Are we getting a Female Doctor Who?

Lara Pulver could be the next Doctor
It started as a rumor, but now this could be true. The next Doctor could be a woman.

Here's the scoop:
The show’s bosses are planning to change the character’s gender after half a century, with Sherlock star Lara Pulver, 31, pictured, being tipped among the front runners for the role.

Insiders say a dramatic twist will see current Time Lord Matt Smith, 29, regenerate into a new female character when next year’s series reaches its dramatic climax.

“The 50th anniversary series will end with a very big twist,” we’re told. “The Doctor becoming a woman will give the show a new lease of life.”

If this is real, this will be great.

please please please let this be true.
If Doctor Who wants to keep growing and being amazing it needs to keep changing. I couldn't stand anything about the show by the end of Tennant's run: His eyebrow-acting, Davies' wrting. Catherine Tate, goddess of gingers and comedy even started to ware on my nerves. Matt Smith's doctor is just about to get to that point. This would be a great change.

Vik, do you think it would be more dramatic for him to turn into a woman over a person of color?? I'm not sure, which would incite more anger from die hard fans.

As liberal minded as I am, no, I hope they don't. Or let it be a temporary thing... God. Just when I thought the current series of Doctor Who couldn't get any worse.
