I say it was appropriate, after all they visited the Market St. and Mission Districts too.
People just get bugged out about gay people because they can't imagine it. Look at the two basketball players holding hands. That went over like the proverbial lead balloon with the bigots.
I actually agree with the mother. I've been to The Castro and you can literally see naked people walking down the street. Moreover, there are porn shops on every corner. Granted, I enjoyed that very much...But I feel it is not age appropriate. This is why I feel they should erect (no pun intended)age appropriate gay invents and spaces so that children can learn about gay contributions to history. Even if I was a gay parent I would not want my kid going on a field trip through Castro.
