Cuomo set to run for NY Governor

Fan favorite and native New Yorker, Andrew Cuomo may be running for NY Governor.
If this is true, Cuomo could spell trouble for David Paterson.

Sources say popular Attorney General Andrew Cuomo is set to run for governor, but is “playing it smart” by waiting to announce his intentions. "He will make an announcement at the end of March. And what he will say is that he intends to run for governor. ... He thinks there are a lot of problems in the state and he thinks he can help solve them," one insider told the NY Daily News.

His spokesman declined comment and Cuomo himself said "I'm focused on being attorney general" but experts think that—in light of Gov. Paterson’s recent scandals and foibles—the high-rated attorney general is the man for the job. "Let's not run a third-string quarterback if there is a first-string quarterback in the game. We should be talking to Andrew Cuomo," said Upstate Party Chief Larry Bulman. In recent polls Cuomo had a favorable 64 percent job approval rating, compared with Paterson’s measly 31 percent. He’s out-fundraised the troubled governor too—he has $16 million in his arsenal, whereas Paterson has scraped up only $3 million.

Should Paterson be worried? Yes, he should.

Gov. David Paterson says, Skip you Obama, I'm running for Office

Gov. Paterson is not going quietly into the night. He said he's not bowing out and he is still running or office.

"My plans for 2010 are to run for governor of the state of New York," Paterson said Sunday after serving as grand marshal to the African-American Day Parade in Manhattan. "I am running for office."

Paterson's remarks come amid mounting pressure from Washington and within New York to drop out because of his low poll numbers and concerns from other Democrats that he might hurt their chances in 2010.

"I think the White House is very concerned about 2010," said Lee Miringoff of the Marist College poll, which last week found Paterson mired in some of the lowest approval ratings of any New York governor.

"They are worried that Paterson's pick for the U.S. Senate, (Kirsten) Gillibrand, might be vulnerable," Miringoff said. "They are also worried they might lose that seat and they want the head of the ticket to be stronger than Paterson's numbers are."

Asked if he was concerned about losing some Democratic support because of his low poll numbers, Paterson said: "No, I feel like in this very difficult economic time, just about all the governors are facing the same types of problems."

I didn't know David was going through it, should he fight till the end or just get out?

Gov. David Paterson says... One more Try!

New York Governor David Paterson has not given up on gay marriage. In fact, he may call a special session later in the season to try it again...

“I am anticipating a special session and I am anticipating this is one of the issues that we will address,” Paterson told The Advocate Thursday night, shortly after leaving a meeting that included representatives from the Empire State Pride Agenda, the Human Rights Campaign, and Gill Action Fund. State senator Thomas Duane joined the discussion by phone.

A special session is almost a foregone conclusion at this point, according to people familiar with the situation in Albany. But assembly speaker Sheldon Silver said this week that he would like to pound out the details of a budget deal before agreeing to hold one. “They want to have a framework before we come back,” said Paterson. “But I do think because of the deficit we’re going to have to come back and hopefully we'll have an agreement.”

I have to give him credit, he's not a quitter. Maybe this time, progress can be made.

Gay Marriage in New York is No. 1 on the List

Today, Gov. David Paterson is putting gay marriage back on the table.

However, the demon, Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr., has something up his sleeve...he can't be trusted.

"Tomorrow we will have a good time," Diaz Sr. told the DN's Glenn Blain. "Maybe I'm not upset. Maybe I solve the whole the problem tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow we come to an agreement and decide who's really in control."

"Maybe tomorrow...Maybe. I don't know. I'm not saying anything...Who is asking me that? I don't know. Who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow. Tomorrow is always uncertain. Tomorrow may never come."

I don't know, maybe you will be defeated, Ruben? Let's hope so.

Gov. Paterson ain't feeling the Religious Leaders

Gov. Paterson is a bit tired of the religious leaders in New York running their mouths.

At the a gay marriage rally in Albany, Gov. Paterson said:

"You see, the fact is that for years these same individuals - many of them, not all of them, but many of them - who pronounced religious doctrine did not exercise it when young gay and lesbian students were being chastised for expressing their point of view. Where were these leaders of faith when college students of gay and lesbian orientation were beaten and often brutalized for expressing their feelings for each other? …

All I’m saying is: Why didn’t they speak about that at the time when it was the other way around? See what really makes a democracy work is when you speak for others rights even when you disagree with them. I’m saying most of the religious leaders that I hear speaking out now did not do it at the time. Had they done so I think they would have better moral standing to speak at this moment on this legislation even though I disagree with them."

And he's right...Where are they when stuff is really going on? When folks need real guidance are they available? And why do we only hear from them when gay marriage pops up? Do they even know what their role is?

I think it's time to deal with their foolishness by taxing the Hell out of them and their churches. They need to be put in their place. This is a way to get it started.

New York could be Next on the Gay Marriage Train

Gov. David Paterson will be presenting legislation to legalize gay marriage in New York.

In my former home in Ithaca, Paterson said on a local radio station:

"We'll put a bill out and let the people decide one way or the other."

In the past, a similar bill died in the Senate. Paterson will put the bill back on table and if it passes, he will sign it into law. I have admit, it will be a pretty interesting to see how New York reacts to this gesture.

The bill will be presented on April 28th.
