Azealia gets GLAAD and others hounding after her, Dan... no one. Now before anyone tries to say that Dan used it differently, please remember that a slur is a slur; you can't pretty it up. If it's shit, it's shit regardless if you Fabrezed it and put a pink bow on it.

I'm not defending Azealia here, I'm just pointing out the bias and privilege besetting this entire mess. If she gets called out, then keep it consistent and call out everybody else.

Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council — First of all, they tell, Tony Perkins tells parents whose kids come out to reject them. Tony Perkins tells the parents of queer kids to do what Tony Perkins damn well knows drives those kids to suicide — doubles their already quadruple rate of suicide. Why would someone who calls themselves a Christian do that? Because every dead gay kid is a victory for the Family Research Council. They argue that the gay lifestyle is sick and sinful and dangerous and they point to the suicide rate, and then they turn around and do everything in their power to make sure that suicide rate does not come down and to drive it up. Tony Perkins sits on a pile of dead gay kids every day when he goes to work — and he calls himself a Christian. I don’t understand how real Christians let that little fucker get away with that.

We will always have ignorant dicks like Michele Bachmann and her fag husband.

Once again, he uses the F-word, which steals all the credibility of his message. Still he gets a pass.

Imagine if any GOProud member said the exact same thing.

Dan Savage's Response to the use of F-Word just got Worse

In a response to GOProud and the use of the F-word, Dan Savage wrote an interesting piece.

Here's the part that baffled the frak out of me.

And "faggot" is a word I've used to describe myself (on MSNBC!), it's a term I've used to describe my husband (in books!), it's a term my friends and I use to describe each other (all the time!). "Faggot" isn't an insult in my book—that's why I had to stick the word "house" in front of it.

Really, Dan? This is your answer? If so, this is a horrible response. He doesn't think it's an insult, so he can use this word anytime, all-time.

Well, Dan... There are millions of us who would greatly disagree with you. There are millions of us who remember the first time we heard that word. We remember the impact of the F-word and how deep that word cut when it was hurled at us.

But for you to think of it as a play name amongst friends... That's the insult. 

And the fact you head up a national campaign that views the F-word as an insult, that's really screwed up.

Dan Savage and F-Word: The Responses

So I wrote a piece about Dan Savage and his use of the F-word. I had a lot responses via e-mail and Twitter, but a good chunk of them were defending Dan.

I have to say I was shocked, mostly by the reasons they were giving me.

- Some were saying that it was fair because it was a gay man addressing another gay man.
- Or that Dan has done so much for us that he can say whatever he wants.
- And he should go after GOProud, they deserved it.

Well, that's cute, but not good reasons. In fact, they are cheap excuses I have to address.

1.  I think it's horrible for a gay person to attack another gay person with the F-word. It's done out of anger and it's geared to hurt.
2. Dan is not the gay messiah, so stop treating him like one. He's just an outspoken sex columnist. There are far more effective leaders in our community with more accomplishments and less foot-in-mouthritis.
3. And this ain't about GOProud. It was interesting to see how folks blamed GOProud on why Dan used the F-word. It's not their fault, it's Dan's. He wasn't thinking and he said something stupid. Pure and simple.
4. Stop trying to make Dan the victim, just hold him accountable.
5. Defending him opens the door to the Double Standard room. And there's no integrity in the Double Standard room.

 I know he's a hero to some, but heroes have their flaws. In order for them to be better at their game, they have to grow from their mistakes. And if you are a true fan of his, you should help him do better.

Dan Savage, Using 'House Faggot' is Not Okay

Yesterday, GOProud announced their support for Mitt Romney. They put out a press release and took a couple pics to show their declaration. Well, after that announcement, Dan Savage went on Twitter and tweeted his response.

He said: "The GOP's house faggots grab their ankles, right on cue."
Interesting quote to say the least. Dan was so upset that he just had to use the word "faggot" in his tweet.

