My Top 5 FAIL Moments in Sci-Fi/Fantasy/Horror in 2011

This year was good for geeks and BAAAD for geeks. We had some ugly setbacks and foolishness in our world. I'm share my top 5 horrible moments.

The Wonder Woman Pilot - For some reason, NBC thought they could take an iconic comic book character and hand her over to a writer with no idea on who WW is. The result? A horrible, HORRIBLE pilot for a possible series. For those who read me, know I was on this like sluts on cocks. And when I saw the pilot, I had to be talked back from the ledge. NBC and DC Comics should've been beaten for that pilot. Beaten with a salted barbwire whip.

The Buffy Reboot - Earlier this year somebody said in some studio, "Let's reboot Buffy, for no ass reason!" The minute that idea was spoke into existence, the geeks revolted. It was considered an abomination, blasphemy in the geek world. Every BTVS cast members was against it and no producer, director or writer wanted to touch it. However, one (semi-unknown) writer did and failed. Now the project is in limbo with S'ym and Magik. I speak for everybody by saying, "Thank GOD!"

Green Lantern - This movie was a fail for 3 reasons: 1. no plot 2. bad CGI and 3. Ryan Reynolds. I know, I know he's cute, but it wasn't enough. The movie went nowhere and failed to capture what most geeks love about the Green Lantern.

Scream 4 - This was an attempt to reboot the series, but all we got was a flawed script and a story that was blah. The movie takes place 10 years later in Woodsboro. Sidney returns and so does the killer or killers. Murders happen and once the truth was revealed, it just went downhill from there. It was good to see Neve Campbell as Sidney, but there was no reason for a fourth movie.

Sucker Punch - Great Hera, this movie was snap mess! It was a 12 year-old boy's wet dream and nightmare rolled into one big ole can of crap. The plot was... What can I say, there was no plot! It was about a girl who could dance, well, it was about female empowerment; no, it was about ninjas and monsters... See? It was a bouillabaisse ideas that just didn't come together. It was a complete and utter FAIL. And waste of time during my Hawaii vacation.

The 'Buffy' Reboot is in Limbo! Cocktails for Everybody!

I'm so happy to hear that the silly 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reboot is in limbo! For some reason, the studios thought it would be great to reboot Buffy. The world was against this, especially since Joss wasn't apart of it.

They also hired a writer to pen a story, but that's all they had... Just a writer. But now they don't have that. In fact, they fired her.

From Hero Complex:

Two sources close to the project say that the script submitted this past summer by writer Whit Anderson fell far short of expectations and, in the end, was rejected completely. That’s news that will spark celebration from some longtime “Buffy” fans who were less than thrilled by the prospects of a “Buffy” revival that didn’t involve Joss Whedon.
So what happens now?
A new writer is being sought but the entire endeavor may have lost some steam. There also might be some healthy fear among the producers who witnessed a spasm of fan criticism when the project was first publicized.

“If you’re going to bring it back, you have to do it right,” one key player in the project told Hero Complex. “[Anderson] came in with some great ideas and she had reinvented some of the lore and it was pretty cool but in the end there just wasn’t enough on the page.”
I'm not happy that a fellow writer is out of a job, but this was a doomed project from the gate. The fans will kill this project. Maybe it's best to let it die a quiet death. We will be pleased with that.

Interesting Quote: Nicholas Brendon

"I hope their vampires don't glitter. ... You know, listen...I think it's a mistake, I think that it's trying to kind of—they have to reach a whole completely new fanbase. And we already have that fanbase. So it's going to really be hard to kind of do that. But you know, everyone: They remade The Flintstones. Twice, I think."

"Xander" says NO to the Buffy remake.

Lukewarm Rumor: Glee's Heather Morris as Buffy the Vampire Slayer

This made my eyes buck out! Now rumors are out there that Heather Morris is a contender for Buffy.

From MovieWeb:

The source claims that Glee's Heather Morris has been brought up many times in regards to who will follow in Kristy Swanson and Sarah Michelle Gellar's footsteps. And now we are hearing that the actress is actively being sought to take on this highly coveted role.

While not much is known about this continuation of the franchise, we have learned that the tone will be more in step with the WB series that ran from 1997 to 2003, than it will the original 1992 feature film. The hope is to incorporate a neo-Valley Girl tone that will find this version of the character more in-line with her original Kristy Swanson incarnation, while at the same time presenting a fresh and hip take on the character for today's more sauve audiences.

The source indicates that Heather Morris's comedic timing is a perfect fit for Buffy Summers, and that her background as a dancer and a gymnast will be greatly utilized in the skill set that Buffy is supposed to have as a Slayer. In this new reboot, Buffy will no longer be in high school, but instead facing the same hardships that a lot of young college graduates have today in struggling to find a paying job and a healthy relationship. Though she plays a teenager on Glee, the 23 year-old-actress is actually the right age for this newly rebooted take on the character.

I like Heather, but this would be her "Showgirls". I don't wish this upon her

The Original Buffy wants 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' on the screen... And she wants to act in it

The star of horrid, original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, Kristy Swanson thinks it's a great idea for Buffy to on the screen, especially if she's asked to be in it.

