Key Findings from the 2012 LGBTQ National College Athlete Report

Campus Pride's 2012 LGBTQ National College Athlete Report surveyed college athletes about their experiences. Here are some key findings.
Out of 8,841 NCAA athletes polled, only 394 identified as lesbian, gay, bisexual or questioning.

Only 7 individuals identified as transgender, and none of them were are part of a featured collegiate sport.

More women student athletes identified as LGBQ than men, according to the study.

LGBQ student athletes are more likely than their heterosexual counterparts to have other marginalized identities, including being a woman, being a person of color, or having a disability.

One in four LGBQ student athletes are pressured to be silent about their sexual identity among teammates and in playing collegiate sports.

LGBQ student athletes are two times more likely to experience harassment than heterosexual athletes.

LGBQ student athletes are nearly six times more likely to be singled out as the resident authority due to their identity compared to heterosexual teammates.

Fifty-one percent of LGBQ student athletes report being deliberately ignored or excluded compared to 41 percent of their heterosexual teammates.
