Nope, I'm Still Sleeping With Him.

Dan Savage asked the question: Was Obama an One-Night Stand?

My answer... No.

As most of y'all know, I support Obama. He has done more for us than any president and in time, we will get our share. I understand the truth about politics and I knew it wouldn't be a smooth ride. Our equality will be an uphill battle. I never believed gay equality was coming within a year, but I know it's coming.

However, Dan is still feeling betrayed, lost, lied to and fooled by Obama.

Please check out Dan's article, here. I think he's still bitter and ranting about nothing new, but I would love to hear your thoughts about this.

Savage likes to bitch about things whenever he gets a chance; and sometimes he makes constructive points, but most often than not it's just a tirade.

Should we all feel a bit betrayed, lost, and lied to; yes, probably to some extent. There is no doubt there is a very stark difference between Obama the candidate and Obama the President, more so than we would expect once a candidate takes office. Nevertheless, I said on my blog, "it's a classic case of hype and optimism coming into contact with the hard reality that is Washington politics."

However, Savage's rhetoric is just way too far out there for sensible people to make anything of it besides a bitch session.

I agree with you. It's frustrating, and I wish DADT had been abolished but am giving him the benefit of the doubt since we really don't want some of those military policies dictated by executive order. If they go through the proper channels, maybe they'll stay in place. He has a lot on his plate, and it won't happen overnight.

It is easy to criticize someone when you aren't even close to being in their shoes, so I think Dan Savage can rant all he wants to, but I seriously doubt he could do any better given the presidency. We have to give Obama time and breathing room. Right now his main concern needs to be keeping the republic moving forward economically and trying to push some universal items on his agenda. Let's be realistic. We probably won't see any huge GLBT issues dealt with until a second term, when the political fallout will be mute. Anything we get before then is more than we have now and I think we should be grateful if he is able to focus on any of our agenda or make any changes while president. It doesn't make me happy to say that, but I feel anything else is unrealistic.

I agree with the above post. Dan Savage is nothing but a mouth piece with NOTHING to say. Sorry, but I support Obama.
I knew he wasn't going to come in on a white horse and make everything okay in the blink of an eye. This is politics. This is a democracy. Bureacracy and red tape are par for the damn course.
