What makes a gay soldier different from a straight soldier?

Gay and straight service members risk their lives to protect our country. But, the military is forced to treat them differently because of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act.

Considering it was the military who kind of triggered the removal of racist laws and regulations from society, so too it will remove one of the more enduring anti-gay laws on the books, DOMA.
