While we Continue to Fight among Ourselves, NOM makes their Move

Folks, I knew this would happen. As we deal with our views and continue our love/hate relationship with Obama, NOM has start making their play for New York.
National Organization for Marriage is promising to spend $500,000 underwriting a primary campaign against any Republican who votes for gay marriage.

Gay rights groups are lobbying Republican senators hard on the vote, as a handful would need to switch sides to pass the measure.

"Gay marriage is not high on the list of any voters' priorities, but again and again we've seen politicians respond to political money thrown around by Tim Gill and his friends and ignore the wishes of their own constituents," said Brian Brown, executive director of the anti-same-sex-marriage organization, who said the group is forming a subsidiary, NOM PAC New York, for the purpose.

"The first half million dollars will be used in GOP primaries," noted Brown, "but we are also looking to aid Democratic candidates who want to buck the establishment on the marriage issue, and to help in general election contests."

The group says it's raised more than $6 million since July 2007, the largest part of it to fight Proposition 8 in California. In New York and throughout the Northeast, marriage foes have been outgunned and out-organized by gay rights groups with deeper ties to local politicians, and NOM appears to be aiming to change that.

This is what we need to put our energies in. The more we attack our allies, the easier it will be for our real enemies to strike. Of course we will disgree and have opposing views, but we should never forget who the true monsters are.

We should push for our rights, but let's not use all of our resources fighting each other. We need that power to take down NOM.

We also need to be aware of the impending challenge to Maine's marriage law. There are groups collecting signatures to take the newly passed law to the voters. This could delay and overturn marriage in Maine before any same-sex couples are married. There is more info at www.equalitymaine.org.
