I was shocked to ready this about Canada.
The number of crimes motivated by sexual orientation in Canada more than doubled from 2007 to 2008, according to the latest numbers from Statistics Canada.
Crimes against gays increased from 71 incidents in 2007 to 159 in 2008. Also disturbing is that in 75% of those instances, hate crimes were described as violent, involving assault or the uttering of threats. According to the LGBT human rights organization Egale Canada, an estimated 75% of hate crimes against LGBT people go unreported.
Wow, I thought they were way advanced than us. I guess it's hard for gay Canadians too.

Canada has a lot of Christian nutjobs too. In fact you get a lot of cross border stuff with the U.S.
That is what really drives homophobia, the religious spewing of invective against the LGBT community is coming home to roost.
I was pretty shocked to read that too.
V, most of these incidents occur outside of the major cities of the east (Montreal, Toronto, Quebec,) and between Vancouver. Canada's great plains provinces in between those places are just as socially conservative as the rural America. Hence, why I only eff with only the major cities in Canada...

Like here in Oregon, as a black man I was told that Portland and Salem and the outlying suburbs were cool places to be, but don't venture out of those areas.
