Interesting Quote: Benjamin Jealous

If gay rights groups want to change the opinion polls in the black community, they have to invest in it. It’s a long-term conversation. The battle to oppose Prop 8 could have been much better run. They came to the black community late, with the expectation that they were going to get certain results.

I think here Ben hit the nail on the head. Going into Prop 8 there was a clear sense of "We've got this in the bag" mentality, which made the passing even more shocking I think as suppose to the other states that passed similar measures.

I also think there the mentality in some realms of gay activism that thinks everything is peachy with the African-American community, at least pre-Prop 8.

There are people there willing to help and come together for sure, it's just a matter of connecting the dots.

Seriously agree. If the gay community fails to outreach to members of any community, or take anyone's vote for granted, it is OUR fail. Hopefully, we learn from our mistakes.
