Steve Wiles is a Republican state Senate candidate who was a cheerleader for North Carolina’s constitutional amendment against marriage equality. Thinking he's the golden child of the GOP, Steve just knew that nothing could bring him down...

Well, maybe his drag queen past. You see, Steve was Miss Mona Sinclair in his 20s. He was a regular performer at a gay nightclub in Winston-Salem and supposedly gay.

Wiles’ responses over the past three weeks have ranged from categorical denial to tacit admission. 

“I have already apologized to the people who matter most to me for the things I did when I was young,” Wiles said this week, declining to clarify for what he has apologized. The comment was made in the last of three separate interviews. At first, Wiles denied the claim.

“That’s not me,” Wiles said three weeks ago, referring to Mona Sinclair. Wiles responded “no” when asked whether he was gay. This week, Wiles’ campaign website, Facebook page and Twitter handle were taken down.

Did he really think this wouldn't see the light of day? Come on, Steve... Come on!

Arrest made in the murder case of Popular Drag Queen, Miss Wanda

In Tampa, police made an arrest to the murder of Anthony Jerome Lee, also known as the popular drag queen Miss Wanda.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, local police have apprehended Deandre Tolliver, 23, of Lakeland, and believe he is one of three men involved in Lee's May 28th murder. 

Lee was cooking dinner at a friend's house that night when a suspect knocked. Lee opened the door and was shot five times at point-blank range. Police believe it might have been a case of mistaken identity. 

Tolliver, 23, is already on probation after serving about six months in prison for assault with a deadly weapon. Though police aren't divulging his exact role in the ambush, he now faces charges of first-degree murder and robbery.

At this time, the other suspects are still at large.

Legendary Drag Star, Miss Wanda was Murdered

South Beach lost a Diva. The Legendary drag queen Miss Wanda (Anthony Jermone Lee) was shot five times at a friends' home in Tampa.

At this time, no one has been arrested for the murder.

Miss Wanda was a mainstay in South Beach and well-known for her powerful performances. She was a force of nature and a great friend to those closest to her.

"Wanda can be a certified Bitch with a capital B," said her longtime friend, Henry Williams AKA South Beach drag queen Tiffany Fantasia. 

"She was one of those people who could give you no fakeness, no phoniness. You got the real deal how she felt. She was a tough cookie, but once you got to know her, you fell in love with her." 

Williams described Wanda, 49, as "a mentor, an inspiration." 

"Her performances were awesome. Those that truly knew her, knew she was a real person. you didn't get phony crap. You knew where you stood with Wanda and that was refreshing to a lot of people, including myself."

While the community mourns her loss, I hope they can remember the good times and fierce vigor she possessed.
