Interesting Quote: Meghan McCain

Let me get something straight: Bristol Palin, as an eighteen-year-old adult, is free to make her own choices and decide how she wants her life to unfold. But for whatever reasons, the American public and media remain overly engrossed in our politicians' sex lives and, as in this case, those of their families. There's an especially unhealthy attitude among conservatives. Daughters of Republican politicians aren't expected to have sex, let alone enjoy it--as if there were some strange chastity belt automatically attached to us female offspring. God forbid anyone talk realistically about life experiences and natural, sexual instincts. Nope, the answer is always abstinence.

I agree with her to a certain extent. While I also think it is a problem how obsessed the media gets around a sex story involving a public official (whereas in Europe politicians constantly have affairs and nobody cares, or at least as much), Sarah Palin is a different apple.

The fundamental issue here is that Sarah Palin wants to take away that choice for all of America's women, not just her daughter. Palin talked about thinking about getting an abortion once before the baby was born, but she decided against it, in her world she does not want to give women that option.

And on abstinence Bristol Palin initially said it doesn't work, but now comes back into the spotlight and campaigns for abstinence (likely because her mother's campaign puts pressure on her). It is a program that does not work, hurts women and men, and brings up hundreds of unwanted pregnancies. The fact of the matter is not every unsuspecting teen mother lives in the governor's mansion and has that support.

I almost hate to say it but she is what the Republican party should become.

It'll never happen of course and I see a proclamation of being a Democrat coming from Ms. McCain any day now.
