The Dept.of Homeland Security ends the Ban on Green Cards for Gay Couples

Talk about fast.

The Department of Homeland Security has ended the green card ban on gay married couples. Secretary Janet Napolitano said:
After last week’s decision by the Supreme Court holding that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) is unconstitutional, President Obama directed federal departments to ensure the decision and its implication for federal benefits for same-sex legally married couples are implemented swiftly and smoothly. To that end, effective immediately, I have directed U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to review immigration visa petitions filed on behalf of a same-sex spouse in the same manner as those filed on behalf of an opposite-sex spouse.
This is really moving fast and forward. So excited to see these walls come down.

Please read the FAQ, it will help you understand the whole process.

Lesbian & Gay Bi-National Couples are eligible for Green Cards

After the death of DOMA, bi-national gay couples got some good news. They will be able to apply for green cards on the behalf of their international partners. That's good, or at least a strong step in the right direction.

Again, these couples will receive immigration benefits, which includes green cards.

With green cards, these couples and families can actually be together. This completely changes the game for married gay and lesbian bi-national couples.

But there's still more to do on this front, but now some of the weight will be lifted.
