My Diana Prince day job

My secret identity is an administrator at USC. I get to work with the most talented students in nation. My job allows me to build and strengthen leadership within students. I also work with our distinguished faculty here on our campus. I'm very fortunate to be at this stage in my career. The next step is possibly a director in something within Student Affairs.

It's funny to think how I fell into this career. In 1995, I was asked to be an RA and now I'm still in the biz. I never get tired working in a college setting. Who knows, I may be a Dean...or a superhero divo mega in the near future.

This is the frame story for the entire Books of Blood series. A psychic researcher, Mary Florescu, has employed a quack medium named Simon McNeal to investigate a haunted house. Alone in an upstairs room, McNeal at first fakes visions, but then the ghosts really do come for him. They attack him and carve words in his flesh, and these words, claims the narrator, form the rest of the stories, stories written on a literal, living Book of Blood.

Diva of Dance

I was her biggest fan. I watched her as a kid and she made me want to dance. Her name is Darcel Wynne and she was on Solid Gold and in Xanadu. I used to copy every dance move she did. My cousins always told me to stop dancing like her, but I didn't care. She was my muse. You can see her in clips of Solid Gold on youtube. This brings back good memories from my crazy childhood.

Vote for Confusion '08

Sometimes I get lost in the news about Clinton and Obama. It feels that they are the only two running for office with all the hype they get. But recently, I am seeing this interesting pattern about the voters and their reasoning, for a lack of a better word.

I think there's something to be said about the beliefs of the White and Latino working-class. According to AP-Yahoo poll shows less educated whites present a problem to Obama in part because of who they are. Besides being poorer, they tend to be older than white college graduates — and Clinton has done strongly with older white voters. Also in the exit polls, one in five of the white voters who haven't completed college said race was an important factor in choosing a candidate, about double the number of white college graduates who said so. Eight in 10 of them voted for Clinton over Obama, and only about half said they would vote for Obama over McCain in November.

And the same with Latino voters, however when asked about their reasons why they won't vote for Obama the answer was fascinating. They(or a good chunk of them) think he will only care about the black folks and leave them behind. I almost find that amusing since a large number of them voted for Bush and he did so much for them, and McCain is practically building a fence to keep them out.

I don't get it, I don't understand the logic. I feel that the working-class people suffer the most and yet, it seems their ignorance gets in the way of their logical thinking. I don't want to say that, but that's how it feels. I also feel classist, due to my education and my income, for believing this sometimes. But why is race such a huge factor, why do the less educated folks seem to not get it, and why does everyone suffer when they don't get it. I know I sound like a hater, but it just baffles me. They tend to hold on to issues that are very minor, like in this statement:

"It's the stuff about his preacher ... and the thing he said about Pennsylvania towns, how they turn to religion," Keith Wolfe, 41, a supermarket food stocker from Parkville, Md., said in a follow-up interview. "I don't think he'd be a really good leader."

I'm sorry Keith, those issues are nothing to be overly concern with. Rev. Wright can't do anything to this country. And he's nothing compared to the phony preachers we endured all this years, including the scandals and embezzlement. Then the statement about the guns and religion is the harsh truth. I realized that most people hate hearing the truth about themselves. My mama told me that the hardest thing to do is to look into the the mirror. That what Obama did, he just held the mirror up to the faces of the working class. Hillary did it to, only she used the truth against them.

Face it, people, it's time to challenge yourselves. Don't hate on Obama because he told you the truth. Own it, accept it. I lived in the South for most of my life, and saw how people turn to faith and guns for safety and security. My Grandmama bought my mama and my aunts guns, and she had a pistol and a rifle. It's hard to think about losing the election again, because people are too blind to face their own ignorance and fears. It's almost selfish and yet, another harsh look at our reality. Ignorance is bliss and very powerful. And it can cost us everything.

Iron Bad Boy

I normally don't like Iron Man. I don't read his comic and I think of him as a prick. But the movie was great!! It was different than most big action movies, it was a solid story. Robby Rob played Tony Stark to a T. His was really good and very sexy. I found myself crushing on him as he walked around shirtless. But nevertheless, the movie was great. I highly recommend it.

And if you haven't seen it and plan to see it soon, stay until the very end.

