In Tennessee: House votes Bible as Official State Book

The Tennessee House of Representatives voted the Bible to be the official book of the state. Yep, these fools think it's important to make the Bible legit, even though it may be unconstitutional.

Despite questions of constitutionality, lawmakers beat back an attempt to make Andrew Jackson's Bible the official book and voted 55-38 in favor of Rep. Jerry Sexton's original bill.

"History's going to tell us where we stand on this. I'm grateful to have the opportunity to have the side that I'm on," said Sexton, R-Bean Station, after the vote.

"It may be kind to me in the future and it may not be kind, and that's OK. I made a decision for today and I feel good about it."

Although a GOP-led effort, House Speaker Beth Harwell, R-Nashville, was one of 20 Republicans to vote against the measure. House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh, D-Ripley, and four Republicans abstained. Only six Democrats voted in favor of the bill.

Rep. John Ragan, R-Oak Ridge, suggested making Jackson's Bible the official state book. He thought the move would have shifted the bill into safer legal waters, noting Attorney General Herbert Slatery's opinion that making the Bible the official state book would violate the state and federal constitutions. Reps. Matthew and Timothy Hill, brothers and Republicans, questioned why Ragan chose Jackson's Bible. Matthew Hill asked why not Elvis' Bible; Timothy Hill asked why not consider Davy Crockett's Bible.

Hopefully, the governor will veto this crap.

Get in Line for your Duck Dynasty-Themed Bible

Two cast members of "Duck Dynasty" have created a Duck Commander-themed Bible.

This Bible is called, The Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible. It will include a New King James version of the Bible, along with 30 testimonials and 125 inspirational notes from Phil Robertson, their anti-gay leader and patriarch of the Robertson family.

A statement from publisher Thomas Nelson says this Duck Commander-themed Bible will focus on the five main values of the Robertson family: faith, family, fellowship, forgiveness, and freedom. The 125 inspirational notes from Phil and Alan, who served as executive editors for the new book, will revolve around the aforementioned five values. The 30 testimonials from the father and son duo will include first-hand accounts of how Phil and Alan have seen themselves and others transformed by the Word of God.

Robert Sanford, vice president and associate publisher for Thomas Nelson's Bible Group, said that his publishing group is "honored and excited to be working with Phil and Al Robertson on this new Bible."

"The Robertson family's passion for the Word is infectious and the impact of their ministry is amazing. We see this Bible as being something people can grow with in their own personal walk with God."

The Duck Commander Faith and Family Bible is the most recent faith-related book released by the Roberson family. Korie Robertson, wife to Duck Commander CEO Willie Robertson, previously collaborated with her mother, Chrys Howard, to release the book Faith Commander: Living Five Values from the Parables of Jesus. The book and DVD package is intended to be used as a Jesus-centered teaching curriculum for churches in the U.S.

This is pure mess, if you ask me.

Dan Savage pissed off some Christian Teens at the National High School Journalist Conference

Dan Savage served a sassy, but truthful dish at the National High School Journalist Conference in Seattle. Dan basically gave real talk about how Christians misuse the Bible for their own benefit. As he was talking, the Jesus kids got up and left. I guess if they were in same situation as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, they would fail. Anywho, see the drama for yourself.
Apparently, GOProud's human Ken doll was upset.

"Dan Savage should apologize for his comments and should apologize to the high school students in attendance whom he called ‘pansy-asses,’” Jimmy LaSalvia told Fox. “It is ironic that someone whose claim to fame is fighting bullying would resort to bullying tactics in attacking high school students who were offended by his outrageous remarks.” 

Bitch, please. Nobody was attacked. What Dan said was a real and the truth... Wow, I'm siding with Dan Savage. Hell, should be freezing now. source

Santorum thinks Obama is not Christian Enough

So Santorum believes that a president should govern from the Bible. Why? I don't know, it's Rick Santorum. He thinks Westboro Church are wonderful people.

Anywho, this is what he said in Ohio:

Obama's agenda is "not about you. It's not about your quality of life. It's not about your jobs. It's about some phony ideal. Some phony theology. Oh, not a theology based on the Bible. A different theology," Santorum told supporters of the conservative Tea Party movement at a Columbus hotel.

When asked about the statement at a news conference later, Santorum said, "If the president says he's a Christian, he's a Christian."

But Santorum did not back down from the assertion that Obama's values run against those of Christianity.

"He is imposing his values on the Christian church. He can categorize those values anyway he wants. I'm not going to," Santorum told reporters.

Santorum, you have been doing the same thing. Have a seat.

What the Bible Really Says about Gay Marriage

I love to hear statements like: "God doesn't support Gay Marriage" or "Gay Marriage is a sin, the Bible says so". But the funny thing is, the Bible says nothing about it... Nothing.

