"Shadow Boy" Update: First Look at Jackson and Brandon

I'm excited to share with you a pic of my two main characters, Jackson and Brandon drawn by Dwayne Biddix.

Jackson has the long hair and Brandon is the guy in awe.

Here are their descriptions

BRANDON HANKS (19) – He's smart, a bit of a geek and very strong willed. He is also very guarded and keeps his deepest feelings hidden in a journal. Brandon just moved in with his grandmother and aunt in Marion, South Carolina, after a fallout with his stepfather. The incident was very tough for Brandon, but he manages to stay positive. This is his opportunity for a fresh start in Marion, especially after meeting Jackson.

JACKSON GARRETT (20) – He’s laid-back, charming, a little mischievous and not completely human. Jackson is a descendant from an ancient god, Pan. It’s something he's not comfortable with, but determined to make the best of the situation. Jackson's gifted with supernatural talents: psychic persuasion, controls shadows, Chlorokinesis, flight, inhuman strength and more. Jackson uses his powers carefully, but once he let loose, he is a force to be reckon with. Jackson has an interest in Brandon.

This one of the few drawings of these characters. I will share more before I start the Shadow Boy site.

Geraldo Rivera apologizes to Trayvon Martin's Parents

Geraldo apologized to the Martin family yesterday on his show, "Geraldo At Large". This was the first time he has ever spoken to the family.

He started by trying to explain the reason behind his statements:

"What I was trying to do was caution parents that allowing kids to wear hoodies or similar clothing in certain circumstances, particularly if they were minority young men, could be dangerous," Rivera explained. "But I never intended to hurt anyone’s feelings and certainly Sybrina and Tracy, I never intended to hurt your feelings. I want to personally convey my deepest apologies to both of you. I am sorry, Tracy, if anything I said added to your misery.”

The family forgave him, but the mother had this to say:

 “Your apology is accepted," Martin said. "Let me just add one thing with the wearing of the hoodie. I don’t think America knows that, in fact, at the time of the incident when he initially made the call, it was raining. So Trayvon had every right to have on his hood. He was protecting himself from the rain. So if being suspicious, walking in the rain with your hoodie on is a crime, then I guess the world is doing something wrong.”

Scandal: Aaron Schock Paid for P90X with Campaign Funds

Well, I knew that body came with a price. Everyone's hate-sex fantasy, Aaron may be in some trouble for misuse of funds.

The report released Thursday by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, D.C., also indicated Schock's campaign committee reimbursed the two-term Peoria Republican the following: $49,955 for travel, meals and other expenses during the 2008 election cycle; almost $24,000 to his mother, Janice Knapp, for various expenses; $390 to Seaborne Seaplane, an airline based in the Virgin Islands; and $319 to purchase P90X fitness training DVDs.

The CREW report which took nine months to compile found 248 of 435 House members (105 Democrats, 143 Republicans) used campaign money to benefit themselves and relatives.

"A lot of what other people did is not illegal," said Melanie Sloan, CREW's executive director. "What Aaron Schock did crossed the line."

Real Talk: Full Equality, not Marriage Equality, should be on the DNC Platform

Okay, okay, enough with this Evolve Already gay marriage plank business. Yes, I get it, we want Obama to support gay marriage and open the doors to marriage madness all over the country. But have we sat back and truly thought about this? We are trying to make someone evolve on our timetable versus when they are ready. Can you tell me how and when that actually works?

I hate to say it, but I believe this marriage equality plank initiative has clouded our thinking. Let's take a minute to process this notion. Out of all of the LGBT issues, marriage is the main subject we want the DNC and President to support overall? No. That's not a smart plan at all. If we are creating a LGBT plank to be included in the DNC platform, it needs to be inclusive of our entire community; meaning everyone in the L-G-B-T family.

Our needs are very diverse within the LGBT community. While gay marriage is cute for a privileged few, it is not a priority to many others. For most people in our community, matters like job security, healthcare or housing takes top shelf. When you are faced with social and economic disparities, the idea of marriage may not be on the forefront. In other words, how can I think about marriage when I can be fired for even talking about my partner at work?

Then, we have to think about anti-bullying laws. An additional piece to our LGBT plank should be safe schools and anti-bullying enforcement. Our children need a safe space to fully develop into their own person. No child should be subjected to consistent bullying and harassment in the classrooms.

So to wrap this up, I'll just be real; marriage equality is not the LGBT priority, full equality is. This is the main initiative our community should be putting on the President's table. A full equality plank will showcase all our needs as a community.
