Characters from my Pilot, Shadow Boy

So, I'm working on the rewrites for the pilot of my supernatural series, Shadow Boy. Trying to catch all of the mistakes is stressful, but it's coming together.

I wanted to share with y'all some of the cast of the series and the premise.

Shadow Boy
A family crisis forces 19 year-old Brandon Hanks to leave Chicago, and live with his grandmother in the sleepy town of Marion, South Carolina. As he settles into his new home, Brandon meets the cavalier and handsome, Jackson Garrett. The chemistry between the two boys is instantaneous. However, things become complicated when Brandon learns that Jackson is a supernatural being, running from dark and deadly past.

CAST

BRANDON HANKS (19) – He's smart, a bit of a geek and very strong willed. He is also very guarded and keeps his deepest feelings hidden in a journal. Brandon just moved in with his grandmother and aunt in Marion, South Carolina, after a fallout with his stepfather. The incident was very tough for Brandon, but he manages to stay positive. This is his opportunity for a fresh start in Marion, especially after meeting Jackson.

JACKSON GARRETT (20) – He’s laid-back, charming, a little mischievous and not completely human. Jackson is a descendant from an ancient god, Pan. It’s something he's not comfortable with, but determined to make the best of the situation. Jackson's gifted with supernatural talents: psychic persuasion, controls shadows and element, and more. Jackson uses his powers carefully, but once he let loose, he is a force to be reckon with. Jackson has an interest in Brandon.

PATRICK (21) - Riddled with psychopathic qualities, Patrick is not a person to ignore. He, too, is a descendant of Pan and a former friend or ‘brother’ of Jackson. Patrick’s gifts are very different from Jackson’s. He revels in his powers by causing pain and chaos. Patrick also has a love/hate with Jackson. He would die for Jackson and at the same time, he wants to be one to kill him before anyone else can.

NANA – BEVERLY (58) – She is Brandon’s grandmother. Nana is a very warm and open person. She firmly believes in family first and gives nothing less than her whole heart in anything she does. Nana has lived in Marion all of her life and is very aware of everything, including some of the town’s deadly secrets.

KEN GARRETT (38) – As a war veteran from Desert Storm, Ken has seen his share of madness. But raising a supernatural son, (Jackson) clearly hikes up the bar. Both Jackson and Ken have had their ups and downs, but at the end of the day they love each other wholeheartedly. Ken is a bit of an aloof, but he is loyal and very caring.

MARY TREK (42) - Brandon's aunt. She is very headstrong and straightforward. She runs the family business, a diner called The Sock Hop. Mary is very glad to have Brandon in the house, especially after losing her own son in a violent death.

SUTTON JAMES CHASE (20) - Sutton is Marion's golden boy. He played football in high school, top college student and president of his frat. He's a humble person and very loyal to the people in his life. However, his loyalty to others run deep and sometimes too far. There is a hidden side to Sutton that can be a bit frightening, if provoked. Sutton also has a huge crush on Brandon, but knows that Jackson likes him as well. Still, he's determined to prove he's the better choice.

So, those are some of my characters.

In the TV series, Fringe, the Alternate Universe has Alternate Comics

In the season finale of Fringe, we saw the version of Earth 2 where JFK is still alive and comics were a tad bit different.
For example:

The Red Lantern
The Death of Batman
The Return of Superman
BTW, Joshua is looking so hot!

From Dreamgirls to Twilight... Bill Condon may direct the last of faux Vampire series

Merciful Minerva!

Bill Condon is very close to direct the last of the faux Vampire series, Twilight.
Bill Condon has emerged as the number one choice to direct the final two installments of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, I’m told.

Summit Entertainment hasn’t signed him, but I’m told that after several strong meetings, they are negotiating. Condon was among a list of A-list directors approved by Summit and Twilight author Stephenie Meyer.

Oh, well... Perhaps he can make it good? Maybe?
I hope he can do something to make it bearable. Bill did a great job with Dreamgirls, so it's possible.

Diva Moment... Weeping Angels

This particular episode "Blink" is what turned me on to Doctor Who.

The main reason were the Weeping Angels.

See why...

Want to hear something funny? Summit wants Real Directors to do the final Twilight movie

This is crazy talk, a drunken idea that escaped the bar... Summit wants top-notch directors to finish off the Twilight movie series:

Sources tell EW that the studio has reached out to at least three top-notch directors, including Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation), Gus Van Sant (Milk), and Bill Condon (Dreamgirls) to gauge their interest in what is likely to be two movies. (Van Sant’s reps confirmed that he’s been approached, but Coppola and Condon’s people didn’t return phone calls by press time. Summit declined to comment.)

