President Obama will Tax the Rich

Finally!!!
As a result, when Obama announces at least $2 trillion in deficit reduction measures Monday, he is not expected to offer all the compromises he reached with House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, in July before those talks broke off.
"I would view this as the president's vision for how we achieve deficit reduction, which makes it inherently different than the sorts of legislative negotiations we were undertaking with the speaker over the summer," said the White House communications director, Dan Pfeiffer.

The plan represents an economic bookend to the $447 billion in tax cuts and new public works spending that Obama has proposed to as a short-term measure to stimulate the economy and create jobs. He's submitting it to a special joint committee of Congress given the task of recommending how to reduce deficits by $1.2 trillion to $1.5 trillion over 10 years.

The White House signaled its approach Saturday by highlighting a proposal in the president's plan that would set a minimum tax rate for taxpayers earning more than $1 million.

The measure – Obama is going to call it the "Buffett Rule" for billionaire investor Warren Buffett – is designed to prevent millionaires from using tax-avoidance schemes to pay lower rates than middle-income taxpayers. Buffett has complained that he and other wealthy people have been "coddled long enough" and shouldn't be paying a smaller share of their income in federal taxes than middle-class taxpayers.
 again FINALLY!

NOM only produced SOME of their 2009 Tax Returns

Here's a follow-up from my post on Monday. Watch this clip from the NOM Exposed site

Here's more info

The Form 990 is the tax return NOM is required to submit to the IRS. NOM dated its 990 November 14, 2010, yet did not disclose it publicly until today when it gave an HRC representative a hard-copy of the tax return.

We haven’t had a chance yet to cull through it with a fine-tooth comb but here’s an observation regarding the group’s donors. Most of the $7.1 million in revenue in ’09 came from a few very large donors. These donors could be individuals or corporations. Here is how NOM’s top donations break down.

1. $2,475,000

2. $1,230,000

3. $1,100,000

4. $400,000

5. $150,000

Running the numbers, this means that 3 wealthy donors contributed 68% of their total donations; 4 donors gave 73% and 5 donors gave 75%.

These figures reinforce what we and others (Fred Karger) have been saying: the National Organization for Marriage does not represent some sizeable (or even small) grassroots constituency. The only “constituency” they represent is that of a few anti-gay folks who have a lot of money. NOM’s reluctance to make their tax returns available publicly is par for the course in their pattern of secrecy and shadowy dealings.
They are hiding something and it's too obvious! The true will come out NOM! The truth will come out! Great job to the HRC for staying on this.

NOM is LATE on Filing their Taxes Again, Fred Karger looks for Answers

NOM is really late with filing their taxes. In the past, they tried to keep it hidden from the public so we wouldn't find out that maybe the Mormons are supporting them.

Well, they are at it again and Fred Karger went looking for answers.
I recently visited their new National Office in Washington, DC twice during regular office hours to view the returns. No one was there. They must make them available to anyone during regular business hours. We also have checked online repeatedly for their 2009 returns, and again, nothing. What is NOM trying to hide? Why do they not file their tax returns every year?

Déjà Vu

I went through the identical exercise in 2009 when I attempted to view NOM’s 2007 and 2008 990’s, but they never filed those either. We visited their then National Office in Princeton, NJ many times and no one was ever there either.

One set of 990’s was 5 months late. The other set was 17 months late, when finally, the night before NOM President Brian Brown was to testify in front of the Maine Ethics Commission last year, all of their delinquent tax returns magically appeared on the NOM web site.

It was too late to stave off a State of Maine investigation of NOM, because in spite of threatening to sue the State of Maine (which NOM eventually did), the Maine Ethics Commission voted to investigate the National Organization for Marriage for election “Money Laundering.”

NOM is not above the law. They need to file their Income Tax Returns like everyone else and every other organization. We are entitled to see just how much money they raised and spent in 2009. Whom are they trying to protect?

That's the $64,000, who are they really protecting?

Hey Teabaggers! Taxes are at its lowest in 60 Years

If a Tea Party person is reading this, please think about it:
Despite big tax cuts included last year's economic stimulus package, the latest CBS News/New York Times poll finds that as many as 34% of Americans think President Obama raised their taxes.

William Gale, head of the Tax Policy Center at the Brookings Institution, tells
CBS News that federal taxes are actually "at their lowest levels in 60 years."

Said Gale: "The relation between what is said in the tax debate and what is true about tax policy is often quite tenuous. The rise of the Tea Party at at time when taxes are literally at their lowest in decades is really hard to understand."

Taxes are the New Career Killer

Forget Satan Cults, teenage affairs, or blow jobs in the Oval Office...taxes are the career manglers. The big victim of the day is Tom Daschle. Tax issues reared its ugly on head on poor Tom. He's dealing with problems over back taxes and potential conflicts of interest.

He should've known this was an issue, however it's possible he lost track. But that overview forced him to withdraw his nomination to be President Barack Obama's Health and Human Services secretary.

Also, Nancy Killefer withdrew her candidacy to be the first chief performance officer for the federal government because of tax stuff. Folks, please get your tax stuff in order. Use Turbo Tax or the free services in the library or something. A preventable matters such as this should not cost you everything you've worked hard for, so handle your business. This is a big blow to the O Administration, however they will bounce back.

Question of the Day

If Joe the Plumber is scared of losing his money to the Evil Obama, why did he hire an entertainment manager?

And how can he pay for a manager, when he can't pay his taxes?
