Endangered Species
"It’s really very difficult at the moment. There are no black models on the market, the agencies have none."
That's what Jean-Paul Gaultier is saying about the lack of Black models at this year's Paris fashion week. For some reason, nobody can find any Black models to work. It's either, they are not in the agency or just not around. And it's just not the Black girls that are MIA, it's other girls of color as well.
So what's the problem? Where are the girls? I'm sure they can find models of color, hell, they can call Tyra Banks for can help, or Iman. Models of color do exist, the designers just need to demand their presence.
I believe the designers have the power. Without the designers' works of art, there is no fashion. They control the field and the overall rat race. If they wanted to, they can shut the show down. So, it shouldn't be hard to change the look of the catwalk, maybe the desire to do so should be called to question.
