Surge in Anti-Gay Hate Crimes in Santa Clara County

What really going on in Santa Clara County?

Since last year, the folks in that area saw a huge surge in anti-gay madness.
In fact, the anti-gay incidents were more than half of hate-crime cases last year. These crimes included graffiti/ vandalism, disturbing the peace and assault and battery. So there were some violence in the South bay.

In the Mercury News,
Leslie Bulbuk, president of BAYMEC, a regional political action group representing the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community stated:

"When there's a lot more information about gays and lesbians on TV or in the news, it brings out the worst in people who have an inherent bias against groups they don't belong to. It seems like visibility makes people come out of the woodwork.''

From the group Protect Marriage, Frank Schubert said:

"I certainly hope Proposition 8 did not result in more crime. But if it did, it did so on both sides.''

Whatever is happening in that county, in seems that everyone is feeling the pain. Hopefully things will get better and drama will calm down.