They got balls, I give them that, however it's kind of insulting to ask these directors.

Maybe Brett Ratner, Joel Schumacher, Uwe Boll or Michael Bay will do it.

My ideas for a Smallville version of Wonder Woman

io9 asked, Where is a Wonder Woman Smallville?

I wondered about the same thing over the years. I mean, it worked in the 70s, and Superwomen: Xena and Buffy soared in the 90s.

Can this be done? Maybe.

However, Smallville is based from Clark's teen years in, Smallville. Diana was raised in Paradise Island or the proper name, Themyscira. She never left the island until she won the title of Wonder Woman.

So if this was made into a show, here are some ways (I think) to go about it.
Paradise: Make the story about Diana's teen adventures on the island. There could be many mysteries hidden there. Remember, Themyscira is in the Bermuda Triangle so there's bound to be something lingering about. Then, you have the Greek myths to play with, that could be fun. Also there could some stories about Queen Hippolyta's rule on the island. I can imagine many amazons not agreeing with the Queen or Hippi and her enemies that could threaten the island.

Diana, Year One: This series could be about Diana's first year in 'man's world'. We can see how her ancient/warrior upbringing conflict with the modern times of America. Also we can see her face her first big bad and her first heartbreak.
Those are some of my ideas for a WW show. I would be nice to see her in live action again.

Question of the Day

Dan Savage may get a show on HBO
A few Sloggers—and my boyfriend—are wondering why I've been in LA all month. I'm down here working on what's called "a non-airing presentation pilot for HBO." Or... "Savage Love," the (potential) TV show. According to a draft of press release that's sitting on my desk here at HBO—in my own office! with a lock on the door! I could be naked in here!—"Savage Love," the (potential) teevee show, "will focus on current events and cultural trends with sex as the filter." I'm hoping to bring a new kind of conversation to TV about sex—an honest conversation, one that's informed without being (too) wonky, funny without being (too) cruel, sexy without being (too) cheesy. Basically, my sex-advice column—but on the teevee!

So the question is... Would you watch it?

Now Available on DVD

One of the best and underrated supernatural series is out on DVD. Friday the 13th, the series is here.

Here's the premise:

An antique dealer who made a deal with Satan to sell cursed artifacts. The artifacts all brought the bearer some great benefit, but at a terrible price. When his conscience finally caught up with him, however, the devil turned on him and captured his soul. His co-worker, along with his nephew and his cousin, set out to reclaim all the artifacts and return them to a secured and consecrated vaults where the artifacts can do no more harm.

I loved, loved, loved this series. It was ahead of it's time. If you like mysteries, witches, occult, and families this is for you.

Southern Blood Suckers

So far I'm loving the new HBO series, True Blood. It's creepy, sexy, dangerous and alluring. Goddess, we needed a new and challenging supernatural series.

Thank you, Alan Ball. I hope you won't let me down.

Another One?

Surfing the nets can be damaging. Today I learned about a possible Scream 4, yes folks, Scream 4.
Jamie Kennedy, was in the series said this:

"I actually had a conversation with somebody very big in the organization, and there’s a way," he tells iF. "I don’t know what’s going to happen, but they have plans for a lot of things. You can see new faces that you wouldn’t expect and you can see old faces that you wouldn’t believe. There’s a way to bring a lot of things around."

When asked if director Wes Craven would be involved, Kennedy confirmed that it's "the only way they're going to do it."

I'm begging Wes not to do it. Keep the series the way it is, no more additions, Scream 3 was pushing it, a fourth will kill it dead. And what else can be done, is there a sister, Sydney never knew? Or her mother is a zombie! Who knows, who cares.

I hope this is the Final Crisis

Final Crisis is a DC Comics big event. Most of their big events have "crisis" in it, which in some ways watered down their stories. I read the first one and then, read it again. I felt that I missed something. After the second read, I noticed that I missed the entire story.

I was very under, underwhelmed with the story. But I wasn't really surprised, DC characters are kind of boring. Only a few stand out and a few of the few are relevant. For example, Superman is a very boring hero, cute, but boring.

However, Final Crisis told me nothing new, in fact it was a rehash of 52, the other Crisis series, and the mess in print, Countdown. New Gods die, evil lurks, and the Martian Manhunter dies. But the flow was too slow and yet all over the place. I just didn't care.

Maybe it's a subconscious thing because of Grant Morrison's work on the X-Men (I didn't like his writing for my favorite muties). I felt it was too much going on and no real story to hold on to. I will continue reading it, but if the story still flip flops through the DC universe, then spare me. I'll just stick to Wonder Woman, my only DC purchase.