I found this piece in HuffPo, by Lee Jefferson that points out a couple of things the Bible doesn't discuss:

Second, the Bible does not clearly endorse one form of marriage over another. Adam and Eve as the divine groom and bride is one Biblical arrow in the quiver of same-sex union opponents. The Yahwist creation story in Genesis (the second creation story) has God forming Eve out of Adam's rib, and Adam exclaiming their unity ("this is at last bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh"). This is a gender creation story, not a creation of marriage story. Adam and Eve do not exchange rings, say "I do" and have a jazz band reception in Paradise. 

Third, the Biblical arguments against same-sex marriage are not proffered from texts that deal with marriage, but from texts that purportedly deal with same-sex orientation. Same-sex marriage is rejected as un-Christian and immoral on the basis of a myopic reading of a very few Biblical texts. And the texts in question are scant indeed. The most referenced texts are Genesis 19; the holiness codes of Leviticus 17-26, and in the New Testament, Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 6:9 and his Letter to the Romans 1:26-27. Not only does one have to "hunt" for references to same-sex practices, but there are no gospel texts that treat the matter. There is nothing attributed to Jesus of Nazareth that has anything to do with same-sex orientation. According to the gospels, Jesus never commented on same-sex practices; that fact certainly bears repeating to anyone criticizing the gay community on Christian grounds. Largely, same-sex practice is a topic of little interest to the Biblical authors. 

Unless these folks are ready a new, new version of the Bible, Gay Marriage is nowhere to be found. Please check out the article.

John Joe Thomas Murdered another Man because the Bible said Gays must be Stoned

This is really disturbing, y'all. Another crazy Christian uses the Bible and gay panic as reasons to kill another man.

A 28-year-old Upper Darby man has been charged with murder after telling police that he stoned a 70-year-old man to death when the man made homosexual advances toward him, authorities say.

John Joe Thomas, 28, of Sunshine Road in Upper Darby, spent almost every day with 70-year-old Murray Seidman at Seidman’s Lansdowne home, police say. Days before Seidman’s body was found on Jan. 12, Thomas allegedly beat Seidman to death with a sock full of rocks.

Thomas told authorities that he read in the Old Testament that homosexuals should be stoned to death. When Seidman allegedly made homosexual advances toward him over a period of time, Thomas said he received a message in his prayers that he must end Seidman’s life, according to court documents.

Police say that Thomas struck Seidman in the head about 10 times with the sock of rocks. Thomas left Seidman dead in his apartment, and then threw his bloody clothing and the bloody sock in a dumpster, according to authorities.

 John Joe tried to pass it off as someone else killed Murray. The policed learned that it was John Joe. He is being held with first degree murder charges.

As Texas forces the Bible on their Kids, here are other stories they can add

In some silly and odd way to "inspire" kids in school, Texas is making public schools incorporate Bible literacy into the curriculum.

Why? What does that really do for our kids, besides give them a good laugh and give them creative ways to relate Twilight's Edward with Jesus? I don't know, but in Texas anything is possible (sorry Toddy).

So, I thought since they are in the foolishness business, here are other stories they can teach.

Greek Mythology- students can not only learn about the Xanadu Muses or Wonder Woman's background, the can learn about jealously (Hera), how to be a man (Zeus) and how to beat up people and take over their land (Troy).

Uncanny X-Men- what better way to learn about diversity and morals. Mutants are different and discriminated against. With this comic book, students can learn to accept others while using the mental powers to cheat on tests.

Aesop's Fables- I learned more from The Boy who Cried Wolf story, than Samson and his long hair of strength. Plus, students love stories with animals in them.

Little House on the Prairie and other books by Laura Ingalls Wilder- students can learn how live within their means and build a house out of mud and straw. In fact, this book series is like the ultimate Home Economics course.

The Twilight series- this can help students stay virgins until they are married and accept the love of a vampire or a Native American werewolf. See, diversity, Satanism and abstinence all in one.

Yes, this is crazy mess... But so is Texas.

Suing Jesus?

Bradley LaShawn Fowler, a gay man, is doing something unbelievable and yet, very interesting. He's suing 2 publishing companies of the Bible for their need to publish certain versions referring to homosexuality as a sin.

He suing them for voilating his rights and causing emotional pain, and he's asking for $60 mil. This is very interesting. I never thought about suing the Bible. But I can see it...almost. He's saying these versions of the Bible continues to make gays feel horrible. A believer of the Bible would really take those words to heart and start their days guilt ridden and mentally tortured. But can you really blame the Bible?

I read Bible, went to church, even join a choir (the trappings of a southern upbringing); but I had to determine for myself if I wanted to believe in a book of morals or learn from life experiences. I chose to be free and leave the religious world behind. But I wouldn't blame the Bible for any pain, I would blame myself for allowing it to have such a hold on me. However, I would love to see where this case goes. If he wins, I can see more cases a-coming.