Now, I know there are Dan fans that will say: "That's Dan," and "That's Dan style, he has always been that way." Okay, but it is still unacceptable. Dan's use of the F-word punches holes in his credibility. How are you going to tell millions of LGBT youth that the F-word is horrible and then turn around use towards another gay person?

I don't care if he was angry, it was still a stupid thing to say. And I'm a little bothered about how quiet the blogosphere is about this. If GOProud's co-founder Chris Barron had said the exact same thing, there would have been smoke in the city. In fact, the majority of the gay blogs would have made a mini-series out of the matter.
Dan should be held accountable for the using F-word. In fact, I would like to see GLAAD address the issue. They usually call out celebrities for using homophobic language in the media, so the least they can do is ask him for an apology. To ignore Dan's statement basically says that certain people have the right to use hateful statements. I'm sorry, but we can not allow that. No one should have pass to say the F-word.

If we want people to take our battle and cause seriously, we have to do the same. So I challenge us to hold Dan Savage accountable for his poor use of words. There was no excuse for it and we shouldn't try to provide one for him.

Dan Savage Apologizes (Kind of) for his Speech at the Journalist Conference

Dan apologized on The Slog for his speech at the National High School Journalist Conference. However, he still stayed true to the message about Christianity.

Here's some of his statement:

I'm not guilty of saying anything that hasn't been said before and—yes—said much better. What is "bullshit" in this context but "upwards of a thousand lies" in modern American English? And while those slamming me most loudly for "pansy-assed" may be on the right, they are also in the right. I see their point and, again, I apologize for describing the walk-out as "pansy-assed." But they are wrong when they claim that I "attacked Christianity." There are untrue things in the Bible—and the Koran and the Book of Mormon and every other "sacred" text—and you don't have to take my word for it: just look at all the biblical "shoulds," "shall nots," and "abominations" that religious conservatives already choose to ignore. They know that not everything in the Bible is true. All Christians read the Bible selectively. Some read it hypocritically—and the hypocrites react very angrily when anyone has the nerve to point that out.

Dan Savage pissed off some Christian Teens at the National High School Journalist Conference

Dan Savage served a sassy, but truthful dish at the National High School Journalist Conference in Seattle. Dan basically gave real talk about how Christians misuse the Bible for their own benefit. As he was talking, the Jesus kids got up and left. I guess if they were in same situation as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, they would fail. Anywho, see the drama for yourself.
Apparently, GOProud's human Ken doll was upset.

"Dan Savage should apologize for his comments and should apologize to the high school students in attendance whom he called ‘pansy-asses,’” Jimmy LaSalvia told Fox. “It is ironic that someone whose claim to fame is fighting bullying would resort to bullying tactics in attacking high school students who were offended by his outrageous remarks.” 

Bitch, please. Nobody was attacked. What Dan said was a real and the truth... Wow, I'm siding with Dan Savage. Hell, should be freezing now. source

The Glitter Bombing of Dan Savage sparks Interesting dialogue

So Dan Savage was glitterbombed again by trans activists. This time may have been questionable, however these incidents made me think about a few things.

• When it comes to our 'favorites' or 'stars' with our community, do we tend to look the other way? In Dan's case, I feel that we do. He has been known for saying some stupid things towards Trans, Black and Bi people. If anyone calls him out on it, some within the community runs to his defense, saying how dare we call him out. He's an Ally for us! Interesting, so I guess we can't hold him accountable for his not-so-cute remarks? If this was Christopher Barron (not defending him here), we would be all over him like fashion on Iman. I can't tell how many comments I've seen from JMG and Towleroad, contridicting themselves. They are quick to say 'Why are they (Trans) attacking their own?', but in the same breath say, 'Christopher Barron needs to be attack!' The gag is both of them are gay and have said hurtful things to the members our community, but it seems that Dan gets a pass.

