In lieu of Vermont's victory of recognizing marriage equality, Ben & Jerry's has a little something, something for us...

Starting tomorrow, and continuing on through the month of September, Ben & Jerry's "Chubby Hubby" ice cream will become "Hubby Hubby" ice cream. The new recipe? It's basically the same old recipe - vanilla malt ice cream, pretzel nuggets covered in fudge and filled with peanut butter, with fudge and peanut butter swirls throughout - except there's a little love for the LGBT folk thrown in.

I wonder if this is nationwide, I'll check Ralphs in the morning?

Vermont Legalizes Gay Marriage

Well, well, well...Gov. Douglas' efforts were wasted!

The veto was overridden; the Senate vote was 23-5 and the House vote was 100-49. Under Vermont law, two-thirds of each chamber had to vote for override.

Vermont is the 4th state to permit gay marriage.

Congrats, Vermont and let hope for an open-minded future continue.

6 is the Magic number...

Gov. Ass Douglas vetoed the marriage equality bill in Vermont. Now the legislators will need to meet and plan an override. The Senate is ready to override Douglas, but the House is an different story.

They need 6 folks to override the veto...Can this be done?

Gov. Jim Douglas Don't be a Fool!

Gov. Douglas' may veto the marriage equality bill for Vermont as soon as today. State lawmakers will try to stop him, but they may lack the votes from the House. However, everyone remains hopeful.

The plan is to get two-thirds of the vote in both chambers to override the veto. If they can muster up enough support, the bill stands.

I wish the state lawmakers luck in doing everything they can to push this through. This event is clearly sending hope to all gay couples, as we foresee a right to marry reality.

And for Gov. Douglas, he needs to think about this thoroughly. The times are changing, money problems are the real issues, gay marriage, not so much. He should be a ground breaker and move the bill along. Trying to uphold these archaic beliefs will only bring him faster. Gov. Douglas can either be trampled by social change or get out of its way and let it happen.

The choice is his, let's hope he makes the right one.

Vermont has voted for Gay Marriage

Big news! After talking and talking for 4 hours, the Vermont House of Representatives made gay marriage legal however, the bill faces a veto from the governor (Hater).

The house voted 95-52 in favor of the bill, which had already cleared the state Senate in a 26-4 vote.

Still, the governor wants veto it.

But his stank ass veto would not kill the bill. The members of the House and Senate can override the veto by securing a two-thirds majority of support in each chamber. The Senate would need 20 votes; the House would need 100 votes.

The governor is a fool to veto this bill. He should see how this can change everything. He can be the a part of movement or a foolish man using ignorance as an excuse to halt gay marriage.

Vermont Gov. Jim Douglas is a Hater!

Just when you wanted to party in Vermont, Gov. Jim Douglas just had to pull the plug.

The villan says he will veto a bill to legalize gay marriage if it passes the Legislature. Then to add a huge salt rock to a wound, he announced that he was against same-sex marriage.

To Jim, he believes that the economy and the state's budget deficit is more important, as if gay marriage has anything to do with the state's budget drama.

What a waste of a leader.

Senate OKs Gay marriage in Vermont

Great News for family in Vermont!

The Vermont Senate voted 26-4 today in favor of the same-sex marriage bill.

The bill will have third reading and vote Tuesday. All bills have three readings. It is designed for people to reconsider or amend an item, but it unlikely that a vote would change on a third reading.

A similar measure begins moving through the House on Tuesday with testimony before the House Judiciary Committee. A full vote on that measure wouldn't come before next week.

The four senators who voted against the measure are: Randy Brock (R-Franklin County), Vince Illuzzi (R-Essex/Orleans), Hull Maynard (R-Rutland County) and Bobby Starr (D-Essex/Orleans).

Senators who had been undecided, including Sen. Dick Mazza (D-Chittenden/Grand Isle), Phil Scott (R-Washington) and Bill Doyle (R-Washington), all voted in favor of the bill.

Several senators made empassioned speeches on the floor in favor of and against the bill.

"We're not condoning homosexuality," Sen. John Campbell, D-Windsor, told the Senate just before the vote. "What we're doing is recognizing that some people are homosexuals."

Sen. Kevin Mullin, R-Rutland, who tried unsuccessfully to put the issue to a public referendum, said he believed a referencum would pass among Vermonters. "I fervently believe the people of this state are ready for this action," he said.

Sen. Randy Brock, R-Franklin, spoke out against the bill. He said he believes civil unions afford same-sex couples all the rights of marriage, that the majority of his constituents oppose same-sex marriage and that the legislation was too hastily passed.

'We have denied Vermonters the full opportunity to epxress their opinions," Brock said.

I'm sure the crazies are up in arms over this.
