The decision from to deny a preliminary injunction and grant the city’s motion to dismiss means there will be no referendum on the recognition statute, which will likely become law July 6 after a congressional review of the law is completed. Congress is not expected to undue the legislation. Retchin determined that the D.C. Board of Elections and Ethics ruled properly that the proposed referendum, sought by a coalition of area clergy, was an improper subject for a ballot question because it would violate the city’s Human Rights Act. The act, she said, makes it “unlawful for the government to deny services or benefits based on membership in a protected category,” and there are some 200 rights and responsibilities conferred to married couples that are not given to legally recognized same sex couples.
"My concept of marriage is a male and a female for the perpetuation of the species, for children to be born and identify the bloodline and the heritage. But I'm pretty sure, as things are moving along, that that will probably change."
He killed his career because now the conversation is not about his talent but about his sexual preference. He's done. I hope I'm completely wrong. I hope he becomes the next Beatles and proves me wrong. Adam was fantastic. What a powerful and attractive man he is. He can come on tour whenever he’d like."

A note to our dear gay leaders
by John Aravosis (DC) on 6/29/2009 11:58:00 AMI'm so proud of our gay leaders today. Getting all spiffed up to go to the White House and "deliver our president a message."
That'll be the day. Oh, I'm sure, in the 8 minutes or so that a small select handful of those present will be shuffled into a private ante-room to meet the president, they'll tell him things like "people were hurt" or "people were disappointed." (The overwhelming rest of the invitees will get a whopping 0.5 seconds to deliver their "stern" message to the president as he's shaking their hand and looking to the next person).
Obama knows we're hurt and disappointed. Telling him that we have families too, with him nodding, Clinton-like, perhaps even biting his lip to show that he too feels our pain, will accomplish absolutely nothing. The message that our leaders need to send President Obama is that we're mad as hell and we're not going to take it anymore.
If any of our leaders want to deliver a real message to the president, try asking him any of these questions - you can say it's from one of our leaders who was a big Obama supporter during the campaign, raised $50,000 for the president, and then was banned from attending:
1. Our lawyers say you didn't have to support DOMA in court at all, you could have opposed it if you actually felt that our civil rights were important enough. When are you going to oppose DOMA in court and start following through on your promise to push for its repeal? or
2. Comparing our marriages to pedophilia and incest? Our community expects an apology, why have you refused to give one? or
3. Two gay service members are being discharged a day under Don't Ask Don't Tell. You could stop the discharges right now by issuing a stop-loss order. You refuse to, giving some BS explanation about wanting a legislative fix. Yeah, we all want a legislative fix. What does that have to do with the fact that you have the power to stop this travesty now, as you promised, and you refuse to?
4. You didn't include health benefits in that memo for federal employees you signed last week. You claimed DOMA wouldn't let you. Our lawyers say that's BS. You can provide health benefits to, for example, domestic partners. Tell us the real reason that you're treating gay federal employees as separate but unequal to straight federal employees? Yes, if you ask my questions you might not get an invite back for more canapé next year. But you might just actually make a difference. That is why you're all going, right?
Twin robots named Skids and Mudflap, "disguised as compact Chevys, constantly brawl and bicker in rap-inspired street slang. They're forced to acknowledge that they can't read. One has a gold tooth." (watch the trailer for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen)
It's hard to view Mudflap and Skids as anything but racist, said Ty Burr in The Boston Globe. They are "shuck-and-jive Autobots who talk in ridiculous gangsta-speak." And they're also "Jar Jar Binks times two and the first known example of robot blackface," not to mention "insultingly unfunny comic relief."
Skids and Mudflap do "indicate that minstrelsy remains as much in fashion in Hollywood as when, well, Jar Jar Binks was set loose by George Lucas," said Manohla Dargis in The New York Times. But "for what it's worth," the script for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, "also includes a crack" about the character Simmons, "who's coded as Jewish, and his 'pubic-fro head.'"

"Unless the president on Monday articulates a strong action plan, and is willing to do it with cameras rolling, it is going to go from bad to worse."
His statement about Obama's stance on Gay Rights.
I doubt it, Sweetie.
The Matthew Shepard Foundation was surprised to learn this morning via media reports that blogger Perez Hilton (Mario Lavandeira) has announced he plans to donate, to our organization, the proceeds of a lawsuit he is contesting over an altercation which has been widely reported in recent days.
