To me - the Confederate flag simply stands as a symbol that the south LOST the civil war and lost it badly. People don't realize that the south was smashed and burned in that time period.
I always chuckle when I go into the south and stop in a store and see a Confederate flag with the motto "The South Shall Rise Again". I usually mutter "And the north shall kick your ass once again."
And of course the current political turmoil in the U.S. is strictly a southern thing steeped in racism and the hatred of the other, rural versus urban and suburban.
I think the only way we'll get rid of the Tea Baggers is to kill them all. But barring that - I'm also for every person in the U.S. in the year immediately following high school, they should do one year of national service. Take urban kids and put them in the rural areas, rural kids in the urban areas. Then maybe we won't have to worry that they've never had exposure to the 'other'.
The Armed forces try to do it, but there's that whole warfare thing that is a total downer.
What I'm talking is something like the WPA or CCC again.
Viktor is a small town southern boy living in Los Angeles. You can find him on Twitter, writing about pop culture, politics, and comics. He’s the creator of the graphic novel StrangeLore and currently getting back into screenwriting.
