12 Things Black LGBT folks need to do NOW!

Okay, it's time for more Black LGBT folks to step up and represent. Now, I'm not saying that it's not happening, but we can do more. So, I have some ideas on what we can do to get on point.
  1. Vote in all elections. Yes, Obama is key; but we need to make sure the right congressperson or Governor is in office.
  2. Come Out!
  3. Mentor someone trying to find their way.
  4. Stand up to religious leaders and hold them accountable for their bigotry and lies.
  5. Be visible.
  6. Not only join LGBT organizations, but get on the board.
  7. Get involved in community organizing.
  8. Write a blog explaining your experiences. There are kids looking for examples, stories, and someone to connect with.
  9. Become more savvy about current events, not just on Beyonce.
  10. Be proud of who you are.
  11. Learn LGBT history. We should learn where we been, in order to know where to go.
  12. Become more politically aware.

I think #2 should be #1.

so does this mean you're going to blog less about wonder woman and more about the problems facing gay black men in a white dominated movement?

ha! No, I'll still blog about both of them.

That's right you blog about both. That's one of the reasons I like this site.
By the by let's also remember to stay healthy and think positive.

I couldn't agree with you more on this. With so much progress we are making in the LGBT community, I feel it is vitally important that we make our presence known, especially LGBT people of color. The only way change can be made is strength in numbers, not sitting by and waiting for the government to do their job because they never care until you put your foot in their ass. With all the celebrity gossip and entertainment news I do, I always try to balance it with something educational and inspiring that people need to look more into because I truly believe knowledge is power. I'm going to share this post with my Facebook and Twitter followers.

Thank you, Kris. I really think it's time we start representing and owning our identities

I need to work on the following #'s:

#5. Although I'm out to the people that I love, I'm not out to everyone, but I'm also not trying to hide who I am. . .this also my go along with #2

#6. Joining an organization is one of the top things I want to do once I move. I eventually want to develop my own organization, so that'll tie in with #7.

#9 But I keep up with your blog and others, so I'm good :-). . .however, I want to work on being more savvy. #12 is a biggie because I really hate politics, just because of people's ethics.

Overall, I feel good about the things I have done to add my little of piece of help to the community. I hope it's reaching out to those looking for it. I see nothing but growth, and it's been a pretty cool journey so far.