• And speaking of a pass... Some will say that Dan was transphobic, racist or biphoic, but now he's changed, so we need to forgive him. Okay, I can say that about Ken Melhman and folks would try to stake me like a vampire. Ken was an anti-gay marriage clod, then later he came out and fought for marriage equality. However, bloggers and others will not allow him to change or have a 2nd chance. Ken was the enemy and many would love to see him jump through hoops for our approval. But if that's the case for Ken, should Dan go through the hoops too?

Now, don't get me wrong, I know Dan's not a bad guy. He has done some good stuff,  but he is not above criticism or critique. He has flaws and he makes mistakes. And that's okay, but the minute we start treating him and others A-Listers like Gods, we do ourselves a disservice.

So let's not put LGBT bloggers or personalities on high horses, let's keep them grounded  and real.

Dan Savage Gets Glitterbombed by Trans Activists

There are reports that Dan Savage was glitterbombed by Trans activists. Now, if you don't know, Dan is not the complete darling of the LGBT community. However, the issues from the Trans community were ready to pop. Here's the scoop of the ordeal from the DSWM.

 On November 1st, 2011, an operative of the Dan Savage Welcoming Committee (DSWM)     glitterbombed Dan while he was giving a Q&A at the University of Nike's Ford Alumni Center in Eugene, Oregon. During this session, the operative leapt to the stage and poured glitter over Dan's head as they shouted, "Dan Savage is a transphobe!" As they turned tail, they added, "Glitterbomb courtesy of the Dan Savage Welcoming Committee," and just before they got out the door, "He's a racist and misogynist and a rape-apologist, too!" The operative then fled the scene.

The DSWC is a memberless organization, and the only point of unity is that we have a problem with Dan Savage for anti-oppressive reasons. We encourage others who share our sentiments to let him know exactly how they feel wherever he goes. He has a huge voice due to his fame; we have to be creative to get heard over the din.

Savage, who was on hand to tape an installment of his MTV show "Savage U," has faced allegations of both being transphobic and biased against bisexuals in the past. In 2010, he openly criticized Washington State Attorney General Rob McKenna, noting, "It's staggering that Rob McKenna, a female-to-male transsexual, is making it harder for other FTMs (and MTFs) to access the life saving sex-reassignment surgery that allowed Rob to become the man he is today." (McKenna, who is married with four children, is not actually transgendered). Similarly, Savage's earlier use of the term "shemale" in several of his "Savage Love" columns generated heat from transgender rights activists, as did his decision to title one piece "Bad Tranny."

Though he has yet to comment on the glitterbomb incident, Savage dismissed the allegations to David Badash of The New Civil Rights Movement, noting that his view of the transgender community had shifted considerably in recent years.

Hopefully, his view of the Black community will considerably shift too.

Dan Savage Wishes All Republicans were F**king Dead and later Apologizes for it

Oh Dan... Always saying something silly or stupid, like a transgender slur or blaming Black people for Prop 8. Well, this time he wishes the Repubs were f**king dead. Just watch.

Unlike the examples I gave above, he actually apologized for it.

I regret it and I retract it and I apologize to anyone watching at home — particularly my father (!) — who may have heard me say it. "President Obama should address gay rights in his State of the Union speech this week, and he should tackle the biggest, most meaningful right of them all: the right to marry. Gay Americans are eventually going to win on marriage just like we won on military service, the president should tell Congress, so why not save everyone on both sides of the debate a lot of time, trouble and money by approving the entire gay rights agenda?"

Okay, I do believe he should address it, but right now, folks want to hear about jobs and the economy. Plus, with Health Reform is being attacked, President Obama needs to sell Health Care again and remind the public about the great deal they have in this reform.

And to be real, I rather hear about ENDA. I mean, I want to get married; but I want to know I have a job to pay for my LV themed wedding and the approved vacation days to go to Hawaii for the honeymoon. I really think if we push anything, ENDA should be first.

Also, President Obama should remind the public about DADT. If anything, he needs to talk about the success of repealing DADT and how there is more to come for equality. He could plant the seeds and set us up for the cute garden in the summer... Okay, that was a weird analogy, but I think you get what I'm saying.