We had no advance notice or contact from Mr. Hilton or his representatives regarding this proposal, nor any communication since he posted this plan to his website.
We do not know the details of the lawsuit, whether it has been filed, the nature of his claims or the likely outcome. But because the lawsuit presumably involves the physical attack prompted by Mr. Hilton's admitted use of an anti-gay slur, the Foundation will be unable to accept any funds obtained in such a manner. We very much appreciate the generosity of the offer to support our continuing work to memorialize Matthew through activism in defense of sexual minorities and in favor of understanding, compassion, and acceptance.
But because so much of our work involves education to reduce the use of hateful language against gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons, or those so perceived, it would be inappropriate for us to benefit financially from circumstances in which such a verbal attack was involved.
While we applaud Mr. Hilton's apology to the LGBT community and their loved ones for his use of such a slur, we also feel compelled to point out that use of epithets can often lead to physical violence, as it appears it may have in this case, and that the Matthew Shepard Foundation has worked for more than 10 years to bring to people's attention the consequences of hateful or inolerant language.

“I am not unaware of the controversies swirling around this dinner,” Biden said, “swirling around the speed -- or lack thereof -- that we’re moving on issues that are of great importance to you and, quite frankly, to me and to the President and to millions of Americans.”
Biden thanked people in the room for their hard work and dedication during the election.
“More importantly , I want thank you for being a critical – critical – voice for keeping the nation focused on the unfinished business of true equality for all of our people; and I know, and this administration knows, that we have so much more to do,” he said. “I promise you, I promise you, with your help we’ll get there in this administration.”
Biden ticked off a list of priorities for the community, starting with receiving a standing ovation for saying with great gusto, “We will repeal the Defense of Marriage Act with your help!” He touched on “don’t ask, don’t tell,” the Domestic Partner Benefits and Obligations Act, employment nondiscrimination, the HIV travel ban and hate crimes.
“It all is for one purpose and that is, securing equality and dignity – equality and dignity – for all Americans,” Biden declared.
I'm glad things turned out to be a success. Folks still have hope for change and willing to make it happen.
However, I'm curious to hear what the Haters have to say. They wanted this to fail and by the grace of Hera, it didn't.
Maybe that's a sign.
We'll see
The new enemies list
by John Aravosis (DC) on 6/24/2009 09:14:00 PMIt should be interesting to see which gay leaders the Obama White House blacklists for next Monday's big gay bash to, ironically, commemorate the kind of gays who, if they were around today, would likely be on that blacklist. (I've already heard of three big gay groups reportedly being snubbed). Of course, the White House is refusing to say who they've invited, and who is now on the civil rights blacklist. It's almost as if somebody spooked the leader of the free world.
PS For those who have asked, no, Joe and I weren't invited.
"One, tomorrow leave at 5 a.m. for New York and meetings. Will think about you on its streets and wish I was going to be there later in the month when you are there. Tomorrow night back to Philadelphia for the start of the National Governor's Conference through the weekend. Back to Columbia for Tuesday and then on Wednesday, as I think I had told you, taking the family to China, Tibet, Nepal, India, Thailand and then back through Hong Kong on world wind tour. Few days home then to Bahamas for 5 days on a friend’s boat for the last break of the summer. The following weekend have been asked to spend it out in Aspen, Colorado with McCain - which has kicked up the whole VP talk all over again in the press back home . . .
"Two, mutual feelings . . . You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light - but hey, that would be going into sexual details ...
"Three and finally, while all the things above are all too true - at the same time we are in a hopelessly - or as you put it impossible - or how about combine and simply say hopelessly impossible situation of love. How in the world this lightening strike snuck up on us I am still not quite sure. As I have said to you before I certainly had a special feeling about you from the first time we met, but these feelings were contained and I genuinely enjoyed our special friendship and the comparing of all too many personal notes ...
"Lastly I also suspect I feel a little vulnerable because this is ground I have never certainly never covered before - so if you have pearls of wisdom on how we figure all this out please let me know... In the meantime please sleep soundly knowing that despite the best efforts of my head my heart cries out for you, your voice, your body, the touch of your lips, the touch of your finger tips and an even deeper connection to your soul.”
From Maria, Wednesday, July 9, 2008 8:14 p.m.
