VIDEO: Church Members Rally against SB48

There was a stupid rally against the LGBT Education Bill. These people foolishly believe that we want to teach GAY SEX to kids. SB48 just want to included LGBT people in history.

In this clip, KTLA 5 covers the silly rally and the 2 LGBT organizations protesting against them. One of the organizations is the Jordan Rustin Coalition (I'm the Co-chair of this one)

Let Us Remember, Bayard Rustin

This man is one of the staples of the civil rights movement. His story of self-discovery, loyalty and humanitarianism should be told to generations to come. His determination is truly legendary to our movement and I hope many activists remember the path he laid for all of us.

His birthday was this past week, but his legacy will live on in our struggle for civil rights. Please take a moment to learn about this extraordinary man.

As the Vice President of the LGBT organization partly named after him (Jordan Rustin Coalition), I hope I can echo as much of his passion and leadership.

Thank you, Bayard

Award Night

Last night, my group, The Jordan Rustin Coalition received a Medal of Honor for our work in the LGBT community.

I was very proud, being a newly minted board member, to not only get this award, but to see the history of LGBT of color in the room. I was very honored.

Also I got to talk politics with another Award winner, Karen Ocamb. She is the news editor of Frontiers magazine, one the largest LGBT publication in Cali-Cal. She's very intelligent and aware what's really going on, so I was very happy to talk about the dilly.

Here's a pic of some of us.

Please don't mind me, half my face is swollen from my wisdom teeth removal. So, yes you are looking at the Elephant man until I heal up.

MLK Kingdom Day Parade: LGBT style

For the 2nd year in a row, I marched in the MLK Kingdom Day Parade, representing LGBT people of color.

It's always a pleasure to represent 2 important pieces of me: my gayness and my culture. Seeing the faces and feeling the support was truly intoxicating... Especially, in the pouring rain.

Here are some pics of the event.

Such a great day!

Trying to Get it Right in California

This is good. Equality California (EQCA) and Jordan / Rustin Coalition (JRC) are reaching out to the Black communities of L.A. There will be efforts made by both groups, like this TV commercial featuring a Black couple.

JRC board president and blogger, Ron Buckmire said:
"Jordan / Rustin Coalition is happy to partner with Equality California as we do the work to open the hearts and minds of all Californians, including those in the Black community, on the question of marriage for same-sex couples. Our partnership includes a multi-media campaign, outreach and public education and even the nuts and bolts of staffing and supplies. I am confident that together we will see the day when full LGBT equality is restored to our state."

EQCA Marriage Director Marc Solomon included:
"As we celebrate this one-year-anniversary of marriages in California, we are proud to be working with Jordan / Rustin Coalition to have conversations with African-Americans about marriage for same-sex couples. As people really get to know our families, they will see they have the same hopes, dreams and concerns as any other family and simply want the protections and dignity that marriage affords."

This is a great step in bringing everyone to the table as well as opening minds.
