A Piece of My Childhood: Miss Sarah's Shop

This is pic brings back so many memories.

This was Miss Sarah store. When I was a kid, this was the main candy, pop and ice cream store. We used to scrape up our nickels and dimes, run up to the store window and get our candy. Miss Sarah would put our candy in small paper bags and we would be set for the rest of the day.

She had a goldmine of candy and treats, I can't tell you how this place was such a big deal. So, to see the store like this is a little heartbreaking. I know that small businesses don't last forever, but it's hard to think otherwise.

I hate to see it like this, but the memories keeps it tact for me. The days of carefree worries, hot summer days and no worries.

This store holds a special place in my heart, and regardless of what it looks like now it's still a wonderful store to get candy.

My Class Reunion Recap

Classmates: Davida, Me and Trese in our old hangout spot from HS

Thanks to FB, I know we have Dr.s, lawyers, brokers, scientists, teachers, nurses, artists, seamstresses, farmers, bankers, mothers, soldiers and the list goes on....not bad for a class of around 150 that the administration said would never amount to anything and did everything it could along the way to remind us. Looks like we are having the last laugh. I am feeling a night filled with cheap beer and some Round Up. - Amanda Emmons Persons, Class of '92
My Class Reunion was a blast! I really enjoyed the craziness, the madness, the drunkenness (not me) of the entire weekend.

Let me break in down in bullet point style:
  • Our class was always full of life.
  • Towback was the theme for our reunion.
  • The real hot guys wasn't able to make it this reunion.
  • Cake, Cake, Cake, Cake, Cake, Cake, is forever stuck in my head.
  • Everyone was happy to see each other.
  • Most folks stayed in the surrounding states, my friend Davida and I were the only ones that live way out. I traveled the furthest.
  • Not to boost my ego, but I was one of highly anticipated classmates. I was kinda uncomfortable with the attention, I didn't like talking about myself too much (yes, this is true, bitches)
  • The women looked great.
  • The guys actually brought moonshine to our reunion.
  • It felt good to be missed by old friends.
  • I had more alcohol this weekend than I normally have all year.
  • Many of us are successful in many different ways.
  • Several classmates are going through divorce.
  • There are 3 of us who are gay and 1 known bisexual.

10 Things I've learned since I returned to my Hometown

Since I've been back in my hometown, I have been humbled, sadden, excited and manic. To give you an idea, here are some things I've experienced:
  1. People actually drive the speed limit.
  2. There is no rush hour.
  3. If you buy or eat Godiva chocolates, you are considered rich.
  4. JC Penny is like Nordstrom here.
  5. Trucks are considered BMWs.
  6. If you want everyone know you're in town, go to Wal-Mart.
  7. Vegans are like an alien race.
  8. BBQ is fast food, Steak houses are worshiped.
  9. Country boys are so hot.
  10. No one believes this is my real hair because no man wants long hair.

Off to my Hometown

I'm in route for my 20th year High School reunion in Union City, Tn. Y'all wish me luck spending 5 days in the 'warmth' of Tennessee.  Not the most gay-friendly place, but we will see they have grown.

The Sad, Crazy News from My Hometown

So, on Facebook, my sister sent a link to a news story:
UNION CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Police in Union City have charged a man with throwing a ham at his mother.
According to the Union City Daily Messenger, 37-year-old Emanual Cordell Kennedy was arrested Tuesday afternoon on a charge of domestic assault.

Brenda King, his mother, told police the two argued at her home and he hit her in the back with the ham while she was walking down a hall. She left the home and went to the police department to report it.
The sad thing about this story is I KNOW THESE PEOPLE!

The woman is my mama's friend and the mother of my good friend. When I saw this, I almost fainted. I can't believe this made the news, in fact, it was under CNN. I hope they are okay.

My Hometown is featured in a Reality Show

Glamour Belles is a reality show based on a fashion store in my hometown of Union City, Tennessee.

I have a couple clips for y'all to check out. This one features an old friend of mine, Stephanie (with the brown hair). She was EMO back in the 90s... Funny how life changes.

Here's another one, hinting on Stephanie's style

Yes, I used to talk like that. Those of you who have met me know my accent is nothing like this anymore.

Down South Pics pt. 2: Union City, Tennessee... My Hometown

While I was in Murray, I drove down (36 miles) to my hometown of Union City. I have to say that it was a bittersweet trip.

I was glad to see the town still frozen in time, but it was sad to that some places were closed down or completely gone; like my friend, Jason's house and elementary school.

So to give y'all some insight, here are a few pics of home.

I want to go Home... But I don't know why

I have been really thinking about my hometown, Union City, Tennessee.
So much happened there: my birth, my love for boys and comic books, my first heartbreak and my first bj (giving).

For some reason, I'm drawn back to the area. I don't know why, I just want to go back to the small neighborhoods and the long nights of boredom.

So, I think I'm going to spend a few days down South. I need to figure out why I have this need to return home. Is it something there that's unresolved? I don't know... I don't know why Union City has become a part of my summer travel plans.

It's interesting really, I spent most of my teen years trying to get out and now, I want to go back.

Class of 1992

Wow! I haven't seen this in years. I lost my senior yearbook and I wish I knew how to get another one. Anywho...These are some of my classmates in high school.

There's me and my best friend, Davida, followed by my best friend/crush Brandon at the end.

Stephanie was the rebel, Darren was cute and Chris, I think he came out years later.

Those were interesting times back then. Although I was closeted, lonely and stuck in a small town, I knew the best days were coming.

And by the power of Greyskull, I was right!
