So I just saw Clash of the Titans and I don't know what to think.
While the flick was cute, it wasn't super better than the original. In fact, the original was better.
However, I will give my review in bullet form:
- This version was very MALE heavy. Not much for the women characters. For example, the Goddesses had speaking parts and one of them played an important role in the film. In the new one, none of them spoke.
- Perseus whined too much about being a half-god.
- Io was the love interest, not Andromeda.
- Thetis, who demanded the Kraken to take Andromeda, was not in the movie.
- Hades was the main villain, and he sucked.
- The origin of Calibos was better in the original, the new version was silly.
- Sam was hot as Perseus, but Harry played him better.
- Medusa was also better in the original.
- What was interesting was the use of the Djinn in this movie. The idea was cute.
- The Kraken in this version was over dramatic and under used.
- Bubo made an appearance in this version.
- They fought a lot in this film.
- It was more like 300 meets Harry Potter.

Awww, a disappointing review. Greg really wants to see this movie, and we may go today. He's been talking about it for weeks.
I am sorry to hear this, but not surprised at all. I love the original. I saw it in the theater in 1981, and watch it on DVD every now and again because I do love the movie. While I am not opposed to remakes, or now the buzzword is "reimagining". I think they should at least strive to be better at presenting the story or it is a waste of time. This one sounds like it's a waste of time. It is impossible to replace Maggie Smith in anything, but to remove her character altogether is disgraceful. The whole story revolved around the vanity of women. I will still see it, but I know now that I won't like it.
too bad...
was kinda looking forward to this. might still see it, in my usual way, but if you're right, it may never sit on my DVD bookshelves...
oh well!!
anyway, blockbuster season starts in about 2 months. something oughta be good in the lot.

How am I not surprised? The trailers didn't make much of an impression on me and somehow, even with the chintzy Harryhausen stop-motion animation, the first film worked better. And removing the importance of the goddesses is pretty much like taking Meryl from any movie she's in---you just don't do it, not if her character drives the story!
I'll wait for the DVD this time and save me some change for the next cute indie, or the next Sex and the City installment, as bad as THAT might potentially be.
we have all seen the old version,my opinion not much to choose, special effects make the difference and yes it is worth seeing.dont make my mistake and go to a chinese picture house.
I was expecting this.
The original had to rely on brill acting coz the special effects were so unerfined (altho I am a HUGE fan of stop motion animation)
CGI and all the "reimaginings" dont necessarily mean better - after all - who can do a diva moment better than Maggie/Thetis ???
so, seen it now.
while it will not achieve cult status as the original, if you avoid comparing, it's fine. and since i have a mild crush on Sam...i'm in a forgiving mood...
:D~

I think your review is getting bad reviews! :)
What we really wanna know was it worth paying $12+ to see it in 3-d? How much male skin do we get to see?
no skin, Sam is cute
This was horrible horrible HORRENDOUS!
Please rent the original instead.
Oh yes I was pissed about Thetis and Medusa.
