DC Comics reveals another new look for Wonder Woman

Lord, here is another costume change for Wonder Woman. Now, she looks like a nun fighting crime.

You know, I feel like DC Comics peeps are struggling with understanding WW. They have changed her, linked her to Superman, allowed show writers (who had no idea about her) create a pilot that never made the light of day (THANK SOMEBODY GOD)

Now this... Yes, you can tell that I am a fan.

DC Comics’ Constantine pilot sold to NBC

Warner Bros. TV and DC Comics sold a new pilot to NBC yesterday.

The supernatural and bi-sexual detective John Constantine may be coming to our TV screens. It was written and executive produced by Daniel Cerone and David S. Goyer.

The series will be called, Constantine, hopefully different than the movie version in the early 2000s. But I have to wonder, will clash with Grimm? They somewhat touch on the same subject matter.

And will Johnny be bi?

DC Comics Introduces a New Transgender Character

DC Comics hit a milestone today.

In Batgirl #19, we are introduced to the 2nd Transgender character in their mainstream series. Her name is
Alysia Yeoh and she will be bisexual as well.

Wired magazine has more of the story:
(Gail) Simone attributed the inspiration for the character to a conversation she had with fellow comic book writer Greg Rucka several years ago at the Wondercon convention, after a fan asked why there were fewer gay male superheroes than lesbian ones. Rucka, who co-created (and rebooted) Batwoman as a lesbian character, replied that it would be a real sign of change for a gay male character to appear on a comic book cover — and an even bigger step for a transgender character to do the same.
“I looked out into the audience, saw dozens of faces I knew well — LGBTQ folks, mostly — all avid comics readers and superhero fans and DC supporters,” said Simone. “And it just hit me: Why was this so impossible? Why in the world can we not do a better job of representation of not just humanity, but also our own loyal audience?”

Simone suggested the story to DC Comics Co-Publisher Dan DiDio at lunch one day, prepared to offer a passionate defense for the idea of a transgender character. ”I thought I might have to sell it, so to speak,” said Simone. “But he just paused for a moment, asked how this would affect Barbara’s story, and immediately approved it. And we went back to our excellent nachos.”
Cool beans, I know that Gail will write some awesome stories for her.

Is DC Comics trying to Kill off their Most Prominent Black Character?

What is really going on at DC Comics?

Recently artists and writers are leaving the label over creative differences. However this news about writer Joshua Hale Fialkov's reason of leaving is raising eye-brows.

According to Bleeding Cool, Joshua left DC Comics over the possibility of killing off John Stewart, the Black Green Lantern.
I have been told by a number of high profile industry sources that Fialkov was asked to change his upcoming story to one that killed off Green Lantern John Stewart, DC Comics’ most prominent black character. And that is why he quit.

Created by Dennis O’Neil and Neal Adams in 1971, he was the lead character in the Green Lantern book for much of the eighties, and was the Green Lantern in the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited animated series. Such was the popularity of that incarnation that when Ryan Reynolds was announced as the star of the Green Lantern movie, much of the online response was outraged that he was being played by a white actor.
John Stewart is widely known as the Green Lantern partly because of the successful Justice League cartoon series and recently, co-leader of the Green Lantern Corps in the comic world.

To kill him off, could send mixed messages. At this point, he is the long standing Black character in the DC universe. It would be disheartening to kill him off now. DC please reconsider this idea.

Please.

DC Comics Responds to Backlash over hiring Homophobe Orson Scott Card

Things are getting rough for DC Comics.

Once they announced that Orson Scott Card will be writing a Superman comic, gay geeks quickly responded.

From petitions to blog posts, fans let everyone know the hire was not okay. Now DC Comics responds to the backlash:
“As content creators we steadfastly support freedom of expression, however the personal views of individuals associated with DC Comics are just that — personal views — and not those of the company itself.”
They also made clear that the Superman comic will have a host of writers other than Card.

To be honest, the response was whack. They could've stated their stance on LGBT issues and characters. Just something to ensure their support of the community. I guess that was too much to ask.

Gay Geeks demand DC Comics to Drop Orson Scott Card from Superman

A new petition from All Out demands DC Comics to drop anti-gay writer Orson Scott Card from Superman.

Here's their statement:
DC Comics has just hired anti-gay writer Orson Scott Card for their new digital Adventures of Superman.
He's written publicly that he believes marriage equality would lead to the end of civilization. He's also on the board of a notorious anti-equality organization.

We need to let DC Comics know they can't support Orson Scott Card or his work to keep LGBT people as second-class citizens. They know they're accountable to their fans, so if enough of us speak out now, they'll hear us loud and clear. Sign and share!

DC Comics hires Homophobe to write Superman Comic

DC Comics just made a nasty mistake. They have hired anti-gay novelist Orson Scott Card to write two stories in Adventures of Superman. Now, maybe they are not aware about Mr. Card, but if not, here's a few things folks need to know.

  • He used to and maybe still does sit as a board member of NOM begins with a two-part story written by popular.

  • And this fool said this about gay marriage:

“Regardless of law, marriage has only one definition, and any government that attempts to change it is my mortal enemy. I will act to destroy that government and bring it down, so it can be replaced with a government that will respect and support marriage…"
This man is special and not in a good way. DC Comics should have been aware of this man and his views. Yes, you can different opinions, but when those views support discrimination that should be a blood red flag.

Not good, DC Comics.

Who would be in the Justice League movie if it came out in the 80s?

So I'm doing it again... Casting Comic Book movies in a different decade. This post is on the Justice League.

DC Comics introduces their Intersexed Superhero

DC's Shining Knight is probably the first known character to be intersexed. As you can see below, SK or Ystin comes out.

The Shining Knight has been in the DC Universe for over 40 years, Grant Morrison remixed the character in 2005, making Ystin a more interesting and complex person.

It will be exciting to see where this story goes, as well as the character development for Ystin.

Here's the quick and dirty:

The Cheetah returns in the New 52

The Cheetah is one of Wonder Woman's greatest foes and so far she's been absent from the New 52 universe.

However, all of that changes as she comes back hard! DC Comics blog reports:
This fall, JUSTICE LEAGUE #13 will introduce a legendary villain to DC COMICS-THE NEW 52: The Cheetah. The first of a two-issue chapter, the story comes to you from the creative team of writer Geoff Johns and guest artist Tony S. Daniel.

"I'm thrilled and honored to again work with Geoff Johns on this JUSTICE LEAGUE arc,” Daniel told THE SOURCE. “It's going to be a lot of fun and I can't wait to work on my favorite characters. JUSTICE LEAGUE is the first book I pull because of the big stories and the great Jim Lee art inside. I'm very happy that I get a chance to focus all my energy on making my best artwork for Geoff and the fans of JUSTICE LEAGUE."

“Tony and I will be re-introducing one of DC's iconic villains - the Cheetah - and uncovering her mysterious connection to Wonder Woman and the Justice League,” added Johns. “For me, the Cheetah is up there with Black Manta, Sinestro and Captain Cold as one of the most iconic villains in the DC Universe, and she'll become a major villainous force in 2012 and beyond. The fallout from JUSTICE LEAGUE #12 starts here as we head towards next year's TRINITY WAR.”
This looks good and I hope they really beef up the Cheetah.