She said:
“If they wanted me to be a part of it, I think that would be fantastic and that it would be a blast.”

Well, here's the thing Kristy... We die hard Buffsters, wait I'll clarify, SOME of us don't like to acknowledge the original movie. In fact, we like to forget it, tabula rasa style.

And to be honest, NONE OF US WANT TO SEE THIS REMADE MOVIE!

So, Kristy... Thanks, but no thanks.

Joss Whedon Responds to the Buffy Mess

Joss responds to this Buffy foolishness on E! online.

Here's what he said to Kristin from E! News
Kristin, I'm glad you asked for my thoughts on the announcement of Buffy the cinema film.  This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself.

Obviously I have strong, mixed emotions about something like this. My first reaction upon hearing who was writing it was, "Whit Stillman AND Wes Anderson?  This is gonna be the most sardonically adorable movie EVER."  Apparently I was misinformed. Then I thought, "I'll make a mint!  This is worth more than all my Toy Story residuals combined!" Apparently I am seldom informed of anything. And possibly a little slow. But seriously, are vampires even popular any more?

I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death.  But, you know, AFTER.  I don't love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I'm also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly. I can't wish people who are passionate about my little myth ill. I can, however, take this time to announce that I'm making a Batman movie.  Because there's a franchise that truly needs updating. So look for The Dark Knight Rises Way Earlier Than That Other One And Also More Cheaply And In Toronto, rebooting into a theater near you.

Leave me to my pain!

Sincerely, Joss Whedon.
Love him

Sorry But No Joss, No Buffy! END of Frakking Story

How much can a geek bitcho take today? First, it was Comic Con registration fail, then the Wonder Woman porno and the news... THE NEWS of this blasphemous Buffy reboot without Joss Whedon!

I need some lemon water and a fan, honey!

Okay, so WB has a writer and her name is Whit Anderson and she will, unfortunately feel the wrath of millions of geek for this. Please see this piece from L.A. Times
Anderson, with a chuckle, said she is ”fighting through” the script right now, but her concept has already engerized some key supporters. Charles Roven, one of the producers of “Batman Begins,” said his Atlas Entertainment signed on after he saw something special in Anderson’s tone and story.

“Generally,  I wouldn’t have said ‘Let’s revive this,’ but Whit’s take is pretty compelling and a lot of fun, and it’s interesting to see all of this re-imagined. This is a completely new reboot. Tone is extremely important and you want the audience to realize what is at stake and the peril is real, but at the same time what’s going on should be fun and inviting and keep everyone engaged. It needs to be relevant to today, too, and that is what Whit has found a way to do.”

Roven added: “There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character’s return…. While this is not your high-school Buffy, she’ll be just as witty, tough and sexy as we all remember her to be.” The project has plenty of hurdles ahead, and there is no announced director, but Roven said hopes to see the film reach theaters in 2012 or perhaps even 2011.
Did you see that?  “There is an active fan base eagerly awaiting this character’s return…. While this is not your high-school Buffy, she’ll be just as witty, tough and sexy as we all remember her to be.” Yes, there is an active and SERIOUS fan base that want the TV SHOW CAST, not some Twilight/CW cast to crap all over this movie! I can believe this is going forward! Who is making these ridiculous decisions? Why is Buffy even being talked about like this? This can not happen! It would be like the Cathy Lee Crosby version of Wonder Woman... A JOKE!

No WB! NOOOOOO!

A Buffy Remake...WITHOUT JOSS WHEDON?

This better be a joke and if it is, it ain't funny! This is FOOLISHNESS!!!

A new incarnation of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" could be coming to the big screen. "Buffy" creator Joss Whedon isn't involved and it's not set up at a studio, but Roy Lee and Doug Davison of Vertigo Entertainment are working with original movie director Fran Rubel Kuzui and her husband, Kaz Kuzui, on what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel.

While Whedon is the person most associated with "Buffy," Kuzui and her Kuzui Enterprises have held onto the rights since the beginning, when she discovered the "Buffy" script from then-unknown Whedon. She developed the script while her husband put together the financing to make the 1992 movie, which was released by Fox.
Kuzui later teamed with Gail Berman, then president of Sandollar Television, bringing back Whedon to make the TV series, which was produced by Fox TV and launched on the WB in 1997.

Kuzui and Sandollar received executive producer credits on "Buffy" and its spinoff, "Angel."
The new "Buffy" film, however, would have no connection to the TV series, nor would it use popular supporting characters like Angel, Willow, Xander or Spike.

Vertigo and Kuzui are looking to restart the story line without trampling on the beloved existing universe created by Whedon, putting the parties in a similar situation faced by Paramount, J.J. Abrams and his crew when relaunching "Star Trek."
WHAT?? This is an Omega Fail in waiting. No one will watch this and no one will take this seriously! Do they know about the series? Seven years of great TV? This is rogue! So rogue!

And no connection to the character we love? FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL, FAIL!!!!

I will call on the arctic winds and bring this studio and fools involved down. We Whedonites won't stand for this!
