Angry Mob Drags Out and Brutally Beat 4 Gay Men in Nigeria

Lord, Nigeria!

The Huntress brought this to my attention today. In Abuja (the capital of Nigeria), a mob attacked gay men by dragging out of their homes and beating them with clubs and sticks riddled with nails. Reports claim that during these brutal attacks, the mob were shouting they were  “cleansing the community” of gays.

It was a mob of 50 men who attacked 4 gay men. 50 vs 4, really? One of the victims was almost beaten to death! And if you're thinking, 'What did the Cops do?' Well, I tell you, NOTHING! Gay activists said that the cops continued to beat and verbally abuse the victims!

What we're hearing and seeing in Nigeria is a horrifying reaction to the anti-gay law that was recently signed. Our fam in Nigeria are truly living in fear. Could you imagine living in your home, wondering if a mad mob will bust in a kill you? Now imagine feeling like this every day, every night; not able to relax or feel safe.

Hope the UN or someone step in and do something about this.

Why do some non-LGBT Nigerians seek to live and work outside this country? It's because it is easier and living is more pleasant. Living as a gay man outside of Nigeria would be the most pleasant thing, but then you think about your country and the country you want to live in. People in other countries fought for the freedoms they now enjoy. They never give up on the idea of a better, egalitarian society. We need to push through and make Nigeria better. Living abroad would not bring the change we need. I think it's temporarily satisfying.

Archbishop Praises the Nigerian Anti-Gay Bill

Archbishop Ignatius Kaigama is very happy that the Anti-gay bill passed. In fact, he wrote a letter praising Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan for the law.

In the letter he said:

“We commend you for this courageous and wise decision and pray that God will continue to bless, guide and protect you and your administration against the conspiracy of the developed world to make our country and continent, the dumping ground for the promotion of all immoral practices, that have continued to debase the purpose of God for man in the area of creation and morality, in their own countries.”

While he says he will treat gays with love and understanding, he doesn't seem to care about the thousands of protesters demanding the deaths of the 11 gay men in jail.

In Nigeria: Protesters demand Executions for 11 Gay Men

More bad news in Nigeria.

Thousands of protesters showed up at the Shariah court, demanding for the convictions and executions of 11 gay men.

It got so bad that security officials had to fired into the sky to break up the hostile crowd. At this time, the defense counsel couldn't submit an application for bail, and the defendants couldn't give testimony. But what scary about all of this is their fate is so unknown. Just last week, a man was publicly whipped and fined for sodomy. And that was the court being lenient...

In Cape Town: Soccer Fans stand against Nigeria's Anti-Gay Law

The LGBT community and allies sent a few messages against Nigeria's hateful anti-gay law. During the Chan match between Nigeria and South Africa, this group held up signs and rainbow flags to show support.
