by way of it's foreign masters seems set to push this abomination, on the God fearing people of Alabama. Will they send Jack Booted thugs to enforce it? Remains to be seen, but a simple study of history will show they once burned, destroyed and looted the state of Alabama. Georgia was burned almost to the ground, and in our state, Meridian Mississippi was destroyed by blue bellied sledgehammers in one day.
We call upon all Klansman and White Southern Nationalist to help in the massive protest's coming, Not by wearing your colors, but by joining in with the Christian community's protests that are surly coming against tyranical Federal judges. We have made the decision that we don't want to distract attention away from the issue, as anytime the Klan rides, we are made the issue by the zionist controlled media. Members are encouraged to lend a hand, make signs, recruit etc., but leave any insignia, colors, shirts etc at the house. We want to infiltrate these protests and make sure they are kept running in military fashion and not bullied by the outside agitators.
Let today be the day, that the outside forces that have ruled this nation since the end of the War of Northern Aggression be given notice, "The God fearing White man will no longer stand for your immorality, your Illegal unjust judges and laws. Your attempts to turn us into a third world cesspool must be defeated. Unlike the 1950's and 60's we see you clearly for the enemy you are. Until we drive the spear of God and truth through your lying cold black hearts, the Klan will leave the light on for you."

In Mobile, Alabama: Couples file Emergency Motion to Force Probate Judge to Issue Marriage Licenses
The gay marriage battle continues in Alabama.
Four same-sex couples have asked Federal Judge Callie V. S. Granade to force Mobile County Probate Judge Don Davis to do his f*cking job! They demand for Davis to issue marriage licenses.
Here's more:
In their request to Judge Granade, the couples explained that each of them appeared at the Davis’s Mobile offices and were denied marriage licenses. The couples’ request explains that they are suffering serious harm each day that they continue to be excluded from marriage.
The Alabama couples are James Strawser and John Humphrey—who previously obtained a ruling from Judge Granade declaring that Alabama’s exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage is unconstitutional—and Meredith Miller and Anna Lisa Carmichael, Robert Povilat and Milton Persinger, and Kristy Simmons and Marshay Safford. The couples are represented by the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR), Birmingham attorney Heather Fann, and the ACLU of Alabama.
Said NCLR Legal Director Shannon P. Minter: “While many same-sex couples in Alabama were able to marry today, many others were denied that basic freedom. We are hopeful that a ruling on this motion will provide clarity regarding the obligations of probate judges across the state and correct the misunderstanding generated by Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore, who has erroneously instructed those judges not to comply with the requirements of the federal Constitution. We are confident that all Alabamians, regardless of where in the state they live, will soon enjoy the freedom to marry.”
This is getting out of hand. Over 40 counties are denying same-sex couples the right to marry. Time to sue these bastards!

Brian Brown whines about Alabama
From his email
"A majority of the Supreme Court has cast disrepute on the impartiality of the Court by refusing to follow previous protocol and issue a stay of a lower court ruling while it is being considered by the Court. The issues in play are currently under review by the Supreme Court, and allowing a lower court ruling that overturns a state marriage amendment adopted by over 80% of voters is reckless and undermines the integrity of the Court. We call on the people of Alabama to continue to enforce their state marriage laws. A single federal judge does not have the authority to overturn a state marriage amendment and the people of Alabama should refuse to go along with this order. We commend Alabama Supreme Court Justice Ray Moore for ordering state probate judges, who are responsible for issuing marriage licenses, to enforce state law limiting marriage to one man and one woman and to refuse to issue licenses that violate state law. These probate judges have sworn an oath to the people of Alabama and they must honor their oath to the people they serve."

READ: Alabama's Gov. Bentley statement over Issuance of Same Sex Marriage Licenses
“The issue of same sex marriage will be finally decided by the U.S. Supreme Court later this year,” Governor Robert Bentley said. “I have great respect for the legal process, and the protections that the law provides for our people. I am disappointed that a single Federal court judge disregarded the vote of the Alabama people to define marriage as between a man and woman.
“I agree with the dissenting opinion from U.S. Supreme Court Justices Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia when they stated, ‘Today’s decision represents yet another example of this Court’s cavalier attitude toward the States. Over the past few months, the Court has repeatedly denied stays of lower court judgments enjoining the enforcement of state laws on questionable constitutional grounds.’
“This issue has created confusion with conflicting direction for Probate Judges in Alabama. Probate Judges have a unique responsibility in our state, and I support them. I will not take any action against Probate Judges, which would only serve to further complicate this issue.
“We will follow the rule of law in Alabama, and allow the issue of same sex marriage to be worked out through the proper legal channels.”
