Not too long ago, a video showed the world how Oscar Grant III was shot to death at Oakland, California, transit station. The man responsible was (now Ex) BART officer Johannes Mehserl.
In the video, you can see Mehserle shooting Grant in the back as another officer kneeled on the man. The shooting created public outrage and many protests that sparked community meetings and more riots. Now, after the madness, Mehserl was arrested and charged with murder.
District attorney Tom Orloff told reporters:
"What I feel the evidence indicates is an unlawful killing done by an intentional act. From the evidence we have there's nothing that would mitigate that to something lower than a murder. The murder charge was the appropriate charge given the state of the evidence."
Tonight, the Barbara Jordan/Bayard Rustin Black LGBT Coalition are holding a candlelight vigil in Leimert Park in L.A.