Skip Wright, Y'all need to think about Hagee!

So Rev. Wright has his beliefs and opinions, but at least he's not spreading hate like peanut butter. However, John Hagee does.

McCain's secret lover has said some "wonderful things as well. I was reading www.openleft.com, and found several interesting quotes like:

"Do you know the difference between a woman with PMS and a snarling Doberman pinscher? The answer is lipstick. Do you know the difference between a terrorist and a woman with PMS? You can negotiate with a terrorist."

"The Quran teaches that [all Muslims have a mandate to kill Christians and Jews]. Yes, it teaches that very clearly."

"I believe that the Hurricane Katrina was, in fact, the judgment of God against the city of New Orleans...I believe that New Orleans had a level of sin that was offensive to God, and they are -- were recipients of the judgment of God for that...There was to be a homosexual parade there on the Monday that the Katrina came. And the promise of that parade was that it was going to reach a level of sexuality never demonstrated before in any of the other Gay Pride parades.... The Bible teaches that when you violate the law of God, that God brings punishment sometimes before the day of judgment."

"The military will have difficultly recruiting healthy and strong heterosexuals for combat purposes. Why? Fighting in combat with a man in your fox hole that has AIDS or is HIV positive is double jeopardy."

"[Gay marriage] will open the door to incest, to polygamy, and every conceivable marriage arrangement demented minds can possibly conceive. If God does not then punish America, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah."

"It is impossible to call yourself a Christian and defend homosexuality. There is no justification or acceptance of homosexuality.... Homosexuality means the death of society because homosexuals can recruit, but they cannot reproduce."

This man is full of quotable gems, in fact you can check them out in his books and speeches. I personally find him more threatening than Wright, because in his heart of hearts, he's only saying what God told him to say. And he is the President and CEO of John Hagee Ministries, which telecasts his national radio and television ministry all over this country. So he educating stupid people on a regular basis.

Oh and one more thing...he and McCain are still bedfellows, so if McCain comes to your town, Hagee is one step away.

Boys+Crush = Semi-sociopath

We've all had crushes, maybe some you still do. I was just thinking about the crushes I've had over the years...and I'm surprised I'm still alive.

Crushes takes us through so much drama, especially in our teen years. I think crushes are clear signs of borderline insanity. Just think of the crazy things we do for a look or a smile from that guy or girl. I think I was the worst, I did so many stupid things for a boy's attention, like:

Drove around his house, playing music loud enough so he could hear it.
Did a guy's homework.
Followed a guy around school.
Pretend to trip in front of a guy so he could laugh at me.
Talk about girls in an inappropriate way.
Cuss ridiculously.
Tricked him into dropping his best friend so I could be his best friend.
Went to a Poison concert (in 1990).
Smoked half a cigarette.
Lied about my sexual experiences.
Touch "things" while I was on the phone with a guy.
Slashed a guy's tire because he chose his girlfriend over me for a weekend in Louisville (well, it wasn't a crush, we were actually fooling around and cheating on our girlfriends)

See, pure insanity! It's a good thing I'm out of that phase.

Understanding the meaning of Shallow

Right now, a word is consistently placed on us (the gays). No, not Fabulous or Hot...I mean Shallow.
Shallow, such an ugly word and yet, some people actually like it. I was recently told (from a Gay guy)that it's good to be shallow because it means I care about my appearance. And I said, "really ?" He said yes and I said you're stupid. Well, I didn't say it, but I told him to think a little bit before speaking.

Are we shallow? Yes, everyone can be shallow at times, but if you love being shallow then you need help. To be shallow, is to be lazy as hell. If you only look at the surface of things then you're truly missing out. And if you think a person's worth lies in their looks and accessories, you're not seeing the deeper meaning of life.

I think a lot of people are shallow due to their insecurities. Gay men (or some) spent most of their lives hating themselves, lying consistently about their sexuality, feeling lost, alone, and confused. Once some sense of clarity comes into play, like mutual attraction, money, weight loss, or acceptance, we try to hold on to them in desperate ways. I like to believe that the gay shallow factor is product of our environment. It's a side effect from the mental or verbal abuse people get over the years. Now, I'm maybe in a minority team with this thought, but I think that most people are not that silly.