“As I told you I shouldn't have done this trip but I would have felt worst if I wouldn't have come because it was too over the date, he is a very nice guy, great heart ... but unfortunately I am not in love with him ... You are my love ... something hard to believe even for myself as it's also a kind of impossible love, not only because of distance but situation. Sometimes you don't choose things, they just happen... I can't redirect my feelings and I am very happy with mine towards you.”

From Gov. Sanford, Tuesday, July 8, 1:42 a.m.
“Got back an hour ago to civilization and am now in Columbia after what was for me a glorious break from reality down at the farm. No phones ringing and tangible evidence of a day's labors. Though I have started every day by 6 this morning woke at 4:30, I guess since my body knew it was the last day, and I went out and ran the excavator with lights until the sun came up. To me, and I suspect no one else on earth, there is something wonderful about listening to country music playing in the cab, air conditioner running, the hum of a huge diesel engine in the back ground, the tranquillity that comes with being in a virtual wilderness of trees and marsh, the day breaking and vibrant pink coming alive in the morning clouds - and getting to build something with each scoop of dirt.”
And this was sent over email, meaning...the whole world will get to see this
Good stuff. I'm casting Hex Spheres for its quick induction.
"To oppose this bill because you object to [gay or transgender people] is to fight the culture wars on the back of a child."So True
The former chair of the Democratic party now has a "scheduling conflict" for a fundraiser on behalf of the organization he used to run. Dean is one of the four top names on the invite - he's throwing the event, and now even he's not going.
It's interesting that the very heterosexual Howard Dean is willing to take a stronger stand for civil rights than our own gay elected representatives, Barney Frank, Tammy Baldwin, and Jared Polis. That Howard Dean is willing to take a stronger stand for the gay community
A Dean spokeswoman, Karen Finney, stressed that Dean's move was a scheduling conflict due to a "family commitment."
These guidelines will be included in handbook used by management. There will be other info added as the draft continues to come together.
“The president is making a very clear statement that transgender people won’t be discriminated against."
The provisions will help give transgender workers avenues within the federal government to protest a job action as discriminatory, though Ms. Keisling added, “There is also a very important symbolic value to that, from our point of view.”
I have to say, they are moving these issues along. I am very happy to see this come together.
Dear Friends:Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view. Obama and Hitler use the "blitzkrieg" method to overwhelm their enemies. FAST, CARPET BOMBING intent on destruction. Hitler's blitzkrieg bombing destroyed many European cities - quickly and effectively. Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE.
We too CAN fight back. Contact everyone you know. Start a blitzkrieg of our own. Shut down the Capitol switchboards and the White House switchboards! Say NO to the Obamination of Obama Care!
These women are not invited to the Peace conference at Themyscira
"Tomorrow we will have a good time," Diaz Sr. told the DN's Glenn Blain. "Maybe I'm not upset. Maybe I solve the whole the problem tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow we come to an agreement and decide who's really in control."
"Maybe tomorrow...Maybe. I don't know. I'm not saying anything...Who is asking me that? I don't know. Who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow. Tomorrow is always uncertain. Tomorrow may never come."
I don't know, maybe you will be defeated, Ruben? Let's hope so.
More on this later
"I'm sure Chisler, as she sips her champagne and eats her fancy French hors d'oeuvres to commemorate the gays and lesbians who rioted for her civil rights 40 years ago, will do her best to hold the president's feet to the fire.
Please.
You should see her quotes in the article, how she wasn't satisfied by the "limited benefits" provided for in the memo the president signed last Wednesday. Yeah, real unsatisfied - that's why she stood over him clapping like a giddy schoolkid, providing him the political cover he needed at a time that our community needed her.
I seriously hope someone looks into who the donors are for this apologist organization. No gay person should ever give a dime to the Family Equality Council again. Ever."
Timothy Kincaid at Box Turtle Bulletin discovered quite a bit of business in the military newspaper Stars and Stripes. So, you say, it's confirmed it's HRC and then turn around to say that, One can only assume it is referring to HRC...that's misleading and assuming.
One can only assume it is referring to HRC, since it is our lobbying org on the Hill: An official with the House Democratic leadership said the House is committed to repealing "don't ask" but has agreed with civil rights groups to put new hate crime legislation and a workplace nondiscrimination bill on the legislative calendar before taking up the military issue.
"President Obama remains committed to a legislative repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, which he believes will provide a durable and lasting solution to this issue. He welcomes the commitment of these members to seeing Congress take action."
