Rep. Jo Jordan, hand over your L-Card

Somebody tell me how you can be a lesbian and vote against your own people, or your rights? That what Rep. Jo Jordan of Hawaii did. This woman voted against marriage equality.

Why? She said that she's a legislator first and foremost. To vote for gay marriage, would be biased. Uh, it wouldn't be biased, it would be the right thing to do!

The LGBT community in Hawaii is ripping her a new one, and out of all people, Brian Brown comes to her aid:

Despite being called "Judas" in the gay press (along with suffering some other malignant and tasteless personal attacks) she is doing the right thing to express concerns about the many examples of punishment that people have suffered when marriage has been redefined elsewhere. Legal scholars on both sides of the issue brought this to the attention of all lawmakers, and it’s gratifying that Rep. Jordan is examining those concerns.

I don't know what Jordan will do in the future with respect to this issue. She is under tremendous pressure from gay activists and we should hold her in prayer. But whatever her final vote, the fact that she has acknowledged as legitimate the concerns many people have about the consequences of redefining marriage is an example of the kind of public servants we need more of in this country: elected officials who are willing to critically examine the issues without counting the cost and without worrying about being maligned and vilified by small-minded individuals who have no respect for the democratic process.

With that bigot supporting her, it's clear she's no longer a part of us. Jo has shat on the LGBT community and if I could, I would rebuke her in the name gayness.

Jo, we don't need folks like you.

Yes Ma'am! Hawaii House approves Marriage Equality

After a long day of debate and discussion, Hawaii's House of Representatives approved the Marriage Equality bill. The vote was 30-19. Now it heads back to Senate, who already approved it last week.

And as prmised, Governor Neil Abercrombie will swiftly sign the measure into law!

Marriage Equality Hearing continues in Hawaii

Yesterday, Hawaii's Senate passed the first line of Gay Marriage in the state. Now the House Judiciary and Finance Committee will hear more testimony today.

It started at 10am and may go until midnight.

Good news!

The Hawaii Senate Judiciary and Labor Committee approved the gay marriage bill by a 5-2 vote. Now it goes for a full Senate vote on Wednesday. If it passes there, the House is next, possibly on Thursday.

The Senate legislation would recognize marriages between persons of the same gender and would extend to gay couples the rights, benefits, protections and responsibilities of straight couples.

If this is completely passed, Hawaii will be the 15th state! Fingers crossed.

A large coalition of allies has been formed called the Let The People Decide coalition. It includes NOM, the Hawaii Family Advocates, Hawaii Family Forum, a diverse mix of pastors and church groups, and many others.

For the past several weeks, marriage supporters have been attending legislative constituent meetings, calling their representatives and standing on countless street corners during rush hour, waving signs to show their support for marriage. Pastors have preached about the importance of preserving marriage, and people are responding in droves.

This past Monday, NOM launched a major statewide television advertisement campaign designed to educate and mobilize marriage supporters throughout the islands. Hawaii now have Employment Protections for the Transgendered Community

Sorry to be late on this, but Hawaii passed the bill that provides job protection to the Trans community.

The Hawaii Senate approved a bill, previously passed by the House, to ban discrimination based on gender identity and expression in the workplace.

"The march towards full equality in the Aloha State continues," said Alan Spector, Equality Hawaii Co-Chair. "Providing employment protections to transgender citizens in Hawaii is a victory for civil rights and equal treatment under the law for all residents of our great state."

Equality Hawaii and The Human Rights Campaign worked together to build support for HB 546, which passed by a 22 to 2 vote on Tuesday.

Discrimination against transgender individuals is already illegal in Hawaii for housing, public accommodations and employment, but the ban on employment discrimination has only been established by rulings of the Civil Rights Commission and has not been written into the state statute.

Gov. Neil Abercromie said he will sign it into law.

Hawaii Lawmakers Ban Trans Discrimination in the Workplace

In Hawaii, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bill that will ban workplace discrimination based on gender identity.

The Senate Judiciary Committee Monday approved the bill, which was previously passed in the House. The vote was 3-2 with Sens. Mike Gabbard and Sam Slom opposed.


Discrimination against transgender individuals and others based on their expression of gender is already illegal in Hawaii for housing, public accommodations and employment, but the ban on employment discrimination has been establish by rulings of the Civil Rights Commission and has not been written into the state statute. The bill approved Monday by the Senate Judiciary and Labor Committee, HB 546, would write the anti-discrimination language into labor law.


Advocates said the law is necessary because employers are confused because the language is not specifically in the statute. Gov. Linda Lingle vetoed an identical bill six years ago, but Judiciary Chairman Sen. Clayton Hee said Monday he is confident the provision will become law.


It still faces negotiations with the House, but the differences between the two houses are technical and not expected to prevent passage.

So there will be more to come on this issue. I'm hoping for the best.

My Hawaii Vacation Breakdown

Hi All,

I'm back from Hawaii (Oahu) after spending 5 great days on the island. I have some pics to share with y'all, as well as, some things I learned about the people and the places. 

So, here is my rundown on the vacation.

• I was taught that Spam was for the less fortunate, however it is the food of the Gods in Hawaii.
• Waikiki is the new Las Vegas. But, it's a prettier tourist trap.
• If you go, don't eat on the strip, actually eat behind the main strip or in town.
• There version of pulled pork ain't the version of pulled pork I'm used to.
• The ABC Stores run that island.
• The Polynesian men are hot! For real!
• It's very carefree and laid-back in Hawaii. Everyone wore board shorts, tank tops and flip-flops. Fashion was not the deal.
• Cut off jeans are making a comeback.
• The ocean is so clear, y'all I tell you how beautiful it is.
• If you go to the island, try to stay next to the sea. You will love it.
• The seafood is really, really good.
• A lot of fanny packs come to Hawaii and LIVE FOREVER
• Hawaii is clearly an Obama state. You can get Obama dildos on any corner.
• Diversity is really alive in Hawaii. So many beautiful people and cultures coming together very well on the island.
