My 2009's Good and Bad moments in the LGBT World

2009 was a big year for us.

However, I wanted to touch on a few things I noticed in the past year.

Good
More LGBT folks were appointed by Obama, than any other president. John Berry, Brian Bond, Amanda Simpson and Sharon Lubinski joined the Administration and we hope to see great things from them.

Bad
The marriage losses cut deep. We had set-backs but no worries, we will get back on track.

Good
The LGBT community came together in more marches, riots and events. We made people realize we were here & queer.

Bad
Our community got a bit carried away with the haterade. Within 5 months, the community start labeling Obama as a fraud and a traitor. I blame millennials because they want everything now, but the drama did show our best side.

Good
Many LGBT bloggers were out spreading the gospel. Some like Joe.My.God, Law Dork and Rod 2.0 kept us informed about the in & outs of the Gay world.

Bad
Several bloggers were more trouble than what they are worth. John Aravosis, for example, push many misconceptions that were over-dramatic or just wrong. Others like Dan Savage claimed to be speaking for us, when it was truly & only their point of view. I hope somebody had a chat with them over their mess. We really don't need them stirring a pot of foolishness in 2010.

Good
We did win marriage equality in Iowa and D.C. and Latin America!

Good
National Equality March got over 200,000 folks out at our nation's capital.

Bad
But after the march was done the co-founders resigned, Equality Across America organization is up in the air and Cleve Jones' image may have been tarnished by egos and power struggles.

Good
Obama addressed our community a lot.

Bad
Obama could do more to challenge Congress on our issues. Hopefully, he will get the firepower he needs in 2010.

Bad
No clear plans from the HRC.

Good
Hate Crimes Law passed.

Bad
We lost many LGBT youth from horrible crimes and murder.

Good
Progress is being made on major LGBT issues.

Bad: The term 'Haterade' has not grown into the public vernacular at large.

Great list, and I agree with you, we have made stides, and we have had setbacks, but all movements of change go through this sort of ebb and flow.
Happy New Year, Wonderman.

Nice list - although I would put your name among the bloggers doing good. Thanks for all you do!

I continue to hope our community will start reacting with less emotion and more reason, and the 'leaders' try to listen rather than just talking. We are a vast and diverse community, and flippant answers don't speak for all of us.

Great, succinct list V.I'm sure you are not surprised I agree with you. We moved forward on many counts and we have had some setbacks, but nothing we can't fix.
